Morning all....nice to see a new face at breakfast....Hi Joy! Actually, you're lucky to get anything at all after Dea has hoovered her way around the table.

Thanks Sylvs......Dea missed the fresh toast you put out.......2 slices..yum.

I did French for a while but can't say it grabbed me.....I prefer double Dutch. :-D

Beautiful day here so, what shall we do, where shall we go?

The seaside?
A stately home?
A country park?

No?......wait.....OH has come up with a plan...........(bated breath)

Ah. Right. Okay.

The council tip to get rid of some rubbish.

Moving house whilst the kids are out of the country sounds a damn good idea to me. Wish I'd have thought of that when my kids were away,

Actually Gin you have reminded me about something. Some years ago one of my friends John did something similar. Whilst his wife was in New Zealand for 3 months visiting her mother and brother who had both gone to live there my mate sold their house and bought another. It was well before the days of email so he had sent her a letter telling her where he had moved to. She never got the letter so when she arrived back at what she thought was her home she found strangers living there. Fortunately John had told then where he was moving to so she did eventually find him.

What a strange thing to do Jonesey !

Did she have any idea that he was going to do that?

Did she like the new house?:-D

"No 2 son orf on hols to Crete on Wednesday morning "

Wonder if he will bump into Bezzie and her friend while there Gins? They went this morning for 10 days..

I used to love going too the tip/dump but its all changed now and the totter or the council get first pickings and you are not allowed to search through stuff as you used to and now you have to PAY to take anything you want except wood which you can have to use as kindling which is no good to us as we have now "gone gas"....
Had some lovely finds from the dump and skips over the years....
Flamin recycling.... :-S

When my OH used to fix our cars (couldn't afford the mechanic's charges in them days) we would go to a place called Pick a Part... Cost a dollar each to get in and they let you have things really cheap and some of the little but important things for free. Then at work he would say I took the wife out on the weekend.

We were at a wedding and my father had had a bit too much to drink and the band which were rather noisey were near our table of all us cousins etc. My father spent sometime up with the band telling them to be quieter etc and whilst he was up there we all moved to another table way down the other end of the room. Took him awhile.....

It was SO lovely at the tip - can't think why I don't go more often!!

It's very well regulated with staff on hand to help you unload your car etc.

Poor OH was quite mortified when, as he and I were bottoms up in the boot struggling to get a heavy tree stump out, a cheery voice said 'Here, let me' and a woman member of staff, leant in and picked the whole thing up as though it were a baby! His pride is quite dented and I am having to hammer that dent out.... :-D

Dea,

Belatedly answering your query.

Yes, my friend and his wife had decided to put their house on the market before she left for her trip to New Zealand. Whilst she was aware that the house might be sold she did not expect matters to be concluded in the time that she was away.

The full story of why she made the trip is also quite unusual. Her brothers first wife had unfortunately drowned whilst they were living in Nigeria. He had decided to see a bit more of the world before trying to settle down again and whilst in New Zealand he met and married a New Zealand girl. His invited his mother, a widow, to visit them and meet her new daughter in law for the first time. The mother travelled to NZ and within the space of only a few days whilst there she had met and decided to marry a New Zealand man and to remain in NZ. My friends wife was making her trip to see her mother and her brother plus to meet her sister in law and her mother's new husband for the first time.

You wont want one of the staff from our tip helping you.
We watched him one day "helping"a woman get some polystyrene and large cardboard boxes out from her car.
Trouble is he has only one arm/hand that works and hes deaf...Anyway he grabbed a hold on it with one hand and started yanking...The cardboard made a split in the roof fabric and the polystyrene went into those tiny little balls and sort of "exploded"all over the poor womans car....
If we see him coming we always thank him for the offer of help, and I stand in front of him so he can see me speaking, but we really can manage on our own if he just shows us which skip for it.... :-D

It's a wonder your friend's wife eventually returned to him by the sound of it :-D

Dea,

I have never been to NZ but it does seem to hold an special attraction for some people. Some years ago a chap, Terry, that I knew had been in the merchant navy. He made regular trips between San Francisco and Auckland. One of his former shipmates married and settled down to live in Auckland. Terry used to visit with him when there. Terry had told his brother what a nice place it was and his brother decided to move there. He in turn told other members of his family how good it was and in due course every member of Terry's family except Terry ended up living there whilst Terry remained in England. Terry did go to visit them occasionally but always came back to the Midlands.
