Theres not much on any of the censuses if you think about it but it will still be fab for decendants to have a copy anyhow....think how we'd feel

Leave them a copy you stinge merchants ;)

JB insisted on going down as British and he was about to put me as British...Im English and hes Welsh........grrrrrrrrr

Ginns - I think I would actually be disappointed !!

They are going to destroy the written copies once they have put it on Computer so all there will be on there is name, address, dob, last occupation, whether you are ill, or not, and that's about it really ??

Funny you should bring that thread up Gins.....I often see replies from him when I'm doing my rounds. He mainly seems to ask questions rather than post anything useful and his own threads seem a bit muddled. I actually think.....if I remember correctly.....that he was one of the original gold star people when the help clinic first started......makes one wonder...really it does!!

Just looked at the 2011 census form and realised that when the information is released into the public domain in 2111 it will not be anywhere as helpful to future genealogists or family historians as the census results that we currently have available to us today. In fact I would go as far as to say it will be of virtually no use whatsoever.

First name and Surname only.

No actual place of birth other than the country.

If married, no length of time married to current spouse.

No indication of how many children born/alive/died.

All of which will be a great help to finding anyone with a common surname, not!

About the only fact that might help identify someone is the date of their birth but even that won't be easy.

Unless you knew for certain that in 2011 your John Smith was born in England on 1/4/1942, was in a registered same-sex civil partnership, was white, spoke English very well, was in good health, lived in a rented terraced house with 4 rooms and gas fired central heating, owned a car, had not moved house in the past 12 months, was a Buddhist, had passed only 3 GCSE's, was now retired but used to be a tyre fitter then your chances of positively identifying him are going to be slim to say the least.

I realise that the prime purpose of a census is not to help family historians trace their ancestors but asking some more pertinent questions and a few less, probably irrelevant, ones might have fulfilled both the needs of the current government and future generations.

Jax the Thai girl is just a farmville neighbour. I needed more so that I could fly away to my English farm today. Sad I know.

Well my family tree is a league of nations, we have English, Scottish, Irish, Welsh, Manx and when I add OH's in Italian, American.

I always thought I was the first to settle over here but my 4xgreat grandmother was born in the north of the island in 1819
