OOOhh - I LOVE toad in the hole!

I has been zapped I think.

Was supposed to be a relatively quiet and orderly day........but I've ne'er stopped (as they say round here).

Just got in and am glad to be home.... :-D

Went out this morning with OH to buy a new bulb for the fridge. Came home with a new toaster and matching kettle! It's all in lieu of a voucher OH was given at Easter and hasn't yet spent. Same colour as this <3

No messaging done....either.....better extract the proverbial.

Interesting "accident" here yesterday (or rather started Monday night)

Huge transmission tower supporting major electric lines fell into the Fraser River

It stopped all traffic on the river, all traffic across a major bridge, all traffic on 3 major highways into Vancouver, and of course many smaller roads. As well as cutting power to about 30,000 homes

Then the next tower inland also fell down because of the stress put on it

Yesterday morning's rush hour was horrendous!

The reason?

The Fraser River is very full, because of snow melt waters coming from the interior and continuing high tides ...... and has been for several weeks.

This spring's "freshet" has lasted weeks longer than usual

and theswirling water eroded the bank underneath the tower.

PLUS they are also builidng a new bridge very close to where this tower fell ............... and one does wonder whether that might not have changed currents somewhat????

I have the same problem Ja....x

I dont even know how to switch it on but, fortunately, my grandchildren do !!

6 year old knows how to get to 724 ?? - Her 'big girl programes', and 2 year old knows how to get to 'Cbeebies' (or something similar ??)

They put me to shame !

Well I thought he knew what he was doing Dea :-)

Obviously not...I have to push the big sky button every night because it always wants to go onto standby after midnight...but he has gone to bed by then

Yes Dea, RED. My kitchen is black and white and I have red extras - fruit bowl, vase, teapot etc. Very attractive it is too.

Ja...x and Dea, if ever in doubt with anything technical, ask an 11 year old to sort it for you. Job done! :-D

Quite a major prob in Vancouver then Sylvs! Sounds pretty horrendous for those affected.

Yep, the site is much better tonight...I gave up last night as I didn't have the patience to wait for the pages to load.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 6 Jul 2011 20:44

Hi

I like the sound of your kitchen C!

I used to ask a 5 year old to open my "child proof" drug bottles and vials :-D

Yep ........ it is a real problem.

The highways and roads are now clear ...... the elcectricity people cut the transmission wires so they could get it done quickly (having made sure they were not "live" :-) ). And people have their power back on

BUT they now have to figure out how to replace the tower AND the lines

and work out whether any more towers along the river banks might also be in danger of the foundations being washed away!

This has in fact been a horrendous year for floods and flood-related problems all over western Canada from Manitoba west, and in Quebec. And it shows no sign of ending.

There are still large snow packs up in the mountains because we had so much snow over the winter, and a late cold spring.
