I go to Sheffield now and then for work, but just the city centre. That has changed such a lot over the past few years, especially the station area - love the steel and water.

Gee

Gee Report 29 Apr 2011 18:40

Your so right AM.....it's all had a face lift and the station is still changing with more improvements to the surrounding area

Sheffield used to be a dump, a steel city but thats all changed, for the best and for the worse in some ways

Jonesey Report 29 Apr 2011 19:21

"Sheffield used to be a dump" How very dare you. My father who was born there and would have been mortified to hear anyone describe it as such.

I must confess however that it was not the prettiest of places. I remember that as you approached Sheffield during the 1950's and looked down towards the city centre all that you could see was a dense cloud of yellow sulphurous smoke. When you reached the centre every building was black but it was honest muck built up over many years of steel production.

Gee Report 29 Apr 2011 19:44

Jonesey....I was, no where near born in the 50's...cheeky. I love Sheffield, so friendley

OK....just made a couple of pasta bake's and as I was being lazy today, I bought ready grated Cathedral City cheese

Grated...their afin a laugh....it was bits, all different bits, shapes, sizes, you name it.....mis shapes

Looked to me like the off shots of the blocks they cut....

Grrrrrr...I may have to complain

Dea

Dea Report 29 Apr 2011 19:59

Serves you right for being SO lazy Ginns - You don't buy 'ready grated' when you can grate the real stuff in minutes for half the price !!!

Gee

Gee Report 29 Apr 2011 20:06

I also have aother reason why I dont grate....my nails!

They are real nails and I dont mind losing a bit, but I dare say my guests would ;)

Gee

Dea

Dea Report 29 Apr 2011 20:11

You need the right 'technique' Gins - My grand-daughter says " up and down, up and down - very gently with fingers flat against the cheese" - No nails will be lost using this method Ginns !!

All I remember about the shopping centre was that it was underground and there was a open air bit in the middle which above surface was a roundabout I think.

Didn't sleep in the chair last night, slept sitting up in bed. Got about 2 hours in total I think!

Perhaps I should have stayed up and watched the wedding?!

Sheffield and Port Talbot.......

Both now a little better, but I rather suspect Sheffield wins the contest as Port Talbot still smells of sulphur at times ........
