I have an old pound note with the first A01 number series on it - I am told it is worth something ??

Can anyone tell me ??

I have always been into british money, mum collected coins mainly for their silver content up until the 1940s. I have a collection of notes from the 1920s to when they stopped the £1 note but no white fivers

I was a bank cashier for years and people would bring in old notes to exchange which we should'nt have done, but if I wanted them I would buy them from them. I have some A01s too doubt if it is worth that much yet, depends who wants to buy it

When valuing notes and coins they have to be in mint condiion to get the best prices. Used notes are not worth that much. However there is always exceptions depending on the rarity.

OH is obsessive. If we were starving he wouldn't sell. Even now he empties any coins out of my purse and sorts it into what we can spend and what he wants to save. He has roman coins as well as up to date stuff. He buys straight from the treasury over here and the royal mint on the mainland

It's great meeting an old friend and the conversation is as if you had always been in touch

Dea my OH has a £1 coin, which he received in his change, that is worth £5. It is a special edition and slightly thiner than usual. I thought it was a fake and took it to the treasury who confirmed that it was real.

So don't dismiss your mint condition £1 note

My dad used to collect coins and stamps..quite a collection it was too. Got a bit obsessive if you ask me.


I know what you mean Toots...I have friends I only see maybe four times a year but we can pick up the conversation as though we had been together yesterday. Great stuff.

I have a Crown ,a Half crown, a florin and a silver threepenny piece..

11 years and it was like last week...Fan...........tastic.

I have sold a few old £1 notes 1940/50s I think not sure where my book is now. got £3 to £4 each for them and still have at least £40 of that batch left.
Dad also worked as a cashier and someone found a load of old money in a dead rellies house so bought it in so dad and I had half each to get rid of.
