I cant be bovered with FB.....I dont mind the chat etc but the tech stuff is silly.....even mu boys think its strange

We DESPERATELY need that new board for those looking for 'living people' don't we ???

All the posts over the past few days have been for people looking for their birth mothers and fathers, half siblings etc. !!!!

I really do wish them luck and hope they find what they are looking for but that is not what this board is really all about!

I am always wary of giving help looking for living people as you never know who you are really helping - they may be 'abusive' or violent parents, husbands or wives, or other persons with 'bad intent' ??

Some people 'need' to remain hidden and it worries me how eager some on here can be to reveal information.

I just want to help people with their genealogical research to go back through generations and seek out their history.

It does worry me that some people do not give a second thought to the privacy and security of the person being sought. Like you say there is no way of knowing who is looking for whom. From what has been said on fb I don't think GR are much into regulating the board themselves but expect members to report an abuse if something arises.

They would be far better having that board closed so it does not show up in search engine searches and only subsciption members can view. Hidden if you like from non paying members. They intend that no one will be able to respond to a post but send a private message instead. It has been pointed out that this could result in many sending the same information.

What do GR care if loads of people send the same info? When the mother.father or child is found what will the poster do??

But if they do it right then it will be a great asset and I really do not believe it should be up to other members who have also paid subs to access the site to monitor this type of board for sensitive matters. It's a great big cop out by GR. They should shoulder the responsibility especially where living people are concerned.

I also think they should have an affilliation with agencies like Norcap who can act as mediators especially in cases of adoption, or contact of long lost relatives. If the requester is not willing to go through mediation then their search may not be as truthful as they would have us believe.

GR said something today saying it was ok to post recent bmd's but I can't find it now was it on Rosies thread?

I think they should make it clear on here what you can and cannot post rather than a short reply on FB which then gets lost or deleted

Very good idea Toots....But GR have stated categorically that they are not getting moderators in....

Some one posted on their page that they (GR)had found their dad and a sibling for them.....I was soooooo tempted to ask the poster if they meant GR had actually done it or wether they had posted on the boards and a helper had actually helped find them.....But thought better of it...Same as when the 15 yr old posted all the details of her mothers search for her dad.

She said that her mother had seen her dad when she was 16 and all I could think was that it was rather obvious to me that he did not want to stay in touch if he had seen her at that age...

Going to bed now ...Counting the days till I feel more Homo Sapien hopefully

I saw that Jax just before I went back to work.

I posted that I disagreed with them because although the indexes can be found only certificates for the over 50's can be obtained without a full date of birth but under 50's a full date of birth as well as the reference is required.

I also asked them to consider if someone was looking for themselves would they be happy having all their personal life blasted over the internet for all and sundry to see without their knowledge or consent. This basic consideration should be given to all living people being sought and I thought the board should be closed and agree with Rosie that perhaps an additional subscription should be paid to access it.

Unfortunately Rosie deleted before I had chance to see if they replied.

I don't know why because it has been an exhausting week with grand-children.

Have had grandson today and grand-daughter is coming tomorrow and staying overnight !!!

I've only got my grandkids on Thursday for tea....so a bit of a break really.



Off with OH to see his Parkinson's nurse tomorrow. Will be glad when it is over.....sigh. Mind you, we can't complain and are grateful for each day.

physio tried needling .................. this is not acupuncture, he inserts an acupuncture-type needle and wiggles it around, then removes it


he knows he's had some effect if the client yelps
