Dea Report 2 Jun 2011 07:20

Good morning Sylvia - lovely to see you back with us at breakfast-times. <3

I need a good breakfast this morning as I have to 'get myself' together early today I am going to be 'busy busy' !!!

We are taking our little grand-daughter out for the day to the 'Black Country Open Air Museum'. She loves all Museums but this one is different, they have brought lots of buildings from all over the 'Black Country' (For those not familiar with England - Areas around Dudley in the Midlands where there were lots of coal mines and the area was blackened by the smoke from all the Foundry's and Iron forges etc)

Anyway, they have brought many buildings from this area and reconstructed them on one site so you can wander along the cobbled streets and go into the 'back-to-back' houses, the old chemist shop, bakers shop, school etc - they have a Colliery and a coal barge and canal, plus LOTS more... Also, there are people wandering around in traditional custume going about their daily business etc.

She will just LOVE it, - I hope !!

I don't know how 'granny' is going to manage with all that walking around all day though, we will just have to grabs some 'little rests' along the way somehow.

Wish me luck all - see you tonight, hopefully.

Will just have this lovely breakfast and a 'tiny' mooch around then I had better be 'up and at'emm'.

Thanks Sylvia,

Dea x

Morning all

Just dropped in for a coffee before I start decorating.

Dea I love those living museums and haven't been to one for years, I'm sure your granddaughter is going to love it because there is so much to do rather than walking round looking at artifacts.

Good morning.......thanks for breakfast Sylvs. Coffee much needed.

Have finished my dusting etc but am about to embark on my little 'sanctuary' outside. OH calls it a shed but it isn't! It's a little place with a frosted window and partly glazed doors. It is has electricity and that's where I do my ironing in the summer. It also has a tv socket but I don't really want to watch tv out there, although I believe the lady of the house before us occasionally did.

Thanks for the compliment Persie.....it's a picture of me when I was about 3-4 years old I guess. Apparently, I got nits at the time I had plaits and my mum was so upset, she just hacked the plaits right off! I must have looked a pretty sight then!

Dea....very envious...have a lovely day. I've been to Beamish and that was wonderful - same sort of thing.

Up until a couple of years ago, we had a real tourist centre at Wigan Pier. It was turned into a living museum remembering the coal mining days.

They had re-created a mine (horrendous) and various Victorian rooms - public house, kitchen and outside loo.

There was a team of actors who regularly put on 'playlets' about the life and times of the Victorian era etc.etc.

The highlight was the Victorian schoolroom, where actors entertained parties of visitors to what it was like to be at school then. It was fantastic because of the discipline involved. You had to have your hands inspected before you could sit down and not allowed to talk.

The Head Teacher (in frock coat) would strut around with a cane in his hand, occasionally bringing it down on the desks. The thing I remember them putting up on the blackboard was........"Tyger, Tyger, burning bright" .

Such fun. but then the cuts came......sigh

Oh well, happy times.......!

We took our grandson for his ninth birthday last year to an Historic Village, it is where the Fencible cottages were built 1840 - 1880 period. They have a working weekend once a month. We lost him at one point, we had been talking to a woman from Australia dressed up in period costume. He knew where he should be he was in the school room and we were late for class. In the church we sang "Tell me the old old story" - one that my father would often sing around the house. Now we have to think where to take him for his 10th which is in a few weeks.

Persie - I will tell you how himself broke his toe at some stage, it certainly tops rolling off the doormat.

Hope you have a good day Dea...you need a scooter to get around these places. HID says he has been there many a time as he lived that way with 2nd wife I think

Think the only one of those type of things I have been to, was a gold mining town in Australia, was pretty good as far as I remember.

Just been to sign in to Ances*ry this morning and a survey came up asking if I was new and if I completed it I could have 20% off of any of the subscriptions...may give them a ring again about up grading with 20% off

Sylvia is that you all togged up for the beach. Reminds me of my woollen bathing suit era. How I hated that thing.

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 2 Jun 2011 18:25

Cor....didn't know you were THAT old Persie......woollen bathing suit?? You didn't go down to the sea in a horse drawn carriage did you......? ;-)

Bispham, sunny Bispham.....nearly in Blackpool but not quite. It was really exciting to go to Blackpool in those days wasn't it? Southport was popular too.

Are you back yet Dea? Have you had a wonderful day........hope so.

Went to see my poorly friend today. The change in her is absolutely wonderful, her mobility is slowing improving and she is chatting away. I've only really noticed a slight lack of odd memoriy things now and then.

There hasn't been an explanation for her condition and illness but, I do wonder if I (and several others) were correct in our 'diagnosis' of untreated depression/anxiety culminating in a breakdown.

Other contributory factors could be dehydration and lack of proper food. She is now talking of going home which seems to be a possibility once some adaptations have taken place. I am so grateful for small mercies...... :-)

Hi all,

Yes, I am back and yes, we all had a lovely day.

Too tired to tell you all about it now but I will tomorrow.

It has been a hot day - around 27 degrees and my little feet are throbbing !

Going to have a quiet sit down and catch up on all your posts.

What's all this about being requested for review???

I hope you are still all here in the morning but, if not, I will find you all (I hope).

Cynthia Report 2 Jun 2011 20:26

Hey....what's going on??? I've just noticed the RReview too.

Why on earth would someone do that after all this time? Rather smallminded of whoever it was.....tut.

Maybe they are jealous because this thread is so popular..... ;-)

TootyFruity

TootyFruity Report 2 Jun 2011 20:29

It beggars belief that a request review would be sent after all this time. Very small minded
