Naughty Cynths,

You are meant to 'spread happiness'........................

She did not used to be always 'grouchy'... O.K. then, she packed a 'mean slap' but that is probably just a defence mechanism - she might just be a bit of a 'softy' in the middle ???

Oh yeah.....she's a 'softy in the middle' deffo. Seen the sideways view??

Countered that right hook with a stunning blow to the solar plexus ......

Dea

Dea Report 2 Apr 2011 20:41

OOOhh Cynths - that is her 'poorly area' and would be too 'croowell' !!

Aim it a bit higher - The chin would be 'fair game' - just under the big bruise where she slapped herself !!

Dea x

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 2 Apr 2011 20:46

But Dea......which chin would I choose?

Dea

Dea Report 2 Apr 2011 20:50

The top one Cynth - that's the one with the jaw bone in it !!

BUT.............. have you noticed the quiet???

You must have knocked her out with your first blow..........don't inflict any more!!!

Can someone please throw a bucket of water over Fans to revive her as I have to go to bed now???

Fans!!!!

Hope you feel better in the morning.

Thanks for looking though Robert

we didn't suffer too much when we were in the early years of our marriage.

Mind you ........ things are a bit different over here.

We were in a furnished apartment in Texas, and had been given lots of china and glass, casseroles, cutlery, etc as Christmas presents. Everyone knew we were leaving the UK 3 days after the wedding. That meant we had everything to survive for one year, apart from some pots and pans, and bed linen (only given 1 set of sheets!).

OH's father said that he would have helped us furnish a room in a house if we had stayed in the UK, so he gave us a cheque, which we invested until we knew where we were going to be. We eventually cashed that in after we got to Vancouver

We moved up to Canada in August 1968, and rented an unfurnished apartment ........... but here that means it came fully carpeted, with curtains on the windows, and all appliances

We gradually bought our own furniture, first buying second hand and / or quite cheap essentials, then furnishing our bedroom with the money f-i-l had given us . We still use the bed, 2 chests of drawers, coffee table and 2 lamps that we bought courtesy of f-i-l.

We slept on air mattresses with sleeping bags for the first week, then we used a credit card to buy a hide-away settee that we slept on for about another 4 months, until we got the money from the UK to buy the bed. The apartment manager lent us some pool side plastic chairs and a coffee table for the living room. We bought a second-hand dining table and 6 chairs, painted a mushroom colour .....we stripped and stained it.

We bought a house after 4 years ................ that came with carpets but most unusually for here, no kitchen appliances.

We had enough money left to buy one item .............. either fridge or stove. Friends were helping us move, so we bought the fridge. For a month, I cooked on a 2- burner camp stove placed on a board over the sink, with the window above it wide open. Then we could scrape together enough money from our 2 salaries to buy a stove.

A friend lent us a carpet for the bedroom, another friend's marriage had just broken up and his wife had gone back to the UK ........ so he sold us another carpet and some curtains. Those are still in use down in the basement!

However, we never bought each other needed household equipment as gifts ................. the birthday present might be very inexpensive but it was always personal.

We are still using the 12 place dinner service we got as a wedding present, with the addition of 6 new dinner plates that I found in an "old china" shop 2 years ago ............. that set has been used every day since September 1967, when it arrived in Texas. One dinner plate, one sugar bowl, and 2 egg cups are the only things that have been broken. I must admit the pattern has almost worn off about 8 of the dinner plates ................. which is why I bought those 6!

where we did get our bonding was in the fact that we left the UK only 3 days after our wedding. OH had been in Texas since the February and had made some friends ............... but it was basically us two and whoever we might meet. Same thing happened when we moved up here ...... us two and whoever we might meet. OH's sister emigrated to Canada in1970 .......... but the job she got was 800 km away. She'd come down to Vancovuer during every term break, until she got married!

We had only ourselves to lean on ...... but we could also start our own traditions for major holidays etc.

I think we were quite lucky really, we bought our house 100% mortgage on a whim really then had to get married... Bank based mortgage on my salary only as they did back then and it was fixed at 5%.

Both ex and myself also worked in a pub for 4 sessions a week and the landlord paid well we did that for almost 10 years so we never really went without.

When the mortgage rate reached its high in the mid to late 80s we did'nt suffer where as others like s.i.l almost had thier house reposessed.

We also did'nt have kids for the first 9 years that helps too

Bacon ,egg and chips.
Sausage egg and chips
Sausage beans and chips
bacon,spagetthi and chips.

and just for a change

Sausage and mash on sunday..
I think I cooked permutations of those meals for about 5 years,,,Fruit was apples ,oranges and bananas...

A lot of our carpets and furniture came out of skips and from the dump before the Council brought in health and safety and the totter man that you had to pay for stuff that others had thrown out.
If not the then auction boxes of odds for 50p or a pound...I have just passed on some towels out of one of those boxes in 1987 to the dogs...Still have a sheet and some pillow slips too..And plates and cutlery..

Maybe time to get a dinner service...never had one that everything matches..Charity shops do sometimes have them,so will have to keep an eye out..
