LOL that's the kind of thing I would do!!
I was very proud of her though, she didn't cry or anything when it was time to go home (she was overtired so I thought she'd yell the house down but she was pretty good.
Alas now to think of what to do for her birthday coming up...it seems to be the done thing that you have a party at just about every age and some of the parents go mad trying to outdo each other!

It's the same over here
Two of the hosts on a local radio were discussing this very thing the other week, one has a 4 year old, and was saying just what you are saying.
The other (male) said that he'd heard a great rule ................
same number of children as years!
We were lucky, our daughter never wanted a really big party, I think 6 was the most we ever had until she got into her late teens ............... and she loved to "go out for dinner". As long as we picked the right places, that did work well ........... when she was young any "family type" restaurant other than Macdonald's, or our local hamburger joints, etc, fitted the bill beautiful.

That's a good rule...I was thinking of a small McDonald's party for her..I have a really big family so something like that would eliminate the mess I guess and all the work you do beforehand.
Some people hire animals and reptiles, go to spas and have make up parties and stuff like that which I think is over the top. LOl I don't know that she would even know half as many kids as some of these parties have attending!
I was always happy just to get a birthday cake! :-)

Yes we seem to copy the USA a lot, I'm not sure why. I'm sure life was simpler when I was a child, or maybe that's a sign of getting old!
Breakfast sounds delightful, nearly time for me to go, hope everyone has a nice day ahead of them.
Cheers

Wonderful breakfast, as always, Sylvs... Thank you <3
Rachelle, you have confused me now - I have been calling you Grace for so long, it seems quite strange to think of you as 'Rachelle'.
Anyway, you are right about those birthday parties and it gets worse once they start school - all the mums trying to 'out-do' each other with 'bigger and better' parties.................. I am waiting to see who will be the first one to invite the whole class for a weekend in Disneyworld (tee hee) !
I t is nice that you enjoy cooking with your little daughter - I have a 6 year old grand-daughter and we have always cooked and baked together. She doesn't make quite so much mess nowadays but she still eats half the ingredients before we get them mixed - sultanas, chocolate chips, great lumps of butter etc. - I am surprised she doesn't make herself feel ill but she always has room to sample the finished product :D
I really must start doing the same with my little grandson but he is just SO messy, even when you don't let him loose with anything to make a mess with, that I keep putting it off.
Don't you just love'em though ?? <3

Good morning all and thank you for breakfast.
Rachelle, what a pretty name!
My grandchildren love cooking too - more than I do :-(
It's the same with children's parties over here. Whatever happened to good old musical chairs and pass the parcel etc? That's all we could ever afford for our kids Mind you, it's easier to take them out I agree.
Now my grandchildren are older, my son tends to take a small group of them to the pictures to watch the latest movie for their age and then go on to McDonald's or Pizzahut or suchlike.
As for the idea of giving each child an expensive 'goody bag' to take home......nooooooooooo.
Re your mum and my grandad Sylvs....apparently, he used to make my grandma cry when he was 'barking' orders at the men under his control...I think he was a Sergeant Major at some stage and must have sounded like one of those officers you hear at Royal occasions.......He was such a gentle man too....I never heard him raise his voice but, he was 70 when I was born so I only knew him from then on. He lived till he was 94 and died just after I presented him with his first gt.grandchild :)
Pouring with rain here :(
Off to an autism meeting soon....let's hope there's less words and more action ~~~~~~~~~

This is not a social comment but just an observation about how things seem to have changed in recent years.
Today we have had two tradesmen working at our house. One a central heating engineer, the other a tree surgeon. Nothing particularly unusual about that but what was unusual (To me at least) was that in both cases their assistants (Mates) were female.
I am not a chauvinist and certainly see no harm in females following those career paths if that is their desire but in years gone by I cannot recall females earning their living in similar occupations out of choice. I know that during wartime females were inducted into many occupations that had traditionally been considered male preserves because of the physicality involved but once peace was restored they usually reverted to the more traditional female roles.
The world has obviously changed far faster than I imagined.

Don't worry Lesley, Sylvia always cooks LOADS !!
There is plenty left in the warmers and if you would like eggs I will cook you some fresh ones (the ones in the warmer are a little 'over done' tee hee ). - The rest is O.K. though and there are plenty of 'befores' and 'afters' !!
Nice of you to join us ..........
Tea, coffee or juice?

Hi Lesley....
Sylvia and Deas brekkies are good but dont touch Cynthias with a barge pole....Likes to think she can cook that one,but its rubbish....
Jonesey you really have asked for it this time...
After the wars it would seem that many women did not WANT to go back to being a housewife, but were made to by their husbands and societies expectations of females...
Living in a rural area we have lots of females doing "mens"jobs,I myself always say that anything a man could do so could I ,except stand up to pee of course...

It has to be Coffee Dea.................I can't function until I've had that!!
Re: the US versions of Birthday Parites...............I must be one of the lucky ones as my Daughter sticks to the old fashioned parties for my Grandkids..........Sandwiches, Jelly, homemade cakes, and fun games like Pass the Parcel and Musical Chairs.................xx I can't understand why people go to all that expense.........save it for the 21st xx

Jonsey would you rather have Ginny climb your trees to prune the branches or do maintenance on the heating system in the outfit she wears for her GR picture

Rob,
You might have a good point there, I never thought of that possibility. ;-)
FBG,
Get back in the kitchen where you belong and stop bemoaning the fact that you cannot do every last little thing that a man can do. :P
