Hi All

Can some one tell me please
my Grandfather was born BELFAST County Antrim Northern Ireland -- his father was in the RI Dragoon Guards -- the tailor ---I am having certs from my sisters for birthday presents -- and would like a copy of his birth cert

I have checked the FMP military births for GRO ref -- but cannot find it

Where will I go to find the GRO reference please

William Gillett --- consistantly shows 1854 on Census BELFAST County Antrim Northern Ireland

Death of William Joseph Gillett aged 59 on 23 / 10 / 1913
Colliery Carpenter..

so also ties in with death cert

I thought Belfast was in Northern Ireland ie part of UK -----

isnt that a link for Ireland . ---being Southern Ireland

or are they not two separate countries for Birth Cert purposes

Civil registration commenced in 1864 but many Irish records were destroyed in 1922.

-one of the web pages I looked at said Copies of birth cert from 1864

so fink you maybe correct

Looks like you wont get a birth cert for him unfortunately Renes...Maybe a baptism...

Edits...Yea,Maura is hot on Irish stuff,so Is another lady whose board name is Goerinbrough(I think)
Think they hang out most on Records board if you want to post for help with it on there?

Thats why I wasnt sure of the reg Fanny...I sent for a cert of 1869 and got a 'no'....but no explanation as to why

All records for Ireland used to be held in Dublin at the time of the easter rebellion in 1916 a large majority of the records were destroyed ... that is why so difficult to research after the North and South split into Northern and Southern Ireland records for the north were held in Belfast and the south in Dublin
