Gene chat become another look up board?

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 31 May 2011 20:22

Well ... I have a thread on the Suggestions board about this.

I had one on the Genealogy Chat board but several people decided to play their usual ignorant games and the result was that the thread was deleted and I was chastised.

It just looked so *hostile* to poor newbies, doncha know?

Yeah, all the usual suspects playing their usual ignorant games of misrepresenting and hounding, I'll bet it did.

Go add to my Suggestions thread!

drunks should definitely be given a very wide berth. They are not worth the hassle.

OH has something which is attached to the bed to help getting in and out of bed and it is very stable. It is like a hoop attached to a piece of wood with straps on. The straps go under the base of the bed and under the mattress and tied securely. It is similar to this one and was provided by occupational health

for some unknown reason, I got a "new" catalogue through the post the other week (think they must have bought the mailing list from another company!)

It's american, so probably no use to you for ordering, but there are loads of wonderful gadgets in there to make life easier.

Among them are 2 types of bath tub rails ............ both fit along the side of the bath, and both have rubber pads to protect the bathtub

Something similar must be available over with you.

And there are all kinds of rails and supports to improve toilet access.

they also offer several types of "massagers" lol!

'cos it's only lunchtime here!

Had a wonderful time yesterday.

It's always great to go to a graduation ceremony .......... everyone's always so happy!

Our friend gave a very interesting short talk after being inducted with an Honorary DSc

Lunch was fun ............ about 14 people, and the food was pretyy good.

Then I came home on the bus, rested for a short while, and we took our friend out for dinner. That was an excellent meal as always.

Tonight, it is the university President's Reception for Honorary degree recipients

but I'm having a relaxing middle of the day!

FBG -- I have the family crutch collection somewhere. In my family, that amounts to quite a few. My broken leg when I was 7, my mum's when I was 4, my sister's when she was about 15 ...

When I broke my foot a few years ago and was in screaming agony after sitting at my friends with my foot in an icebucket playing cards for a few hours -- it was okay as long as I didn't try to stand on it. So she decided to put me on a skateboard and push me across her parking lot to my car (fortunately I broke my left foot and it was an automatic).

Do not try this at home. It just didn't work. So she got her car and drove me 20 feet to my car. She followed me home, I dragged myself up the back deck to the back patio door (after she went around and unlocked the front door to get in) -- hopping on one foot just isn't that easy when you're not 10 years old anymore. I collapsed in the house and made her go up to my 3rd floor attic, in the dark, to get some old crutches. I wouldn't have gone up there in the dark for money!

Before I inherited all the family junk when my parents moved, we were home at Christmas one year. My younger brother had refused to come because he wasn't speaking to the older (middle child) brother. Every Christmas has some variation of this.

Younger brother's name happens to be ... Tim.

So I fetched one of my age 7 crutches from that attic ... and propped it up in a corner ...

Hahahaha. My mother didn't think it was funny.

Not sure how effective they are but there are inflatable bath lifts. They are expensive but your Health visitor should be able to give a solution which does not cause irreversible damage to the property

Here are some examples

JaneyCanuck Report 31 May 2011 22:08

I eventually went to the ER two days later, Ginny. Having steeled myself for the wait.

There were people with sprained ankles (what I figured I had, just being careful) lying on stretchers, languishing in wheelchairs ... I got tired of waiting for an orderly with a wheelchair to take me to Xray, so I walked a few city blocks through the hospital to get there and back myself.

I was the only one in the ER that day with an actual broken bone.

Waited another hour for my cast. That doc said if I had supplemental insurance (most people here are civil servants who do have) he'd give me the fibreglas cast, but otherwise it was plaster (and no bathing) for me. How much if I have no insurance, I asked. $100 he said, not worth it. Well it is to me, I said, gimme it. No, he said, not worth it. Worth it to a civil servant's insurance company but not to me?? There can be advantages to looking poor when you aren't, but I wanted my fibreglas cast.

Eventually he decided I didn't need any cast at all, as long as I didn't bend my foot for a couple of weeks. That worked.

So five years later when I broke the same bone in the same foot, I knew just what to do ...

Gee Report 31 May 2011 22:16

Canadian medics....scarey!

You can damage ligaments (perminantly) by not treating a broken bone.....I wonder why you broke the same (weakened) ankle again?

For a bright lass, you can be a right numpty.....

...Cyns......where's your sofa back?
