Good morning everyone, hope that you have had a nice day!

I think one of the best changes to the site is seeing all the photos on the avatar (guess I must be a stickybeak) but I love looking at old pictures, how people dresses, what they might have been thinking when the photo was taken!)

:-)

Hi Grace

I like looking at the early pictures also!

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 20 May 2011 00:38

I had a studio photo of me, aged about 18 months or so.

When OH retired, they gave a party for him and 2 others, and asked for early photos of the retirees AND of their partners.

I sent that one, it did come back ................ but I haven't been able to find it since!

I must have put it in such a safe place until I could put it back in its album!

and I was a very cute blonde curly-headed little girl

I have a photo of my brother, aged about 2 or so, wearing in a velvet suit

Aren't they lovely. It's nice tos ee children all dressed up and looking all well behaved! (Bet they weren't in real life) LOL

I am so grateful for the invention of scanners so at least you can get a copy and the old photo's aren't lost forever.

People are more inclined to to let you access their photos knowing you can scan it and take a copy and give the original back.

for the rest of you .....................

our equivalent of your House of Lords is the Senate

For 100 years or more, Senators have been appointed, and as such things do, being appointed a senator is often used as political "thank you" by whatever party is in power when there comes a vacancy. Senators currently have to retire at 75, and some have been appointed at 50-ish

so a good sinecure.

Our PM has maintained from a good 10 years or more that this is wrong, and he would change the system so that Senators would be elected ..... much as they are in the US

However, he has not yet done that .... but he has appointed enough replacement senators to stack the place in his favour.

Yesterday he capped everything, appointing 3 new senators.

Two had been senators, then resigned their posts to run in the election the other week. Both failed, and have now been appointed back to the Senate.

The third was an MP, but lost in the election, so she has been "upgraded".

Can you spell "cynical"???

Ah that's politicians..think that they are the same in every country!

Hmm am just having a look at the GR FB site a couple of the posts in which one person had jumped on Ginny etc seem to have dissapeared really quickly (Person has the same name as you Sylvia but I know it's not you)

Whoever she is she does not seem very friendly (or that is the impression that I get, she seems very dark on the site?
