We didn't have kids for 7 years .... and then we only had one.

But we did send her to a private school for 12 years. Most of my salary went to pay the school fees.

There were many many months when the money only just stretched, and more than one where the bank account had $1 in it!

One of her friends couldn't believe that we only had one car ................... their family had 3 (only 2 drivers though!). J's response? "wll, you can only drive one car at a time can't you?"!

We had two cars up until eldest was born, but ex's car was an MG midget and was pretty usless as a family car.

To think our motgage was £100 a month in 1982 and still the same when I gave up work 10 years later and by that time the motgage rate had come down as low as the banks staff rate, so it did'nt make any difference.

Our mortgage payment in 1972 was lower than we had been paying in rent for a 1 bedroom apartment!

$137 per month instead of $161 (at that time, about £50 vs £60)

Mind you, the apartment was on the 7th floor, and had the most gorgeous view over downtown to the bay, and the mountains

sigh !

I still miss it!

We were also lucky ........ w usually opted for 2-year optional rate mortgages, and that worked for us. Especially as that mortgage allowed you to pay more per month than the agreed amount. We didn't miss the extra $50 a month, 'cos we never saw it!

But around 1983/84, we opted for a 5 year fixed rate of 13% .......... it was during that 5 year period that rates went as high as 21%, and people were losing their homes.

By the time we had to renew ................. the rate had dropped again to about 14%

Then OH's mother died in 1993, and we used some of the inheritance to pay off the small amount of mortgage remaining.

We'd re-mortgaged in 1977 in order to build the extension, and the extra payment every month was supposed to bring the 25 year repayment period down to about 20 ............ which meant the final payment would have been made in about 1996/97

This is a puzzlement

This has been in My Threads since yesterday. It doesn't disappear when I turn the computer off (done that about 3 times since I first saw it)

This is what I get when I click on it

404 Error
Sorry, we couldn't find the page you were looking for. http://www.genesreunited.co.nz/boards.page/board/history/barton family c. 1794 macclesfield/thread/1202435 is not a valid address on Genes Reunited.

I went to the History Board, the thread is there, 3rd thread down after the GR ones. Click on that ........ and get the very same message.

It doesn't disappear from My Threads as it would if the thread had been deleted.

any ideas anyone??

JC knows how you have to remove bits....but I'm useless at that sort of thing.

This all started when they changed everything last November there were a few threads that you could not view because they had written a novel in the surname line

I might agree with you, except I'm not using the url

....................... I've either clicked on the title in My Threads, or in Surnames.

I did wonder if the fact that it was .co.nz was a possible reason ???
