Some can be very hairy. Some roads have no speed limit either which is why Jeremy Clarkson like it.
When I moved here the first time, there was no traffic lights or roundabouts or speed limit. People left the keys of their cars in the ignition and never locked the doors of their houses. All very strange to me. You could go into the bank, without a deposit book or withdrawal slip and just ask for your money. The cashier knew who you were and check if you had sufficient funds and handed over the money. Everything was extremely laid back. All changed since the money laundering.

Hi Jax,
This morning I spotted a thread where someone was asking you for further help on a thread that you had posted on during the night. I replied to the poster explaining that you were a bit of a night owl and that it was unlikely that you would be around that early on a Saturday morning. I was going to say that you were a dirty stopout but thought better of it ;-)
Hope you don't mind

Hi all,
Storm flies !! - Does anyone else have them?
I don't know what they are but it seems to be 'that time of year' and they are all over my house!
They are about 1mm long and just like a fine straight line - fairly fast moving but probably only live for a day but when they die they just stay where they are and you have to wash them off!
When I lived in South Wales, I never saw any, in fact, I never came across them until I moved to the Midlands. - Here, they just call them 'storm flies' and take them with a 'pinch of salt'.
What are they?
Who else has them?
What can you do to kill or deter the bug##ry things ?

Thanks Jonesey
Yes I saw it but there was nothing more for me to say rather than search the trees himself for that name.
That was probably the only thread I posted on last night as nothing was happening as usual.
Why do people who want details from scottish records get so abusive? Had one last night I did'nt say anything to her I just asked the person helping to send the details privatley as the marriage was only two years ago.
Then the helper did'nt see it was a problem as it could be found on SP??
I then get an unpleasent pm about me and another member, who on her duplicate request was asked to remove the details also May as well just stay quite and let everyone post just what they like, if GR do not want to employ moderators let them get on with it

I think it must be a 'Midlands thing' Ginns - I have never had them anywhere else but people around here just think they are normal!
They also thing that 'flying ants' are normal (another thing which I have never experienced anywhere else)!
You will suddenly get a day in the Summer when people will say "close your windows - the ants are flying" and then the sky will be black with millions of ants flying around.............. yuuuukk !!

Jax,
I don't know the answer as to why people wanting details from Scottish records get abusive. I suppose it might be due to frustration caused by the fact that most of the records they seek are only available at Scotlandspeople and they have to pay to get access to those. (No subs only payg)
Regarding whether tis better to keep stum about some things and thus avoid unpleasant PM's, I would say that it probably is. Just let them get on with it.

What I am saying Dea is if you see something than infringes on someones privacy.....do you just ignore it? or mention that it should be removed? or the same thread posted on living rellies and find ancestors, mention there is another thread with a reply? or let someone else use their SP credits to find it again?
I know I am loved here :-D its just the aggresive behaviour from some of the posters...when No aggression has been shown to them.

It's a difficult one Ja....x
My inclination is like yours, to mention the problem and hope that it will be put right but I too, in the past have received 'hate mail' when I was just trying to help.
It is most unpleasant and difficult to put aside but sometimes you have to do just that in order to save yourself all the unpleasantness.
After all, what are a few credits to someone who wan't to spend them, or wasted time to people finding what has already been found?
It is not as bad as the 'hate mail'?
However, like you, I still cannot stand by and not comment. So, I think we will just have to learn to ignore the unpleasant consequences!

Just a pop in --------have not even looked at my tree and have not done any research for sometime
but had an email today from an Tasmanian relative via my grt grt grandmothers elder sister
and wondered if someone could look at this for me
1841 Census Spieway, Askerswell WALTERS, William M 60 1781 Dorset WALTERS, Dolley F 60 1781 Dorset WALTERS, Jane F 20 1821 Dorset ******gt gt Granny WALTERS, George M 0 (9 months) 1841 Dorset WALTERS, Jane F 0 (9 months) 1841 Dorset LEGG, Joseph M 60 1781 Dorset LEGG, Susan F 50 1791 Dorset
It is claimed that William and Dolley are her parents ----- I have my doubts because of ages --- also the Legg s feature in the Parsons tree ( Jane Walters twins are actually base born Parsons -- baptised with middle name Parsons although transcribed as Pastory !!)
My theory is/was Jane has gone to live with her grandparents with the twins --- and the elderly Leggs are related to Dolley --- but no evidence
I have searched before for Janes birth --- on later census she says born Askerswell Dorset 1817 --- but those records are missing from Askerswell
Jane Walters was deaf and dies in 1907 -- my grannys elder sister ( her mother Ellen ( Janes daughter ) dying young ) lived with all her life and she looked after 3 or 4 other base born children of her children --- one of whom went to Tasmania
My Granny told me Jane was a wonderful woman -- but never have been able to find her before 1841
Many Thanks Renes
