I wonder why JCs mum told her not to come??

Maybe she has enough to cope with already with feeling not to good?

I think I will stop there.;)

BTW,When my mother had an op a couple of years back she didnt want me there either..;)

Nope not me,but they flew their employees wife from Poland to look after her(and cook and clean for dad)....Poor Mrs B...But maybe best as she didnt speak a word of English nor understand it,lucky for her.;)

Har har. My mum would *love* to have me there -- and I'd love to be there.

Too much work here (I don't get to say "sorry, my mum needs me" -- there are no benefits and no consideration for the contract worker), and too little money, I fear. I know that doesn't make sense, but it's how it is just now ...

Thank you Sylvs.......sounds like you have had a nice time with friends.

Janey, it does make sense you know - hope you manage to strike a good balance of things so that your life evens out a bit.

One can quite understand the sentiments of Mrs Fans snr. At least there would be peace and quiet in the house with the nice Polish lady around :P

Dear OH has kindly passed his cough onto moi. SO generous of him..........not. I know we promised to share things at our wedding, but this I could do without....lol Hey ho. Such is life.

Beautiful day here so my new washing machine will be put into action once more. I may even do some..

The mum was up emailing at 3 a.m. when one of her cats woke her up for some reason. Fortunately I'd dropped her a line before leaving the office at midnight.

doctor joke I sent her

a guy tells a doctor, I have a strawberry up my bum,
and the doctor replies: 'oh!, I've got some cream for that'

If my employers thinks I am going to be an overnight guest in the home of a strange man on the night of the census they have another thing coming. What will future generations think?

Don't know if I've ever mentioned, but my brother has lived in Tokyo for the past 20 years or so, and I go visit as often as I can and Japan's a place I love dearly.

Spent a few very fraught hours this morning trying to contact him. He eventually sent an email from his iphone saying he was OK (strangely he couldn't make calls but could get emails through). He's OK, but quite possibly homeless as large cracks have appeared in his apartment and bits are dropping off. His wife is stuck over the north side of Tokyo at work and is probably just staying put for safety and lack of transport. Brother is just going to try and find shelter for the night.

We've got a few good friends not accounted for - one of them had just moved to the coast near Chiba, we're worried most about him. Hopefully, it's just a case of he can't make contact because comms are down.

Brother says most of their stuff trashed as it all fell to floor, but it is just stuff after all.

I've been in an earthquake over there, but it was only 6.5 - that was scary but today's was something else. I also lost friends in the 2004 earthquake there - the epicentre was close to SiL's home town. I went a few month's later and her family's house was only one standing in the street.

Have been in touch with friends in parts of Japan today, thankfully they were all as well prepared as you can be. The 7.1 earthquake 2 days ago had given them a hint of what might be coming.

What a worry for you MC but I am so glad your brother and sister-in-law are safe. Yes, stuff is just stuff - lives are so much more precious. I hope you have good news about your friends too.
