Workman?........... Sanctuary?

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 1 Oct 2013 18:02

It's a little summerhouse in our little back garden. It is all wired up and I do my ironing out there when the weather is good. I can also go out there when I need to 'take a deep breath'...... ;-)

It now has a new door frame and the windows are going in tomorrow. :-D

Dea Report 1 Oct 2013 18:09

Awwh - that's nice Cynths - I am sure that you find it a great escape at times !! <3

By the way, don't you miss your airing cupboard now that you have a combi boiler ??, especially with all that washing and ironing that you do !

My son (the plumber) was always telling me how good they are but I would never have one because I would lose my airing cupboard and don't know how I would manage without it !!

Airing cupboard....so 19th cent!

I've never seen the point. You pile up your nearly dried clothes and they are so dense, no airing goes on at all!

You've got a point there Dea....

....I drove to work, went in the wrong direction and when I tried to 'get' where I was going..........it had turned into a 'no left turn'

Dea

Dea Report 1 Oct 2013 19:26

See - I knew that's what had happened !!! ;-) :-D :-D :-D

Never mind - tomorrow is another day <3 <3 <3

Oh my goodness Persie what a mess. Why does your HWC only last 5 years when we put our combi boiler in the HWC must have been over 30 years old :-)

Wish I had seen that workmans face I bet he never heard that before and probably won't hear it again :-D

Cynthia I too love my combi boiler. The summerhouse sounds lovely x

Gins sons ;-) Bet you are looking forward to working nearer to home x

I am cooking a HUGE pot of chilli to freeze for my party the smell is making me hungry :-)

Persephone Report 2 Oct 2013 06:54

Not sure about your maths Linda but our HWC was bought about 1992 and lasted til 2013 so would say it is over 21 years.. I think they are supposed to last about 15.. so we are not complaining about that..

Now Breakfast shortly ..

Good morning all.. :-D

Lovely breakfast Persie, thank you. The porridge please with, maybe, a little bit of French toast to follow....... :-D <3

Haven't had an airing cupboard for a long, long time. I must admit though, I did like the walk-in cupboards - not so much for airing, more for storage space :-D

I still like to 'air' clothes if I can - simply to take the dampness of the steam iron out of them. In the summer, I pop ironed sheets back on the washing line and, in the winter, I put them over a radiator for a short while.

There was an old lady I used to visit who had one of those pull up and down airers in her back room. Are they making a comeback? Very farmhouse'y'. :-D

Glad you are making a stand Gins......but do sit down, you make the place untidy with all that standing around!!!!

My workman is due back soon and I have brother and sister-in-law calling later. We only see them once every Preston Guild so we will go out for lunch. :-)

Back later ~~~~

Dea

Dea Report 2 Oct 2013 08:58

Those haul up, bring down racks.... the name is Sheila's Maid. (Kirsty out of Kirsty and Phil has one)

My mother had a wooden fold out airer and when she put the clothes on it we would play tents underneath the clothes.. it used to make this terrible noise like a cat with its tail caught when you unfolded it.. it eventually wore itself out and I bought a replacement.. didn't last long... I still use it but I have to keep putting the legs back on...they are no longer available to purchase.

My daughter has her MIL's one.. I spotted it on her back deck the other day.. she has had it for ages and only just started using it... now if I knew that I would have nicked it before she could like it. It is in perfect order.

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 2 Oct 2013 20:31

Yes, well. There's gaffs and then there's gaffs Gins. ;-)

Google image has loads of pictures of wooden clothes horses - traditional type. :-D

Thought i had posted something this afternoon???? Here I go again then.

OH had told me that we were meeting his brother & wife at a local hostelry at 1 pm. They live 'down South' and were travelling 'up North'.

I was pootling around when the doorbell rang. I opened the door, expecting a delivery of pills or something, and there they were my bother and sister-in-law........standing on the doorstep!!

Apparently, his brother had told HIS wife that they were meeting us here..... :-S

Once I recovered from the shock, we went out and had a very nice lunch. We never stay out too long but it was a pleasant change. :-D

My little sunhouse is now almost finished and looks good!

Just back from a meeting so now going for a browse!! ~~~

:-)
