Mo in Kent Report 2 Apr 2010 18:38

Ello everyone.
Thank goodness Rita and Linda looked in today. I hope you both realise,
that we would have called out the search parties,to look for you otherwise.
Rita, you poor thing. You have been to hell and back lately. I think I will have to keep my eyes open for a nice chamber pot for you,or as we call them a (gazunder) coz it guz under the bed, it would save you having to keep running to the loo. lol
With all those pills you have to take, you will soon rattle as you walk.
It's nice that your neighbours, have been popping in to see you. But as or that thing called an estate manager, well what can I say. Just you remember to treat her,as she has done you, with total disrespect.
As Shelly has said,we will get the friendlies round to sort her out,she wont know what has hit her.lol
I hope the rain that we had bypassed you Linda,so that you could have your BBQ.
128 invitations,my goodness you are going to be busy Linda, good luck.
Hi Shelly,Pauline, Yvonne, Lady and our Marilyn.

Rita hope your knee is easing a bit now,I don't like your Estate manager either, if i were you i wouldn't bother to do her any favours.

my kent and sussex Linghams moved around a lot most were ag labs so they went where the work was, my Hayes stayed around Maidstone, Kent.
My Gudgeons in Lancashire were shoemakers and some worked in the mills.

I'm still waiting for 2 certs to arrive perhaps they'll come tomorrow

Pauline sending possitive thoughts for your sister and in answer to your question a while back this is my first marriage, I met my OH in 1984. I had just finished with another boyfreind I had been seeing for a few years until I found out he was seeing someone else, soon gave him the elbow!! lol

Look forward to hearing about your travels.

Rita, hope your knee is better and you can get one over on that lazy Estate Manager.

Morning all, I see Liz had an early night again......:o)

Thank you for your positive thoughts Yvonne, it's nice to know that you all care. Looks like we were both getting out of old relationships and getting into new ones at the same time........just at opposite ends of the country.

Looks like Marilyn will be back with us by Sunday afternoon/evening. Marilyn, you'll have loads to tell us because you haven't been able to talk to us much the last few weeks.....bet that was hard.....LOL

Shelly, if you want to get a cert, you'd better be quick, only a few days left before the price goes up.

Rita, I hope you stick to your guns and treat that estate manager the way she treats you. Let her know what it feels like to get no help from people.

I don't think Linda will have much time to herself for a while........not with 128 invitations to do.

Mo, you live the nearest, get yourself round there and give Linda a hand.

Hi All
Nice to read your remarks on here. I wondered why my Lee's and Horwoods and Sheldon 's stuck neaby when one moved to Chelsea they all lived in the next roads in otherwords they could walk to see each the thing that made me laugh was one came and worked in a laundry then the others that followed from somerset did the same came from somerset and wokred in a laundry. my sister and I when researching see works in Laundry we say thats one of ours.
It seemed strange when you look back and see that they came from lovely countryside to built up towns. I wonder what they would make of it all now. ?

Pauline $(*-*)$ Report 3 Apr 2010 09:00

They had to leave the lovely countryside behind Rita, they needed jobs. In those days the state didn't look after them.

How are you feeling today?

Hi Pauline

I bet they would have stayed where they were if it was this year. they would have had all the benefits of the lovely fresh air and had social benefits as well.
I always thought my family (Dads and Mothers ) came from London so I got a big shock when I found they had come from Mells a little hamlet as it was then in Somerset and Farway and Southleigh that was also a little hamlet. they had to walk to the farms every day and in bad weather at times.it was a good few miles as well over fields must have been a terible hard life..

Oh, I'm annoyed now, I've just typed out a long post and it just disappeared into thin air.

I'm not sure Marilyn would be able to get your toy-boy past customs Rita.

If the boat race is today I'll be watching it, I'll have to see what time it's on.

I'm still waiting for one of my certs to get here.

Morning Rita and Pauline
Was nicer earlier but has now clouded up. Really need to get into the garden, so much to do and so little time.
Pauline all the invites have been made and gone. I am now doing the place settings. Just a rose bud and the first name. But a bit fiddly.

Had son, wife and dog over yesterday afternoon Hubby went for a walk with son and dog. Had BBQ fine. We did have hail but cooked before that came. Nice dinner............. garlic mushrooms to start. Steak and veg for main................ apple pie or profiteroles for dessert, I had fresh fruit salad after.
Today going to friends who live down the road for dinner so within walking distance
Rest of the weekend hopefully quiet. Must try to do some ironing then more cross stitch.
Well try to check on you all later.

Linda :o) XxX

Rita, I've found quite a few things about my ancestors that I didn't know. I found it strange how they moved around so much but they obviously had to go where the work was.

Not that my family moved very far away (only 50 or 60 miles) but they did move about often. I wonder if they took all of their belonging on a horse and cart every time they moved from area to area.

Well Linda, I still think Mo could pop over and give you a hand with them.....lol

Linda, did you have steak yesterday? It was Good Friday!!

LindainBerkshire1736004

LindainBerkshire1736004 Report 3 Apr 2010 10:19

Sorry Pauline yes it was steak !!!
But I've had fish about 3 times this week already , does that count? Not sure what we will have tonight, I'll let you know.

Eldest has just popped over and brought some lovely daffodils, spring really is here. I remember as a child staying in Kent with her friend's family and we picked wild primroses and violets for the Mum. Just a snapshot memory. How easily we were pleased then. Mind you can't pick wild flowers now.

Enjoy today everyone

Linda :o) XxX

Rita Report 3 Apr 2010 12:41

Hi Linda that was nice to get some Daffadils I use to go to the woods at Chalfont st giles and they had fields of bluebells there you were allowed to pick them at that time not anymore you get a summons. I have lots of bluebells coming up on the little bit of flower border outside my bedroom window.
I did fish and chips yesterday in the oven for me. I really enjoyed that as I had not done any dinner since my leg made it hard for me to stand up. without two walking sticks.
Pauline it is nice when you find normal everyday things out about your family and ancestors I expect they took there items on a horse and cart or borrowed one.what a hard life they seemed to have had in those times. mine was due to the potatoe and crop famine in Devon three of the brothers went to Wales and worked in the pits what a difference to fresh air and then to work in a dark damp pit.
Pauline that happened to me twice this morning I typed stuff out and it whoosed went somewhere not on this thread though.
The elderly man in the flat above rang the bell to see if I wanted any thing from Waitrose I said I didnt I relly did but I didnt want him to carry a 4 lire of milk bottle. so I said I had lost the list then Carole c ame and she asked me so she got my shopping as she had her car. she had just brought it back and was putting it away when the bell went again this time it was my other friend arent people kind.
Note my Estate Manager didnt come she has not even asked what the doctor said she drove off in her car to get her shopping..
she has put peoples backs up at the way she treated Carole and me they said she is not fit to be a manager she is 34 and Polish and has no idea how to look after an estate. still I said just take no notice our turn will come

Rita, I still think you should write a letter of complaint and get everyone to sign it. At the very least it might make her a bit more concerned for the welfare of the people who live there.

Thankfully you have good friends and neighbours to help you out when you can't get around.

Our ancestors didn't have much but I think they had good friends and neighbours. They all seemed to help each other out in those days.

Can you imagine putting all of your furniture on a cart when you moved house?

They must have had a lot of things broken when they went over the cobbles. Probably had all the kids on the back trying to stop things falling off.

Mo in Kent Report 3 Apr 2010 13:35

Hello my lovelies.
Most off my ancestors came from Devon + Cornwall, and were AG/LABS,or
were shipwrights. So I suppose it made sense that they would travel up this way to Kent, for the AG work available here in the fields off Kent. And also there was the dockyard here.
The other side off the family, joined the army, and did very well for themselves eventually. It would seem that, sons followed fathers, into the forces. My great uncle died in the trenches,in the first world war,no more than a boy off eighteen.
It is so shocking to think that,we never learn, and still continue to send lads off to a
war, where the unseen enemy still kills them.

Mo my mothers family came from Somerset as I said but they were either laundry workers when they arrived in Chelsea but I was surprised at the trades of the others we have school teachers. carpenters. shop owners. one a big stores selling tools and oils stuff like that we had dress makers that was my mothers trade my sister became a school teacher as well.we also had part owners in Trebor sweets, .but they didnt seem to help the poorer parts of the family out.
My Dads family like yours Mo were ag Labourers but like yours some went into the forces the Navy and army and the followed on father son and son etc five generations Pauline I dont think they would have had much in the way of furniture in those days on the farms they had next to nothing perhaps that was why they didnt move that far each time breaking the journey as they went till they made for London and wales..

as for writing a letter to Anchor thats a laugh because it works like this. I send a letter up north to the head office with a complaint. they pass it down to the next one in the line they in turn read it and pass it to the next one who inturn passes it to The area Manager she write to me and sends a copy to my Estate Manger of my letter and her reply. she is an ex army woman and I mean ex army a strick supporter of her manager so which every way you go you are met with a FULL STOP how do I know this I made a complaint sometme ago nothing insulting just asked for the managers work to be listed so we knew her responsibilites . and guess what she put it all her way. in fact I was so annoyed at the letter I didnt speak to the area manager or the estate manger and didnt go to the AGM meeting either for a while.
