Re the other thread Fans - You didn't miss anything - you wouldn't have wanted to see it.

It was VERY nasty and I am pleased it has gone.

We would not have wanted to 'drag it' onto here !!

I have not a lot to say..All the family I managed to see are all Hunky Dory and grandkids liked their belated Christmas prezzies.

Gotta go back in about 4 weeks so will see all that I missed then..Maybe..

Fans

what do the grandkids call you?

Nain or Grandma??????????

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 14 Jan 2011 20:36

Oh,nearly forgot..As if.

Eldest grandson went in the inter schools poetry comp last year aged 7 and came runner up..Funny really cos thats what nephew did 10 yrs ago...

Anyhow, this was his poem and itas been published in a book of all the best poems submitted and he showed me it last night ,I had to get the tissues out when he wasnt looking..

Death
....................................................
The time when the grave will be filled
Tears drop to the ground
They will never see him
Sad
Tears
Love
Bye

I asked him why he chose that subject and he shrugged his shoulders and said he just wanted to.

Later his mum said that not long before he wrote it he had lost one of his schoolfriends...

...I am GrannyViv....I wanted to be Viv or Mamgu..(Pronounce Mamgee) but kids didnt like it and Nain is North Wales word for grandma..Mamgu for my area.

They have so many Nannys, grandmas ,nanna etc..it was best to put Viv on the end so we know who they are talking of..

Lots of Greatgrandparents still alive too.

aw Fans, that's beautiful, and so sad

Dea

Dea Report 14 Jan 2011 20:42

Fans,

It is good that he can let his feelings out about the loss of his friend - even though he does not admit that that is the case.

I used to let my feelings out by poetry too - not always very good but it helped me to get through the difficult times.

Just be thankful he has this 'outlet' - many others don't and keep it all in which is NOT a good thing to do.

Congratulate him on the poem and don't ask too many questions !!

ah

so that is why OH called his grandma Nain ..... they were from North Wales. She was born in Denbighshire.

her husband was a Methodist minister, on the North Wales circuit .... as a result, they moved every 3 years! He'd earlier completed a 7-year apprenticeship as a cabinet maker, but then went to the Methodist college in Manchester, where he met Nain.

That's wonderful Fans

My Mum was Nanny Bubbles because when she gave son a bath she always blew bubbles and when he was 2 was asking for more bubbles but the name stuck. Now son is adult she is Nan Nephews call Mum Grandma very formal but that was on their mothers insistent now though that they are adults they too call her Nan

I want to be a Nanny Bubbles too

Sylvs,

How can you eat lunch when it is nearly bedtime and pitch black out there ???

It is REALLY strange, this time difference isn't it ??

When you think back, before 'the internet', we would not be quite so aware !!

Happy lunch-time, Nite nite

See you in 'my' morning just before you go to bed !!
