I think only a sadist would give needling, and only a masochist would willingly submit to it!

but as it can work, then .........................................

Mind you, he only gets a reaction from me about half the time ................... when I don't react with pain, then we don't try it again for months

What it is, is dealing with pain caused by a knot in the muscles, which is caused by a spasming of the muscle tissue which doesn't then relax.

He inserts the needle hopefully into the centre of the knot. That makes the muscle spasm even more, but it then relaxes as it should do normaly, so the "knot" becomes smaller or disappears.

The pain is caused by the extra spasming.

But the needle doesn't always go into the centre of the knot, OR the pain is not actually caused by a spasmed muscle.

Some people almost scream with the pain ................. I've heard them do it from another treatment room!

I just grunt and grimace!

I had some needles in my hand a couple of months ago to test for carpol tunnel syndrome with electric shocks...that was painfull.

I would put up with it if it helped though...I would grunt and grimace too

Nice thing, for me at least, is that it doesn't hurt if it is not going to help

I had carpal tunnel many years ago .............. it was 1988, and I came down with this agonizing pain every itme I tried to move my hand 3 days before we were to leave on a 6 week camping trip up to Alaska on the Alaska Highway, and back.

In those days, we used a tent, and preferred "wild" campsites with few amenities ......... usually had pit toilets, cooked on a camp stove placed on the picnic table, etc.

I went to the doc of course, got told I had the "classic text book" symptoms, and was given these extremely strong painkillers, which had possible incredible side effects, including bleeding ulcers.

Normally, they want to keep you around so they can keep watch ...... but we went camping on condition that I kept close watch for bleeding

ever tried to do that in a pit toilet????

Impossible!

Fortunately I was lucky to escape that side effect.

I also escaped having to do any of the cooking OR helping OH pitch the tent and take it down. Daughter learnt a bit sooner than she intended how to cook on the camp stove, and how to help Dad!

I had to wear a brace on my wrist, and it was almost impossible to do anything with my right hand.

Gawd, it was painful though!

Well I hav'nt got it and I cannot understand why they thought I had really...although it can be treated more than I can say for this.

Not being able to use your right hand is a pain I must say...I hav'nt cooked for well over a year now...I do miss it and would be nice to choose what we have for dinner sometimes

At the moment it would be nice to have anything for dinner lol

I have hardly seen HID for the last couple of days keeps getting sent out for appointments...although not had any luck so far...early days

time for bed night sylv x

Sylvs......you want sympafy? Well don't come on here then............ :)

Oooh Renes....you reminded me of one of the Carry On films where the doc (prob Dirk Bogarde) approaches a young female patient with his stethoscope at the ready..........

"big breaths" he orders........

to which she replies.....

"Yeth, an I'm only thixteen".

Classic.

I wonder why I've never seen any tall dark handsome doctors whenever I've been in the hospital???
