Ten years ago it looked quite nice as she had spent a few bob on a respray and I think it worked briefly.

HID said there are new rules about keeping old cars off the road...so maybe that is why? I know she does'nt have to pay for tax because of its age but she would need insurance and a mot before getting it.

Or maybe she just had enough as there was no way she was ever going to do anything with it now, as she spends all her free time with her horse

did she manage to sell it?

jax Report 5 Dec 2011 02:36

It went to a new owner...I would imagine she got something for it, there are a lot of wierd collectors of these things :-D

I went out in it once frightened the life out of me as it did'nt have seat belts, and it smelled like an old car. She has lived in her house about 19 years (not the sort of area I would choose) and I am sure she had it when she moved there. Now she just has to get rid of her big motorbike which also has not worked for years thats probably classic now, it was'nt new when she bought it about 13 years ago

Good morning Sylvia!

I need that lovely breakfast to cheer me up now - I have just been reading the posts and Ginny says she is 'leaving us' !!! :-(

I am sure she won't as she would miss us too much !!! ;-)

I DO understand her reasoning though, I have hardly had a good search to 'get my teeth into' for months and months! - The boards have changed so much and they are not nearly so busy :-( :-(

Gracie - DO take care of yourself, you are doing too much too soon ! - Now that the wedding and the party are over you really must take it slowly and rest or you will not be able to enjoy Christmas with your little girl!

See you all later,

Dea Xxx

Morning all. Thanks for the breakfast Sylvs.......I just need to nudge Dea up a bit as I think she is eating enough for both of us :-D

Hi Grace - sounds like you had a great if somewhat tiring time. Hope you get a picture up soon - and don't go overdoing things or you will end up in a worse state. :-)

Ja...x, I've always had the latest thing from GR on my FB home page I think. What HAS altered for me is that my friends are now on the right hand side in Christian name alphabetical order......anyone else got that?

I wonder why the boards have slowed down so much? I don't mean any of the technical difficulties we have had, just the sheer lack of queries.

Maybe either people are losing interest in research or the Community boards aren't well advertised enough....... :-S

Have to admit, I didn't look at the boards when I first joined as I was too busy building my tree. Didn't realise what an asset they were.

Maybe we should have a word with Phil to get the Home Page designers to make more of a feature of the boards????????

Wet, windy but no snow.......... :-D :-D :-D

I've just checked and yes, I sent a message to Charlotte on 16.11. It was opened but I have received no response. Have just sent another note to her.

Gin,

I can clearly see the cause of your frustration but I am not so sure that leaving the site at this stage would be the right thing to do.

Like yourself and I am sure many others, I enjoy getting my teeth stuck into trying to help others find answers to their genealogical questions. There is no denying that the number of opportunities to do that are greatly reduced from what there used to be. The decline in board activity really seems to go back to the time when GR "Amalgamated" some of the boards and introduced the new "Find Living Relatives" board. I'm sure that GR did what they did with the best of intentions but being a fully paid up member of the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" party, I don't believe that their action was necessary, or as things have turned out, beneficial to the site.

Similarly I believe that a lot of the current problems in using the site, E.G. Speed of the site, Constant error messages ect, are the result of site "Improvements" that frankly were not thoroughly tested prior to release and were probably not necessary in the first place. Several of these "Improvements" have contributed to the instability of the site which in turn has led to frustration amongst the regular site users and has also no doubt put some of them and newer members off posting.

It appears to be a common problem that many sites, not just GR, suffer when the sites "Programmers" or "Developers" feel the need to constantly tinker. They probably do it to justify their existence or simply to try to stay in employment. Let's face it, if someone successfully brought an everlasting light bulb to market then there would be no need to produce any other type.

The heartening news is that GR via Phil has I believe announced a moratorium stating that there will be no further "Improvements" until the sites basic problems have been resolved. If that is true then maybe we can look forward to a more stable site in the not too distant future. Perhaps that in itself will lead to more board use where only 5% instead of 50% of the posts are critical of the sites operation.

We can but hope.

Gee Report 5 Dec 2011 18:32

Glad you are here Dea.....seems everyone else is out 'partying' :-D

Hmm I have a NOT frost free freezer but it was so nice I thought I would put up with having to get the hair dryer on it every so often

The fridge still thinks its a freezer and likes to suprise you now and again by giving you nice frozen salad when you get home from work :-|

I havent been able to find a fridge/freezer that I like (that will fit!) so Im still with the one thats got health problems

If someone is in its OK caus the fridge can be switched off and the freezer left on....its when none of us are in that the naughty thing decides to 'chill' out....far too much
