Hello RB .That's the kind of memories we need.My friends and I would go off on our bikes either on the cliffs or into the country lanes with enough food and drink to last the whole day.Or go down the Woods and make dens in the old tree trunks.rope swing over the stream. On a nice summers day it would be a day on the beach scrambling over the rocks ,investigating the Rock Pools.Oh What happy days they were.

Right ,now I'm off to the pictures.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your card Kim and I hope the pain has eased. I am waiting for some beads in the post for Friday so I hope they come in time. Otherwise it will be PLAN B.

What a nuisance Frank, let's hope they get another off to you quickly. I had forgotten about the little metallic label on the soap.

Nice to see you RB and that is a lovely memory.....the freedom we had as children!! After I moved to the city aged about 9, me and my friend used to take jam sandwiches and a drink and our fishing nets and walk along the canal right out into the countryside. We'd have our picnic and then walk back again. In those times, the canal teemed with sticklebacks, shoals of baby fish, gudgeon and crayfish. All along the banks there were water voles holes and we would often see them. We would see the gipsy ponies tethered along the banks too and always took titbits for them. We would be shattered and starving by the time we got home again. We loved exploring different places. We were such free spirits and I just can't imagine childhood today. I think I would feel too restricted!!

Mel, I don't think you can beat a hot water bottle for a painful back either. Mind you I have one of those patches on this morning that Jane has mentioned before and it is very good. Easier to go out with than a hot water bottle, although I am staying in again today as it is still painful, but improving!

Hope you enjoy the film Jane!

Remember the day Bill n me up near the pond be about 10yo, we both froze a sound never heard before, hissss hissss hissss looking at each other looking round couldn’t see anything, hissss hissss hissss getting louder, Bill looking down to see a monster on his foot, a 3 to 4 foot grass snake slithering over the toe of his welly, well our legs never moved so fast, never stopped until we was back in the village, told some of the older lads what had happened, they set of to try and catch it, but it had gone by the time they got there, never to be seen again.

I'd have hated that RB!! Before I moved to the city I lived near the Cannock Chase with all its trees and bracken everywhere. At junior school the boys not only brought jamjars of tadpoles to school, they would also bring jamjars with baby Adder snakes in too!! I hated them and 'lived' in my wellies so I didn't get bitten when making dens in the bracken. I also remember one day a boy bringing a deer's antler he had found on his way to school. The best part of living there were the bilberries that grew wild. Me and mum would go on the nearby hill to gather them and she made delicious pies with them.

RB, It sounds like you are from Yorkshire ??? going down to the beck !!!

I was born and bread on the outskirts of London, but every school holiday Easter/whitsun/summer/ autumn. My mates and I would be off every day weekends included on a bus as far as we could get without paying, or for a penny if we were caught by the conductor. Then make our way across the fields and woods, getting upto all manner of things, but never getting into trouble LOL LOL. Then make how way home before it got dark to have tea/dinner. A wash and then to bed. to start all over again the next day. If the weather was bad, we would buy a platform ticket at the local railway station, and travel on the train for a day. Marvellous how far you could travel for a penny. !!!!

Hope Jane enjoyed her film. Ros and Jan want to see that one about MM not my cup of tea

Still very strong wind out there and it's almost dark, 2.20 pm. they are promising rain later..

Anyone for Marmite. I saw that on the national news Mel. Jane would have been in heaven. !!!

Might go for a pint tonight and watch the match. Man City V Arsenal. Should be a good game.

Beef caserolle tonight, with veg and Mash. Have put a rice pudding in the bottom of the oven too.

Soft soap used to be an expression my Father used when some one was trying to seel some thing.

Donkeys years ago he some times had a soft green soap, before Swarfega.

Do you recall that advert on TV that used to begin "Have you got BO?"
I think it was for Lifebuoy

What a sales pitch :-0

Do you smell? Stink? no no ,but BO? perhaps :-S :-D :-D

Thanks to Kim for my lovely Christmas card which arrived late morning.

Ann you should get one of the wheat filled hotwater thingies. You only have to pop them in the micro for a minuet. I love mine.

oooh! Adders. On a warm summer's day we often came upon them along the Cliff Path.Gave me the willie's :-S :-S.

What a rotten afternoon.I couldn't believe how dark it was when we came out from the cinema. The film was actually better than I was expecting and I quite enjoyed it.A bit on the slow side though. What a sad person Marilyn Monroe was.She just wanted people to love her.

The inflatable Zimmer Frame has arrived ! It says ideal for the decrepit and all washed up.I can't wait to see my Sister's face .She will probably wallop me with it :-D :-D

A Day with my Dad.

The day would start at 5 am, on dads cross bars to Smiths yard, dad would clock in, then check out the lorry, walk round a give each tyre a good kick, the lorry seemed so big to me, as I was only small lad then, all aboard, often on my side used to be 2 extra bags of tates, (ummm payment for breakfast and dinner) off we set, with a full load on top speed about 30 mph, to think 100 odd miles to Stockport it was a full days trip, not long before we arrived at Lincoln, milk men doing there rounds and a few folk going to work, up the high street turn left at the Stone Bow and out into the country side on A57 to Sheffield Via Gainsborough & Worksop, (no M1 at Sheffield yet) in to Sheffield full of life by now, one thing stands out in my memory is that around this area so many folk on red & white bicycles think steel or mine workers, two ways to go now, stay on the A57 over the Snake pass or turn off onto Woodhead pass, Woodhead always won, it was the at the Woodhead café that the first bag of tates would disappear, breakfast was a big fry up, never forget the ladies used to love me when I was with dad, men used to a pint mug of tea to wash down there meal, me a normal size mug, one of them could see I wanted to be like me dad, so bought me a pint mug, it was as big as me head, but I felt so good to be drinking out of the same size as all the other men. Back in the cab and over the Pennines, this was a site not many young kids from the flat fen of Lincolnshire saw, just so amazing, at some parts we’d be going so slow sure I could walk faster, it was giant mountain range to me, so much to take in, each time you see something different, the great water reservoirs the stone walls miles upon miles of them, sheep with horns that seemed to wonder wild, the purple heather, the hill sides cover with fir trees, the train line that disappeared into a mountain side and the snow in winter never never seen so much, over the top often covered with low cloud, sail down to Glossop meet up with the A57 again here, into Stockport to the factory, this may seem strange in this day and age, but me dad warned me that I would see some men that was totally black and not to stare at them, cos in the outback of Lincolnshire at this time we had no black men, they were great, always had a smile on there faces and would always bring me a few fresh bays of crisp, one off them showed me around the factory, from the tates been off loaded to the packets been packed into the boxes, unloaded back on the road before lunch time, usually return the way we came, but now and then we go back via Chesterfield so I could see the crooked spire, another café for lunch, sausage and mash or toad in hole breakfast was better, then we’d park up for a hour, dad nods off I go on walk about,

I think I will add one to my xmas wish list Mel!

I'm glad the film was not too bad then Jane. Hmmm, was the zimmer from a company that sells other 'inflatable' things?? At least you will be able to move faster than your sister if she goes to wallop you!!

Flippin heck! It is hammering it down with rain now and a big rumble of thunder!! Dark already too. :-S

That would have been a great trip for a young lad RB, especially high up in a lorry!! I sometimes go over those passes with OH when he goes to football matches, smashing scenery like you say. I bet you looked forward to the grub too, but I should think there were a few 'comfort' stops needed after those big mugs of tea!! lol Did the lorry ever get stuck in the snow?

My .... you've all been busy chatting away the last few days.

There seems to be some conspiracy to stop me painting christmas cards, spent Friday with daughter and Harry, she had a drs. appointment and then an hour with her personal trainer so me and Harry took ourselves off round a little duck pond, it was freezing but he didn't seem to mind, then spent an hour at the gym waiting for mum. Never mind, I thought, I can get on with them Saturday but son phoned and I was wanted at the house. It is just about finished, must remember next time I'm there to take some photos. That reminds me Mandy, doesn't your OH have those trousers with the slots in the knees that you put knee pads in, I only know about that because son had them on, I could have done with them too.

Ann your jewellery is good enough to sell, you should set up a litle stall in the market or boot sale next summer. How's your back?

I remember that horrible pink toothpaste in the little round tin, it always reminded me of the dentist, the last thing I wanted to be reminded of, as the water you rinsed your mouth out with was pink and it tasted the same.

I bet Maureen is enjoying her soak now :-D That's a long time ironing :-S :-S
We had one heck of a downpour here earlier too Ann,we haven't had one like that for so long.

RB how old were you when you did those trips with your Dad?I bet you felt so grown up with your pint mug :-D That was a lovely description .I'm sure you have more tales you can tell us about.

I have been trying to hunt out a foul smell in the garage.I thought it might have been the stalk of sprouts that have been there for a while,so moved them outdoors earlier.Nope it wasn't them.I have now discovered it is coming from the drum of the washing machine :-S :-S.I stuck my nose in and it made me feel quite sick. It's just like old cabbage.I did put some special stuff in last week and did an empty HOT wash as there was slimy bits stuck on the washing.I've now put some more of this cleansing thing in and have it on yet another boil wash.I hope it works this time.If not I don't know what else to do. :-|

JANE DO EMPTY WASH WITH ''COLD' WATER AND 3 OR 4 CUPS VINEGAR

Jane

Jane Report 29 Nov 2011 18:08

'COLD' water Shirl? I thought if it was a hot one it would 'melt' some of the gunk.
White or brown vinegar?I'm willing to try anything as the pong is just so awful.
