Had quite a shock this evening......got a phone call from my poorly friend!! She sounded so normal but then asked me if I knew her dad had died.................oh sugar dumplings!!!

Been out and voted in our latest Federal Election ...... the 3rd one since 2006!


Pouring with rain, and there weren't many voters in the Polling Station. Well it was only about 2 pm


Polls close here in BC at 7pm, which is about an hour later than anywhere else in the country ................. so we can start to hear how polling has gone across the country


It really is very difficult when there are different time zones acoss the country .......... we have 5 different times zones, covering 4½ hours! Newfoundland and Labrador are 4½ hours ahead of BC.

In recent elections, Elections Canada has started trying to stagger opening and closing times for elections so there is not such a wide gap between the end in Newfoundland and that in BC.

ah well, we should know by about 8 or 9 pm this evening what sort of government we will have ........ that's only 4 or 5 hours from now.

It's been a minority government since 2006. This is the 3rd election since then

He's hoping for a majority so he can "get on with the plans for the country"


The only thing that's stopped us being in as bad straits as you are has been the fact that there are 3 other parties, who, combined, have more votes.


Those parties combined just over a month ago to defeat the goverment on a "contempt of parliament" motion ........ the first time that has EVER happened in a Commonwealth country.



keeping everything crossed that it stays a minority government ....... 'cos unfortunately I don't see any of the other parties being on the upsurge enough to take over.


And, of course, we do have the added "quirk" that one of the 3 opposition parties only runs candidates in Quebec ............... and its basic platform is secession from Canada!

Only in Canada, you say?!!

Election results


Majority Conservative government .... estimated 167 seats

Loyal Opposition Party ............. NDP (New Democratic Party, our closest to Labour), with 102 seats. The largest number of seats they have EVER had, and the first itme they've been the official Opposition.

Reduced to 3rd party status .............. the Liberals, with about 34 seats. Never ever been that low before


Reduced to almost oblivion ............ the Bloc Quebecois, with just 4 seats. BQ is only in Quebec, is a separatist party, and was decimated by the NDP.


New to Parliament ......... the Green party elected one person for the first time ever.


Leaders of BQ and Liberals both lost their seats, and have resigned, effective as soon as possible.



as for my riding ..... the Conservative won ................ almost never having appeared in public during the 5 weeks of the election




4 years before we have another Federal election, and any hope of getting them out!

You have lost me on the 'pollyticks' thingy !! - Does the result mean you are happy or sad??

Anyway, If you are going to be on your own for 3 days make sure you take things easy and have a good rest.

Check that you have all the things in that you need - choccies, lemon meringues, latte etc. so you do not have to go out if you don't feel like it !!

If you want to stay in your 'jimmy jams' all day, no-one will know so ENJOY.............

Yes, I will do breakfast tomorrow so don't give that another thought !!

it's likely that the Canada I know will not be the same Canada at the end of the 4 year term.

that's if they do all they said they wanted to do



most of the safety networks will have gone, pensions possibly decimated, etc
