dratted "family stories" and dratted husbands!

or I could use a MUCH stronger word :-D

every time I start doing his family, and mention someone's name, or a place, he starts "Ah yes, now the story about that is ......."

Tonight, I'm looking at Hughes ...... I find a family tree on ancestry that has "acquired" OH's grandmother, 3 siblings and her father (but wrong mother).

I'm trying to work that out when OH comes in. I'm muttering to myself, and he wants to know why

Stupid me, tells him what I'm trying to work out.

"Ah yes", sez he, "well, Nain always said that Lizzie died aged 14 in 1888."

Ah, but I can't find no death for an Elizabeth M(argaret) Hughes in 1888

Nor in April 1890, when another cousin says she died (he even has a date).

I can find one dying in 1892 aged 18 ................. fits in with birth in 1874 ............... in the correct registration district.

But no .............. "Nain always said that Lizzie died aged 14, in 1888. She once took me to Lizzie's grave, but I don't know where that was".

Family stories!!!

and husbands :-P

Everytime I see "Porridge" on Sylvs menu I think of Ronnie Barker... I thought both he and Richard Beckingsale were so good. The wit in that program was top knotch.

Ronnie Barker has such a great sense of timing and humour.. he was dressed as a courtier in line with meeting the Queen and he was handing out programmes and the Queen went to take one and he told her the cost and then said Oh that's right you don't carry money in your handbag maam... or something like that.

And when he won an award at the Baftas and he said he was surprised and would have to do something off the cuff,,, 10%cotton and 90% polyester.

cheers Gladys Emmanuel. xx

Lunch looks delicious Sylvia but I think I will 'chicken out' on the 'fiddleheads' - looks like they can be a little dangerous to eat!!

I am sure that your's are perfectly safe but I am not sure I like the look of them either so I will just enjoy the rest of that lovely lunch and not take the chance :-D

What the....are fiddleheads? No doubt they are some dead flesh of some sort

Toms and mushrooms on toast for me and lots of tea please...hmmm or do I have the boiled eggs?

Ronnie Barker, what a star he was :-D

Dea

Dea Report 3 Jul 2011 09:16

They are 'vegetarian' Ginns - no 'dead bodies' !!

Some kind of fern fronds but they dont look very appetising to me ! - A bit like curled up green worms?..... yuukkk !

They supposedly taste very nice though (like asparagus), so you would probably like them.

Gee Report 3 Jul 2011 09:32

Ewee.....Dea just looked at them and I have them all over my garden in spring before they open up as ferns. They dont look very nice

Heres some info too

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has investigated a number of outbreaks of food-borne illness associated with fiddleheads. The implicated ferns were eaten either raw or lightly cooked (sautéed, parboiled or microwaved), which was what caused a food-borne illness outbreak in British Columbia in 1990. Although a toxin has not been identified in the fiddleheads of the ostrich fern, the findings of this investigation suggest that you should cook fiddleheads thoroughly before eating (boil them for at least 10 minutes).

My advice....just buy peas!

Gin,

Phil has put forward some of his thoughts on your VINDICTIVE REPORTING thread. If you haven't already done so it might be worth you adding your comments to his ideas.
