Last time she blocked sylvia and myself she said we had personality problems to her friends on anc*stry page :-D
She has blocked us twice but I noticed the other day she has unblocked us again....weird

Hmmmm What's in a name?

We have Willy Nilly doing the reporting (as per Grace's post) :-(

Then we have Dilly and her tizzy fit (as per Ja...x's post) :-0

Of course anyone can recognise that Jax's cat is sitting on her trews... you just need to zoom in... But what is the black bit above the cat's head?

JaneyCanuck Report 6 Jun 2011 05:07

Has the dallyer actually taken that find I made for her (got deleted from the discussion session of the fb page when that particular me got banned from there for being bullied) and claimed it as her own??

I don't see her posting at fb, and I'm not reading through an account she's blocked, to my knowledge ... if it's at the fluffy bunny page, I ain't wading through that treacle ...

Ah righty oh, I know who you mean now. There were a couple of people on the FB page that may have fitted that description,

Lol Persie, I didn't realise how old Willy Nilly makes me sound! I promise I am under 100, young enough to know just enough about didgital technology to get throuroughly confused, and old enough to know that everything comes back around in fashion if you wait long enough!...But not sure what sitting on her trews means?

Ta Janey, I had read that suggestion thread, hopefully whoever the people are they'll get a bit of a suprise and will be a bit reluctant to go on reporting away.

Well it's never dull is it! :-)

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 6 Jun 2011 05:23

I thought that was what she might do!

ah well, I suppose when you are a geneticist / biochemist / researcher / helper of the disabled / grower of limes and lemons, and other "tropical" fruits in Liverpool

you don't have time to do the ancestral searches, much as you would like to do

:-D :-D

Ah trousers....see I would never have worked that one out!

Seeing as you lot are very intelligent, can any of you explain the following for me?

In 1907 I have a chap born in Coatbridge, Lanark. On the certificate his father is noted as a Blacksmith.

By 1933, the family is hown on this chap's marriage certificate as residing in the Manse of Craig, Montrose and his father now has an occupation of a Church Officer.

So...my first question, what would a church officer do in his job or role, and secondly is it a strange jump in occupation from Blacksmith to Church Officer?

Everytime I google the Manse of Craig, the internet gives me a link to a minerals site..not quite the same thing!

Would it not be too cold in Liverpool for her to grow any of those things well Sylvia? I thought they needed lots of sunshine

jax

jax Report 6 Jun 2011 06:12

I would say most of the things she says she grows would not grow in this country...but she could prove me wrong I am no gardener

She has mentioned nut trees....I have kentish cob nuts in my garden so have my parents and they are grown mainly in the south of England but maybe up north? I have only been up north twice so I dont know HID had never heard of them before being a northener

Cant help on scotland but he could of changed his occupation? 1981/91 census I was a Bank clerk 2001 Publican landlady 2011 not sure what I was put down as but too young to be retired but not working anymore

Grace

I was born near Manchester, and lived in Liverpool for about half the year for 5 years (uni)

....... she must have a garden in a very select area with the most incredible micro-climate to grow what she says she grows! She was picking and eating asparagus by the end of April, wasn't it?

Either that, or climate change has really warmed up!

Re your man ........................ he was probably Church Officer of the Scottish Presbyterian church. That could have been an elected position (rather like the Church Warden), or it might have carried a small salary.

He would have been in his 50s or so by then wouldn't he?

at least, that is what I would think

Hi Sylvia & jax, yes it looks as though from his sister's weddingcertificate that they were living at the manse but the father's occupation is shown as a Railwayman.

Maybe he was a Church officer on the side, yes he would have been late 60's by then. So your theory is most likely correct.

It just struck me as a complete change of occupation, which of course people do, it just seemed such a change! LOL one of those mysteries I guess..

Yes I thought you'd need the heat..we have plenty of that and can grow oranges and lemons and limes (well other people can, I can only seem to get lemons to grow) and olives seem to have taken off here.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 6 Jun 2011 07:02

I have a friend who grows lemons on Vancouver Island. Her area is a little warmer than here, about 1 or 2C

BUT the lemon shrubs are usually kept in the greenhouse or conservatory area ........ they're only outside in the very warmest part of the summer.

we usually reckon that our climate here is about 5C warmer than the UK in summer, and about 5C colder in winter.

Most of the churches I know have elected officers ....... church warden, vicar's warden, envelope secretary, etc in the Anglican church; the Baptists have Deacons who can take services. Anglicans have lay readers who I think are not elected but appointed by the Vicar. None are paid.

Good morning all......cor you lot can't half talk at night - kept me awake with all that chatting! :-D

Hello Ruth - from a few pages back - welcome to the madhouse. We have a problem though Ruth. The dog lovers on this thread are gradually being taken over by the cat lovers..........sob

Lemons growing in Liverpool?? Well, I lived there for many years and don't remember any such thing in public areas anyway. Maybe the person in question worked at the Palm House in Sevvy Park ;-)

Church Officer in Scotland is a verger I think. He would take care of some of the practical things in and around the church. I can't see he would be living in the manse permanently unless a) he was visiting at the time of the census or b) the manse had an annexe which was rented which can happen.

Why not google Craig church and see what the site offers? Just a thought.

RR's? ....pain in the proverbials.

FB? ..... haven't been there as yet this morning.

Lovely breakfast Sylvs....looks like I have beaten Dea to the table.

Hoping to buy new curtains today....going to look anyway.
