Sounds like you had a great time last night Frank I hope Conrad's operation goes well today. Is he your son, sorry to ask I'm still getting used to all the names and trying to work out who everyone is :-D :-D.
Yes I've learnt a few things over the years, hubby and I did a bit of property developing in the past and having to pay all the tradies was silly, so we learnt to do a lot of things for ourselves. Not allowed to touch the GAS and certain ELECTRIC'S by law now, but the small stuff is still allowed.
Hope you finally manage to get your hair cut, hubby came in last night with his ears lowered :-D
They have a person who goes to the home once a week and she cut's the staff's hair as well as the residents, if they want it done. It was only a FIVER, bargain ;-) ;-).
He's going to get it done there again next time it needs doing.
I'm going to get ready to go out now.
I'll post your birthday card today Frank when I post everyone's Christmas cards.

Hope all goes well for Conrad today Frank and that all will be comfortable for him in time for Christmas.
Oh so Fiona is off to Sofia's Nativity and Gill to a nice afternoon of Christmas songs.I do miss a lovely Nativity.Just remembering Hannah and James in theirs makes me feel all gooey.I have a lovely photo of James as a Christmas pudding lol wearing white tights !!.I love it when you see the children looking out to the audience to find Mum and Dad and giving a wave or a silly face :-D.It always made me cry to see them. I hated though the worry of getting their costumes done. Not being very clever at these things .But I think they turned all right in the end.It is a very tiring time for little ones doing all the Nativities, afternoon and evenings too.I expect my Sister will be watching Finn and Amelia in theirs.I think that Finn might be having his in Tewkesbury Abbey which will be wonderful.
The lights are on the tree BUT I think I will be fiddling and tweaking them all afternoon before any decs go on.I still think the top of the tree needs having a few inches taken off,but even with the little steps I don't think I can reach up there. There are 400 lights ,not the 250 that I thought ! I have just realised I haven't put any water in the container .That is always a faff as it is kneeling on the floor and then sticking one finger while pouring water in to make sure it doesn't spill over the top onto the carpet. We were going to out to The Snooty Fox for lunch ,but have decided we will do that tomorrow.I think that Chris has been quite shocked by the news of his old friends death so wasn't really feeling up to going out.I can see it has been playing on his mind.
I keep thinking it is Saturday today. It is because James has the day off.He is off tomorrow and Monday too so I am going to be really confused :-S :-S

Well, who's the cleanest boy in town. I went for my haircut. My little Asian girl was on her lunch break, but came out to do my hair. So instead of the usual £2.00 tip I gave her £4.00. But I did get a KISS AND CUDDLE FOR IT !!!!! So well worth the money :-D :-D :-D Unfortunately I got hair trimmings down my shirt, and had been uncomfortable all afternoon going round Matala# and Sainsbuy#s. So as soon as I got home I was straight into the shower.
Conrad didn't get his operation :-( :-( He was all scrubbed up and in his gown) when the surgeon came and told him. With your cold I can't do it !!! So he has to book it again in the New Year. He caught a cold since being back from Spain.
I hope all the nativity and sing songs went off alright this afternoon, and everybody enjoyed them. Yes Jane, we do miss the children's Nativity performances but that's what getting old means.
I heard a very sad story this afternoon from my hairdresser. A friend of hers was telling her about her Father. This girl .always went and got into bed , with her mum and dad when she was SIX or so. Now her daughter wants to get into bed with her Grand dad (He has lost his wife) But he has said NO. Because if the grand daughter (who is SIX) goes to school and tells her Teacher or friends THAT SHE GOES TO BED WITH HER GRAND DAD. He's frightened he will have the police round at his door. What has Society done, with the innocent love of a child to a grand parent. :-( :-( :-( :-( I think it's such a shame.
Jane, Most of the time Ros goes with Carolyn but sits in the car, as she can't tramp around the shops, it's a bit of company for her, and gets her out of the house.
Don't take to much off the top of the tree as there won't be a spiky bit to put up the fairies dress ;-) ;-) ;-)
Thanks for the Birthday card Ann, and Christmas card. Also yours Jane and Pat. Ros is just starting to put them up on the walls.
We had lunch in Sainsbur#s which was not good, but filled a hole and will save me cooking tonight.

Just got back in, it's really cold out now, glad to be in the warmth.
Poor Sandra missed the carol singers, apparently it wasn't a sing along like usual they had children singing Christmas carols from a local school and by the time we got there they had just finished and were leaving to go back to school. Sandra was so disappointed she didn't want to do the quiz so she got herself some books to read then we went shopping. I felt so sorry for her, she'd been looking forward to it for ages :-( :-( :-(.
BUT...... when we got to Tesc*'s what did you know, the minute we walked through the door there were lots of children from another local school just starting to sing their Christmas carol's. She was so made up :-D :-D :-D.
I listened for a while but had a trolley and the children were right by the door, so I, along with lots of other people with trollies, were blocking the entrance. So I went and done the shopping while Sandra listened to the choir then I joined her once I'd finished the shopping and put the trolley away. The children were really good and they were collecting money so I gave Sandra some to put in the box.
So Sandra got to hear the Christmas carol's in the end <3 <3.
I've posted the cards so they should be with you all soon.
400 light's Jane you've just beaten me, I've got 380
Sorry to hear Conrad didn't get his operation Frank, but hope it goes well when he does have it in the New Year. Hope his cold clears up soon.
Off to start dinner now. BBL

Evening All,
Ruby it's happened to me this morning.....losing a long post. It's so annoying! :-| It must be really tough losing a loving husband, I'm sure I don't know what I'd do if it happened to me. Grief just has to take it's course, there's no quick way to get through those times but it's good you can now look forward and you must have some lovely memories of the happy times you had together.
Poor Conrad Frank. All psyched up for his op and now it's cancelled. I remember being bitterly disappointed when I had an operation cancelled, you just want it over and done with. Still, at least he can eat today! It sounds great to be at the seaside for Christmas.....lucky you! It seems to be the time for haircuts as I did OH's last night........he didn't get a hug and kiss though......but then again I didn't get paid or a TIP!! ;-) That is a shame, but I think men are very wary what they do around children now. I can't ever remember any of us children being allowed in mum and dad's bed except when we were very little (toddlers). In fact we weren't even allowed to go in their bedroom unless we knocked first.
Thanks for your lovely card Mandy. :-) Were any of the children in the school plays you went to?
Gill, I thought Sandra would like a card addressed to her to open! I'm another DIYer that does all the painting and decorating. I used to change oil in the van I drove before I was married and adjust the distributor points with a feeler gauge. The best was when a man who worked for dad brought me a car horn from the scrap yard so I could have twin tone horns on it. I asked dad if a wire I wanted to connect was live and he said 'no'.......it was!!!! You should have seen folk jump when those twin tone horns blasted out after though!! That's reminded me of the horns that used to play a tune.....remember those anyone?
That was nice of James' employer Jane. Did the tree you chose meet with approval? Yes I think we did discuss that when we went to meet Maureen........well remembered! No wobbling on those steps with baubles in your hand!!!!!
We had breakfast at the Toby down the road this morning before OH went to his council meeting. It was nearly empty and we sat near the doorway and there were only 2 boys about 8 and 10 years old at a nearby table. The cheeky blighters were going round all the empty tables near them and nicking the gifts out of the crackers that had been laid on them!! Then they saw my dirty look I was giving them and stopped. We discovered when we were getting our breakfast from the next room that their dad and possibly grandad were sitting seperate to them in there. Typical, out of sight and no-one keeping an eye on them!!
HELLO Elizabeth, nice of you to pop in.....the door is always open!

Poor Conrad .I'm surprised he was allowed t get as far as he did before being told he couldn't go down for surgery. They must have known he had cold !!
I have 12 decs on the tree .But I need daylight now to do the rest as I can't see properly because of the tree lights.
Shirl can't get on to GR but asks me to say thanks to Fiona ,Ann ,Mandy and Mel for the Xmas cards

Evening all,
It's been a dry and sunny day here but the wind cuts through you ,i have only been out to the bin but that was enough for me .
Yes Ann, We went to see little Katie (she was dressed as a star) in her reception class play in the morning ,she was singing her little heart out she just loves singing ,it was lovely seeing all the tiny ones from the nursery class too. Chelsea's was an Angel and had a few lines to say ,she was singing away too and did all the actions . You were only allowed to take photo's of your child and everyone was told ( NO PHOTO'S ON F*CEBOOK PLEASE )
It's Christmas in our house now too :-D our tree is all decorated and i've put all the other bits and pieces about the house ,just the outside lights to do at the weekend . what a mess there is after decorating ,bits off the tinsel and goodness my hands feel so dry now ,it must be the dust off the boxes !!
Oh poor Conrad Frank fancy waiting until he was in his gown and then telling him no op today still when you think about it the new years not so far away . Hope he doesn't pass his cold around ,not some thing you want at Christmas .
Oh that was lovely Sandra got to hear the Carols, she was so looking forward to hearing them wasn't she , even if it was at Tesco's :-D
It's so sad when you have to be so careful what you say to a child now in case they repeat it and it get misunderstood , the other day Chelsea was talking about the hole she had in the knee of her leggings and we were laughing and joking about and i happened to say well grandad has a hole in his trousers and you can see his pants !! well after i thought oh i shouldn't have said that !! but it was only jokingly said at the time .
Tomorrow i'am going to sit and write out my Christmas food shopping list , i have a box loaded up with all sorts already but i need to write things down on a list or i just forget ,at least if i make a start i can add things to it as and when i think of them .

O well I am tired out afte shopping today and it took me ages to get the stuff away. I was dying for a cuppa too but I did'nt get one till I made it as oh was fiddling with my pc. It won't let me into any emails today and he has tried several things but he can't get it for me. I tried this morning as usual to see what junk mail I had but try as I might all it kept asking for was my user name and password but just would'nt accept it. So please do not send me any emails or messages, on second thoughts I may be able to get messages through here?? I shall have to have a look later.
What a shame you missed the Carols at the library Gill but Tes*co made up for it. I bet her face lit up when she heard the singing. So it all turned out well for her in the end.
Thanks to Ann for your card which arrivedwhilst I was out and was waiting for me when I arrived home with one from my cousin as well.
As far as my decs go I have my bobble glitter string up to put my cards on and thats it!! Oh's back is bad so I can't ask him to bring the tree in yet and he also has a cold and was up most of the night last night. He did'nt go out to the garage at all today and when he was out there yesterday he did'ntt have the door shut. He also asked to have his hair cut today so it must be a man thing just before Christmas.
Chicken curry for us tonight so I better get it started and I have some pomps to go with it.
Shame the op was canceled Frank now poor Conrad has to starve himself again in the new year. You would have thought he would have been told before getting all prepared. The best laid plans comes to mind.......

Yes Ann the tree was approved :-D.I did say to James to have a look around for another if he fancied ,but no he was happy with this one.You could have knocked me down with feather lol
Ha! he has just come home ...and said the lights look too bright and tacky !!!!!! BUT he didn't realise there are no baubles or other decs on yet :-D It will all look a bit 'softer' tomorrow when everything is on the tree.

Yes Ann I remember the two tone horn but can't remember the name of the tune. My hubby had one on his car when we first met. He also tried to teach me to fix cars but being so small once the car was up on the ramps I couldn't see a thing so gave it up as a bad idea.
I know if there is a problem with the car by the sounds so just let hubby get on with fixing it now. I remember helping him to fix the car once and had put on a pair of his overalls, bearing in mind he is 6ft tall and I'm only just over 5ft so I had to roll up the sleeves and legs and to my horror when I went back into the back garden there he was with a camera so I just put both my arms out and smiled as he took the photo.
You said Jane that you had a photo of James as a Christmas pudding with white tights, but you didn't say you'd only took the photo yesterday lol only joking.
Be careful climbing up to the top of the tree maybe you could leave the top for Chris or James to do and just stick to the lower part of the tree to decorate it might be safer.
I liked the quote your OH made Mel, very funny :-D
I hope his back is better soon. Is your computer working ok now, there's nothing more annoying when pc's don't play nicely.
How lovely Mandy to see Katie and Chelsea in their plays, I used to love watching my girls when they were little.

Lucky ol Shirl has her first snow.
It's the same here as where Gill is, wet out but the winds dropped. It really came up last night when I went top bed the wind was howling and the rain was lashing against the bedroom side window.
Did'nt wake early this morning as I got up in the night for a wee and went back to bed and it was still dark.
Oh managed to get into my emails this morning and I think it could be back to normal for a little while.
Can I please ask you not to sned me forwarded emails or any that have a lot of addresses on them, thanks.
Back to my rings now as the shop is asking for them.

Morning Gill and All, evening Kim,
Very overcast sort of morning, looks like rain, and no wind to speak of, still cold.
Don't keep us in SUSPENDERS Mel, Are we to be let into WHAT you are buying each other ???
Jane you be careful if you are climbing up steps, we don't want any accidents. !!!
Those TWIN horns were everywhere years ago, playing that tune. I can't describe how it went but remember it even now. Bit like the ICE CREAM VAN. !!
What fantastic service Amazo# are offering this Christmas. I ordered a game for Lewis last night and it was delivered by 9.00 am this morning. I also ordered at 9.45 pm last night something for Conrad, to hang Christmas lights from walls in the lounge, that don't do any damage when taken off the wall. They will be with him this afternoon, or tomorrow morning.
My niece is 59 today. I remember going to see her when she was ONE, with an enormous TEDDY BEARS it was three times bigger than her.
Ros has just rung an old work fried who is in her 90s. She has been diagnosed with cervical Cancer. Ros is popping over to see her this morning. The poor woman has to go for treatment this afternoon.
Dinner already for tonight, Loin of pork, with roast parsnips and pots, cabbage, Brussels, carrots and peas and roasted red onions.

Hi chaps and chapesses, just thought I'd pop in and say thank you so much to those who sent us such lovely Christmas cards in the post. I've sent some out to those I have addresses for so I hope they get to you OK, only some of you I don't know surnames for, so please don't be offended if it just has your first name on.
I've still got to get back on and try and catch up a bit but after my lengthy post of the other day disappeared into thin air, I have to pluck up courage and hope to keep my fingers crossed while typing at the same time !!!
I'll just say for now that I took Carmel to the doctors this mornings and some bad news we had a few weeks back has turned out to be not so bad news (still not good news though. I'll bring you up to spped on that when I get a chance.
So hopefully, I'll try that out later tonight.

just been thinking about the tangerines we used to get at Christmas time when I was a child - they were individually wrapped in tissue paper which had gold writing on it - they had the real smell of Christmas - wonder why we don't see them anymore?
