Evening everyone,

Dull, windy and now its wet here !!

Nice to see a new name ,Hello RB , love your memories,we did you to go off for the day didn't we , fishing with your jam jar on a string ,bringing the poor old Stickle Backs home , they never lasted long in the jar did they .

Hubby and son have finished the floor today ,what a day didn't realise we had so much stuff to move in there .
Maureen ,hubby had some knee pads he use to use ,he must have worn them out as he uses a large chunk of foam rubber.
I hate being in a muddle ,will be glad when i can get every thing back tomorrow.

Jane, i give my washing machine a good clean out with Soda Crystals ,just put a good handful in the drum and put it on a hot wash , i bung some in the dishwasher too.

We're off out tomorrow for lunch , taking Son, DIL and the little ones as a treat , they don't go out for meals very often and as the children have a day off school because of the strike ,we thought it would be a good chance to go.

My word the wind is getting up !!!

OMG we've just had a flood ,the washing machine has pumped water out all over hubby's newly laid floor ,don't think the pipe was connected properly !!!

I sat here and said to hubby that doesn't sound right out there, we went out and there was all the water :-S a few choice words were muttered :-S :-S :-S

Oh no Mandy, I hope the grout had gone off enough not to spoil. Sounds like a mopping up job to be done! :-S

Jane, I did my washer with that service stuff as I thought it had a smell, then checked the filter which was clean. It turned out that OH had put some clothes away that were damp and it wasn't the machine! That stuff should give it a good clean. I use soda in every wash to soften the water, but must try it in the dishwasher next time it is empty as that can get whiffy!

Maureen, you must be done in after all that ironing.........hope the soak has done you good. How is the house coming along now? Are you still at the dust and mess stage or has your son started fitting things?

! think this will be the 16,000 th post on the thread!! Howzabout that! :-D :-D

Luckily the grouting was all dry ,so no damage done , we now think its a blockage in the pipe that the water pumps into from the machine pipe ,just put some Mr Mus*le drain and plughole cleaner down there ,so we'll leave it now until the morning to give it time to work.
I now have to bowls of washing !!! one lot from the machine all wet !! and the other that was on the floor as the next load all wet from the flood !!!

My Mother God rest her was a strong woman.
I recall as a child she had 2 cleaning jobs as well as keeping house and raising 3 sons.
I recall she was a cleaner at the Rock Building Society before it became the Northern Rock.

She worked at one stage at the bottling plant of Scottish and Newcastle Breweries putting the Brown Ale bottles into the crates and the crates on to the lorry.Hard work.

At another time she had a similar job at the Domestos factory in Albion Row.

Ellen's a bit brighter flower, had two plumbers in today repairing her central heating.

You young enough to remember John Bloom?

Door to door salesman who eventually ensured every home had a washing machine.

A big advance on the poss tub.

Mandy we had exactly that happen a few months back. Ours was a block in the pipe from the outside drain. Put soda crystals down the sink washed down with hot water and it 'melted' the blockage almost immediately.

Jane

Jane Report 30 Nov 2011 10:17

Morning Everyone.
I always keep a bag of soda crystals in the main bathroom as the sink is a very slow drainer and I find it gets greased up quite easily. So each week I chuck a load of crystals down.It still drains slowly but at least I know it's not blocked.

The saga with the Arg** delivery continues :-S.I am now going to go to Wellingborough and get the last one from the store. They said a card was put through the door at 9pm on Monday.Well ,not through our door it wasn't.Then I was told it actually says out of stock for Home Delivery.Don't think we will be using this service again somehow.

It is a lovely morning.Clear Blue sky and really pleasant.Just had a sniff in the washing machine ,and it does smell better .But I think I will still get some white vinegar.
See you all later

Morning Al,

Took me a .long while to catch up with yoiur posts.

RB I do so enjoy your postings. You have a lovely way of writing. You should write all this down as a book. I am sure there are many of us oldies who would enjoy something like that.

Yes those were the days when us children could go anywhere we wanted and be safe. I was always over the river as a youngster either with a friend making camps or over another piece of ground down by the shops. I expect that is all houses now but it was between the Eastern Avenue and Roding Lane South. Houses backed onto this ground from both sides. There was a tiny stream that ran through it where we used to make camps under Elder Trees and the other side there was a house with a huge weeping willow tree that hung right over their fence and made a beautiful camp site. We could pick the long thin branches that hung down and make headresses by twineing it round itself and then putting daisys and other wild flowers in between and so making a flowery crown. We tries to make baskets out of it too but they were not successful. This is the place I used to go to with my friend Jane Quick.

The sun is shining so I think I shall put some washing in and chance it. Next job is the ironing!!

Frank Report 30 Nov 2011 12:40

Morning all,

Shattered before I start. I a good husband, I said I would put my old track suit on, and clean the windows before Christmas. Stated on the front longe, and of course the frames were dirty as waw the guttering, so washed all that as well, Done the two kitchen windows and bathroom. and two windows on the conservatory. Almost came off the steps, so thought I had better come in for a break, I will go back after a coffee.

RB Wasn't it great to spend time with your Dad. !!! I treasure the little time I spent with mine. I remember during the warr I had a small wheelbarrow, and would walk to the local bus stop (by the White Hart MEL) and put his case inb MY barrow and walk it home I could have only been 4/5 years old. After the war, DAD being a navel man all his life. He went on the tramp steamers for a fewc years. Then on the Pleasure Steamers from TOWER PIER to Ramsgate/Margate/Southend. I would be alowed to go with him on certain occassions. And how proud I was to see him at work, He was the BOSUN and when we arrived at a resort. He would throw the line to the man on the quay, who would pull in the big rope to tie the ship up. He was know by all as "SAILOR BILL"

I'm sorry folks I am rambllng on again.!!!

Glad no damage done, to the floor Mandy, He would have been a "happy chappie" if had done :-D :-D :-D

Jane a handfull of Soda Crystals is what we used in the bath as kids, When threre were FIVE of us in the same water, you needed something to kill the grease. The water was only heated in the copper on a saturday night. and as the water cooled down dad would bring up saucepans of boiling water. When washed, he would throw us over his shoulder in a big NAVY TOWEL and bring us down to Mum who would dry us off and put clean PJs on us. Oh, such happy memories.

RB you have got me started now !!! So look out for more.
