Cath2010 Report 31 May 2011 18:54

Hello everyone,
been a lovely sunny day but I didn't get out in it much. Work this morning and then in a mad moment this afternoon I decided to change filters and clean cooker hood :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P What on earth possessed me? LOL.
Marilyn loved that card trick, very clever, but that old tattooed woman :-( almost put me off my tea. That will be me one day.
Agatha I've had grey (white) hair since I was in my twenties, occasionally I used to colour it but don't bother now as it's short and would need doing every 3 or 4 weeks.
Hope you are all well,

Cath xx

Agatha, I'm guessing you must be our youngest member on this thread....... :-)

One of my nieces was playing hairdressers with my hair a few years back and she said..... "Oh Auntie Pauline...... you've got lovely sparkly bits in your hair". She thought I'd sprayed something on it. <-3

Edit: Oh, I've lost my little hearts, they come out like this now ...... <-3 <-3 <-3 <-3 <-3

Going to try them all out now...

:-) :-D :-0 :-( :-P :-\ ;-) <-3 :-S

I haven't got the bored one or the heart one!!!!!!!!!!! :-P :-P

Agatha - there’s nothing wrong with grey hair. Ask any bald person - me, for example!.

Hello, back again, who said something about bad pennies. ;-)

Now, can I pick some brains please?

I have my grandfather in the 1911 Census staying at the Royal Sailors Rest at Plymouth. I have googled it, and it seems to be some kind of Christian hostel for Sailors. Please someone correct me if I am wrong.

Now would this be for able bodied seamen, or injured personnel? I have it on the Census that he was a Stoker, so would this fit in with the general criteria for this type of establishment? Would it also be possible to see what ships etc he served on.

If someone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. I know Marilyn and Rita have magazines for Devon, and of course Stephen knows about the armed forces. So can someone give me a clue please?

Ta.

See ya later. :-)

Whippets are a medium sized breed, around springer spaniel size....many folk think we walk Greyhounds which are much bigger than Whippets, by at least 12 inches.

first off I am really getting angry now the times I am havinbg to sign on to get into the GR site is getting silly I am typing in my email and password and still it does not let me in till I have done it about three or four times what the hell are they up too. ?

Agatha well you know what is wrong with Oscar now lets hope he recovers quickly. I dont know how your suppose to get him to stay still and not run about unless you nail him to his bed. pool little mite.

Whipped Lady " Baby Dove "is lovely. that is the first time I have seen her photo. and Cath what a lovely dog you have" Gypsy" was she from a dogs looking for a home place ? in Norfolk they have lots of homes with retired Greyhounds looking for a caring home to retire into.

Maddie The only time I came across a" Christen Hotel sailors rest, "was for sailors who where on leave and had no where to stay. they use to have them alot at one time like hostels.
They did have sailors retirement homes not sure where they were, they were like the Chelsea Pensioners homes. for real old timers who came on hard times./

Stephen might know more about them.

I forgot to say I got my Great Grandfather papers and my Grandfather papers they were submariners and also my Great Uncle Walters which was their complete service records showed when they enlised and all the ships they served on with dates and time they were on them, I got mine through the Kew records office on line but you need their number if you do it that way.,
the only other way is go to Kew records office , they have big files of sailors records in name order ,but it take you for ever to read through them. when you find the ones you want you pay and they give you the records. I had four sheets of Uncle Watlers . Great Grandfather I had four sheets but he signed on again when the war came and so he had another lot of records. then Grandfather I had two big sheets of his service record. I dont know any other way.
