R

can't find his service record. There is another Alexander Hill, of Ballymena, Antrim ....... and there are 2 sets of service records for him. But he was killed in 1918, his regiment and regimental number were different and his mother's initials were Mrs. S J Hill. I think this is just coincidence!

This is your Alexander's death as recorded on the ancestry records

UK, Soldiers Died in the Great War, 1914-1919

Name: Alexander Hill
Birth Place: Ballymoney, Co. Antrim
Death Date: 16 Aug 1917
Death Location: France & Flanders
Enlistment Location: Ballymoney
Rank: Private
Regiment: Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers
Battalion: 8th Battalion
Number: 16448
Type of Casualty: Killed in action
Theatre of War: Western European Theatre

and this one:-

Ireland, Casualties of World War I, 1914-1918

Name: Alexander Hill
Regiment: Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, 8th Batt
Regiment Number: See Image
Rank: See Image
Death Date: 16 Aug 1917
Death Place: France
Birth Place: Ballymoney, Northern Ireland

Clicking on the image takes you to an image of a page in Ireland's Memorial Records (p. 142) .... which looks as though it is an alphabetical listing of all Irish casualties of WW1. It gives the same information as you had.

and that seems to be that!

Hope that helps

Just walked through the front door and the phone was ringing. It was to let me know that my poorly friend's husband died about an hour ago. He's the one who had the stroke last week........the other son is coming up from London and they are going to tell their mum together tomorrow. Whether she will take it on board is questionable.

I had already made the decision that if he didn't survive the stroke, I wouldn't go to his funeral but will go and sit with my friend instead. It's the least I can do.

Just going to watch the Boat Race.....C'mon Oxford!!!

My heart goes out to you and your beloved friend --- as you said --- let his sons do their duty - for their father

and as you planned --- give all your strength to your friend --- she will be comforted by you there
