don't see too many of those British comedians now

...... our CBC or US public tv used to show them over and over again in the 70s and 80s.

to return to toilets :-D

C asked a question about "tippler" toilets?

Yes, there were such things as tippler toilets.

That's the kind I grew up using, at least until I was 11.

The toilet was outside at the end of the back yard, and it was "flushed out" by water running from the kitchen sink to the main sewer under the back lane

If I remember correctly, water from the sink would go down the pipe and be held in an underground chamber near the toilet. That chamber eventually overflowed (tippled) into the toilet and flushed out the other side into the main sewer.

I think the design was intended to be that normal water use would cause the overflow.

I remember Mum regularly turning on the cold tap just to run water down the sink to "tipple" the toilet.

Hello wall

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 9 Jul 2011 11:32

Last night's curry?????? yeeeuk.

OH has come round a bit so that's good. This is what happens with Parkinson's......it's 'orrible it is.

Having my coffee break before picking up daughter later. Will be on the go then!

Have just received the most beautiful and tasteful wedding invitation card I think I have ever seen. I opened the envelope with OH looking over my shoulder and we both stared at the names thereon.

Not a clue who they were! Didn't recognise the names at all.

We read it through again; pondered; shook our heads and then tried working out who we knew with those surnames....one of which was Smith!

Then it slowly dawned on us.

The bride, we assume, is the daughter of an old friend of ours whom we haven't seen for about 10 years. If we have ever met this girl, she must have been an infant. The old friend is one of our daughter's Godfathers.

We think we have solved the mystery but it certainly kept us guessing for a while.

We won't be able to go because of OH but it was a lovely thought and I will write a grateful letter back.

Dea Report 9 Jul 2011 13:43

Cynthis - glad to see that OH is feeling a little better.

Now - you know I rarely disagree with you but in this case I have to agree with Ginns.

There is nothing wrong with last night's curry and a bit of nan bread for breakfast - It sounds lovely to me :-D

I often nibble on the previous day's left-overs at breakfast time - curry, chinese, cold meat or sausages. This morning I enjoyed some cold bacon layer (layers of potato, onions and bacon - cooked slowly and crisped on the top in the oven - One of my grand-daughter's favourites)..

I am just about to heat the rest of it up for my lunch.......... delicious !

Get stuck in Ginns !!! ;-)
