Persie

I don't know about those cheeses.

Yoghurt is dairy, so probably not.

Many lactose- and dairy-intolerant people can eat goat or sheep cheese .

.......... but to be honest, my reaction is so strong that I really am not brave enough to try

I don't like spending 4 hours sitting in the bathroom!

I did have some problems with this site last night

I closed all my tabs to do a Disc Clean, and then could not open Genes Reunited. Just kept getting site not available.

Eventually, I googled GR, clicked on that, and it opened for me

Took about 10 minutes

It's good to be back to normal again. I hate having the last post first.

What's with all the cancelled appointments!!! Is there a conspiracy going on do you reckon :D

I can't see the point of the how many people have done what on here either Sylvs. It will all be in aid of advertising how marvellous this site is!!

I had to turn my contact updates thingey off because I have so many contacts. It was like watching the world and his wife go by! :-)

I do wonder about the people running this site. Their knowledge of genealogy seems pretty limited. On FB, they are looking for 'ancestors' of a Pendle Witch......Alice Nutter....who was hanged 1613!!!! Somebody has pointed out their error to them. Where's that rolling eye emoticon when you need it....... :D

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 26 May 2011 20:32

Did anyone notice that the 1911 (or parts of it) is now on Ancestry??

Dea

Dea Report 26 May 2011 20:34

Hasn't it been available on Ancestry for a while now Cynths??

Or do you mean it is now in the 'ordinary' package?

Dea x

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 26 May 2011 20:40

but it is sooooooooooooooooo difficult

It isn't indexed properly yet

you put in your ancestor's name, then you get a whole long list of people with the name and their address

so if you don't know their address in 1911, you have to look at every one.

I still prefer the 1911census site

Dea ............... ancestry has said on fb that it will be included in all 3 packages

we wait and see!

No no no....you cant get the full 1911 census on Ancestry...I have asked them several times....'when will you be publishing the census'

......'we have the summary of the 1911'

Hmmmm....will be changing my loyalty very soon to FMP

jax Report 26 May 2011 21:49

I didn't tell you this.

Yesterday was the first day of the graduation ceremonies. 4 ceremonies in the day

OH came home absolutely exhausted ...... and HUNGRY!

They are getting more and more students coming to grad ........... which is good, except that means that there are really too many at any one ceremony

thus the ceremony runs over time, it takes longer to get everyone out of the theatre, then the next lot in, etc etc

The first ceremony started at 8:30 am, then 10:30 am, 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm

He had time to eat 2 halves of strawberry and 1 small chunk of melon between about 8 am and getting home at about 6:15 pm

They had two MINUTES between the ending of the 10:30 ceremony and getting the students together for the 1:30 pm!

He said that they will have to seriously consider adding at least one more ceremony, on the Saturday morning.

Just out of interest ...................

His "job" involves .................

getting the students into line up in the "marshalling" room, getting them loosened up, and telling them what to expect.

leading them about 300 yards from that building to the theatre.

getting them into the theatre and into the correct seats so that they will go up on to the stage in the right order.

Then he stands on the stage at the top of the stairs (about 5 or 6 steps), and checks that each student coming up has the certificate, and a little card with their name on it. He then directs the student to hand the card to the Dean reading out the names, and tells the student to whisper the name to the Dean if there could be a pronounciation problem.

He jokes with them to try to keep them "loose" as they wait for the student in front to have hand shaken, etc

Then he gives them a little push to start them across the stage, reminding them to stop at a certain point ("feet marks") so that their photo can be taken.

He loves it!!

Meanwhile, there is an almost 80 year old retired Professor standing at the bottom of the stairs at the other side of the stage waiting to catch the ones who fall!

The poor man! You'd better fill any pockets he has with some energy inducing goodies! And a bottle of something strong!

Hope the 80 year old is strong enough to catch falling bodies.....:D

Any pics of him all robed up for FB?

I've just put one on the GR page.

Nearly bedtime here........so night everyone~~~~~

Sounds like he is doing a good job there Sylv

He must be starving after only having a strawberry and a piece of melon all day?

I thought it was bad when HID kept leaving me salads for my tea when he was doing this kitchen job, but at least there was an egg, piece of quiche and some cheese to go with it.
