Yvonne, your g,grandfather probably worked at the brick fields, local to me at either Otterham Quay,Funton,Conyer. Where they were situated back in the 1900's,was all orchards, and very small lanes leading to the sites. Now
all the orchards have been cleared, and housing estates have been erected.
Even in the 1960's,you could ride a bike around the country side where the brickworks were. In fact Roly worked at the brickworks,at Otterham Quay, for quite a few years, before they shut it down.
The Funton works are still producing bricks. The site overlooks the river Medway.
But the production off bricks has greatly reduced, since the building boom
has collapsed.
Do you happen to know which brickmakers he worked at. If you do I could try to find out more info for you.

Happy Easter Sunday to you all have a fun day if you can.

I bet my Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren have a good time we usually paint egg faces on the shells decorate them really pretty the eggs are not inside they have been used and the shells washed. then a little bunny or chick goes inside
It is not a nice day cold and dull outside but still it is Easter.

Morning Rita, and everyone else when they get here.

Happy Easter!

It's lovely and sunny here, no rain, no wind and quite mild.........I've tempted fate by saying that - it'll rain now.

I used to like to paint eggs Rita, never done it for years. We use to boil them hard first, then paint faces on them.

Morning Rita and all
Up late this morning, hubby left at 5:00 and I slept on as we were late back last night.
Had a really nice time. Our meal was Parma ham and melon starter, Beef casserole and roast potatoes and veg and dessert was fresh fruit and creme fraiche. No wine last night just orange juice and tea to drink.
Managed 5 name settings yesterday. Did most of the ironing, have to do hubby's white shirts today UGH !!!
Hope to get in the garden today.
It is bright right now the sun is shinning and there is some blue sky.

Have a smashing day today this Easter Sunday.

No eggs bought this year all getting too old, Eldest had a cutlery set she needed. Youngest will have some dollars for her honeymoon, we will take our son and DIL for a meal when she is out of the foot plaster.

Well have been in the garden and planted 9 trays of seeds, just hoping they will show by June so I can get them going for the wedding photos !!!

Boy is it cold out there, sunny and dry but sooooooooooooo cold.

Made a cuppa and just going to warm up before I finish the ironing

Easter greetings everyone.
It's a very wet windy day here. I am trying not to put the fire on,but no doubt when Roly gets home from the club,he will want it on. I am spending a lazy day, sitting around in my pyjamas. Have had my bath, just made a nice cup off tea,so I thought I would just pop in to say hi.
I wish I had as much enthusiasm as you Linda, for getting out in the garden. But it has been far to wet and cold here to do very much clearing out there.
When it warms up a little,I must start to do something,or else my plants will not be very successful.
It's different for you Linda, you have a big day to prepare for.

HELLO..HELLO..HELLO..!

Ive unpacked......2 lots of washing on, now trying to read all messages ,but my eyes have gone funny ,so I have given up on that..LOL

Now I wont be going on anymore cruises....as it was a bit like Butlins !
I don't like to be told when to get up in the mornings..... if you didn't you missed out breakfast , so that was what put be off of cruising !
I didn't even fancy the Captain...didn't do nothing for me ,so I did not want to dine with him .LOL.

Liz there where no toy boys but plenty of aging cronies ..!! LOL

Unfortunately 4 died on the cruise ,one sat on our table, a nice man 82 yrs young, just keeled over in his cabin he was with his partner aged 79yrs.
So we looked after her and helped her with all the arrangements .
She got off the ship and came home.He was put ashore in Melbourne and was requested by his next of kin to be cremated out there and his ashes sent home at a later date !

All a bit daunting but we did have a good time in spite of it but its just not for me to ever go on another ship.

I have been traveling for 30hours and feel like YUK !!

So going to have my lovely bath, then I'll be bright as rain tomorrow.

Shelly I did not find you a Wind Chime ...but I will......one day.LOL

Speak later......

Welcome back Marilyn, great to have you home again.

So, it wasn't to your liking, didn't think you'd like getting up early in the morning while you were on holiday. I thought those cruises had food laid out all day and you could eat at any time (as well as meal times).

Well you'll have disappointed Rita by not getting her a toy-boy, she was hoping you'd bring her one back.

It must have been a bit depressing having 4 people die while on the cruise. What a shame the old man had no family at his funeral and the old woman had to go home alone, how sad.

Rita Report 4 Apr 2010 17:43

welcome home Marilyn sorry it was'nt what you expected but at least it was a break for you. I would hate to go to a place where you have to be called in time for your breakfast. I did that when I frst started going to holiday camps in 1946 we got waky waky with a loud speaker and you had set times. if you didnt appear you didnt eat.
but I enjoyed them otherwise.
I was expecting you to bring me back a man any even a young Richard Gere in white uiform. never mind we cant have all we want. must be grateful for what we have.
It is nice to have you back on board (sorry about that PUN )

Linda
your end up eith a bad back tomorrow planting all those seed in trays. MY daughter phoned to say Steve was a lot better this time after his second lot of chemo they gave him extra strong sickness pills. he said he felt like a puppet as he had to have two pumps into his arms I said what is he doing now. both he and my daughter had brought some painting by numbers and were doing those. I said dont make too much of a AirFix it kit of air i planes to do.

WELCOME HOME MARILYN.
Like the others,I always thought that you could eat at your own leisure, and not at set times.
How sad about people passing away on board. Are you sure it wasn't the food that did them in. lol
Rita will be upset that you did not bring her a toyboy back. I know Liz wanted one,but so did our Rita.
Back to reality now mate,I'm afraid.
Whens your next holiday booked for,and where.?
Never mind Rita, perhaps next time you will get your toyboy.

Hi Marilyn, Mo, Shelley, Rita and Pauline
Welcome home Marilyn
Sorry the cruise wasn't so good, long way to go to be disappointed. You have cruised before I think? Who was the cruise line. I have been a couple of times with a French one (nolonger in service), Italian (MSC) and American (NCL) all were great and not time limited on eating in restaurants that I remember, at least there was always a self service cafe to get food almost 24 hours !!
Well I finished the ironing..................... til I do more washing tomorrow, where does it all come from?
I have managed 7 place names today too, so pleased they are getting done................ only 24 more to do.
Just watched Gladiator with hubby, that is a good film.
Off to bed soon, earlier night tonight.

See you all bright and early tomorrow.
Rubbish already out, even though hubby leaves around 5:00. They might be even earlier !!!

Well hubby has gone to work. Rubbish gone but recycling still sitting there.
Might get into the garden again as the forecast down south is not too bad, dry at least.
Just put a wash on, maybe that can hang outside today too.
Roast chicken for dinner tonight, remembered to get it out of the freezer !!!

Have a good day all of you.

Morning Shelly- Linda -Marilyn- Mo and Yvonne and Pauline and Lady and Liz. hope I have all the names down. ? . had my shower and washed my hair and prayed I would still be standing when I got out of the shower as it is over my bath. I do this everytime. frightened of slipping.
and no one finding me laying there for a few days. Lol.

Marilyn you never said if your husband enjoyed the cruise ?

I am going to do my washing today working my way to the laundry room two doors up from my block.
I have been sitting doing a jigsaw puzzel I found a pile of them in my wardrobe in the spare bedroom forgotten I had them about 8 (I think ) from 500 pieces to 1000. .
my daughter brought me a Potable puzzel board a couple of years back it is one with a biase on so you can close it and carry it around with you it is a large one but very useful.
I am just going to have some tea and toast now.
see you later.

Morning ALL ..

Well I'll have to do some explaining......!

FOOD on board was ALL day.....BUT breakfast was from 6-30 until 10-am and if I wanted to sleep on as I always did..LOL..... having a late night on board .I would have missed all the cereals that I like.
The evening meal was 1st sitting 6pm or 2nd sitting 8pm.
The time factor was a major thing on board, when we wanted to go ashore on a trip it was always timed that we stayed in places then on to another venue ,there were places that we would have loved to have stayed longer but had to move on.
That was what was spoil' t by timing.
Food was excellent so cant complain about that.
Also it was ALL the tipping saga that the cruise company gave you envelopes for to dish out for the staff !!.
We think we paid enough for the cruise let alone TIPS all round.
We did tip our cabin boy because he was a dear and whatever I asked for he did.( A Chinese boy)..
All the others we were told were paid more and all of them loved their jobs so if the pay was not good I'm sure they would have left.
there was 750 of them .....so who do you TIP ????????

Everyone was complaining about the gratitude's ,but as its an American Company (They all tip in America.) its their custom.
Most of the Aussie's & English were not drawn into the tipping Lark !!

Rita, Pete did enjoy it as I did too ,but it was not his cuppa either as we both felt trapped and ....we seem to enjoy our space at our own time.Age comes into it ..LOL

Happy Easter Everyone ! forgot that yesterday.....

Got grand kids coming this afternoon so I gotta go out and get some eggs somewhere..

Its cold here and I'm not used to it........I'm washing all my summer clothes and putting them all away again......... jumpers are coming back out.!

I feel like a geriatric I had 4 letters from the hospital for various appointments.
Whats the matter with me ?????. need another holiday ...

Oh well I'll put them all on calender and go whenever required.

Now where is that Sue ? She's gone missing again anyone know where she is ?

Rita Report 5 Apr 2010 10:55

I can see all your points more clearly now about your cruise marilyn. I had trouble once when I went to Sorrento and Capri we had to tip the coach driver everyday yet he had been given a lump sum in our moneyhe owned the coaches as well then one day he didnt turn up for the trip and someone else did out tour Guide told us to double our tips to him as he was doing us a favour I wrote to the company when i came back as we had lots of problems going and coming back.

I like you have lots of hospital; appointments coming up three this month and two next month so far. ? tomorrow the district nurse comes to take some blood for tests.
we have all missed your sparkle on here and thought perhaps you had deceided not to come back.

We dont hear from Sue much now infact hardly ever so i dont know if things are all right with her. ? I hope so.
I am doing my jig saw puzzel at the moment ages since I did any .
