And I'm sure all that was just so you could boast about magnolia trees!

Serious offer -- did I say once before? I could send you a baby catalpa tree to replace the cut-down cherry. They grow 2-3 feet a year, and by five years have the most stupendous flowers. I usually have a few new ones growing in the spring, volunteers from the long bean-ish seed pods.

What book were you referring to on fb? I looked and couldn't see a reference. Like I read books anyway ..

I can't imagine having only one email account! I think I have about 20 at gmail. ;) (You can get mail to one forwarded to another, so I don't have to check them all regularly.)

jax, not a bad idea -- a fb page would be better than this here for certain purposes.

Just not a public one. ;)

Never mind S, I spotted the book ref -- re Henrietta Lacks, interesting.

I st up my email address over 10 years ago with help from a male customer in the pub I used to run as I was not getting on with husband and wanted to do online banking. It was a good job too as I found out he had taken a large sum of money and put it into his own account.....I left soon after lol

I left my office work place almost 20 years ago before computers were a part of everyday life so I am not very computer literate....but am learning.

I would think if you (JC) invited people to be friends then chat would be confined to friends only??

You still have the two accounts use the 1st one

Ah, but I don't do "friends" at fb. ;)

I just don't want to appear in any lists of names, even as my "name".

Would you like to have a gmail account? It can be really handy and it's also permanent, you never have to worry about not getting mail from somewhere if you change your ISP. And you can have mail sent to gmail forwarded to your "real" account anyhow.

I could set you one up in a jiffy if you wanted. It is so easy to use. It's really a good thing to have for giving out to people and places you just don't want to give your real name/email address to.

I'm off for supper now too -- beef stew, in my case. Spent all weekend chopping and cooking and chopping and cooking and restocking the freezer. Unfortunately, I always forget that once it's chopped, it has to be cooked, and I prefer the chopping part. I was the same with sewing ... the number of cut out garment bits I have in bags in closets that never got sewn into garments ...

I have knitted bits in drawers and bags in the closet that need sewing up into garments!

OH does a good job of making dinner!

Ye, JC, you did indeed offer me a Catalpa tree ..... problem here is that all our wires are above ground .................. phone, cable, you name it

and anything that grows that fast that tall would have to be continually cut back as we have wirings front, back and side.

There was an English walnut tree in the corner of the back garden when we bought the house, looked a very strange shape, but it did produce.

Then we realised why it was such a shape ................ the wires.

We eventually had it chopped down about 20 years ago .................. OH had to keep butchering the top.

so, thanks but no thanks!

Catalpa does grow well here .... it makes a lovely tree when it has room. There is a wonderful avenue of them out at the university. Like walking through a tunnel at certain times of the year!

Quite proud of myself, and think I ought to be getting a comp copy of that book myself ...

I never understand these sqm spaces. My friend in NZ has mentioned them in her house sizes.

When I went to Australia many years ago I stayed with my cousin, his house was one storey but under this house was a "Rumpas room" large garage with washing machine ect...plenty of room to put the cars but such a slope would be difficult getting out I would think?

I have a garage with this house but there is no way my Jeep would fit in it even if I wanted it to

I love the history aspect of it ............though I'm very much a learner re Canadian history

all Australian and NZ houses are measured on multiples of 1 sqm ........ so a house can be 10 sqm

here, we work on multiples of sq ft, so a house is advertised as 1,000 sq feet

jax

jax Report 28 Mar 2011 04:37

We work in room sizes e.g lounge 12 ft x 18ft bedroom 1 13ft x 12ft plus all the other room sizes except bathroom garden 60ft x 30ft

So feet or metres for a whole space is lost with me

it helped living down there for a year, then the 2 months we spent in NZ ............... I used to look at the ads in the real estates agents windows, and in the appers, and I got used to seeing it.

I don't really know what 1 msq is, except 1 m x 1 m ..... but I can't visualize the size of a room in my mind.

I do know that below a certain x msq, a room would be small, and above it is getting large!

We use room sizes here, as you do ............. but the total footage of the house would be given in so many thousand sq ft

eg, 5,000st ft, living room 15' x 20', master bedroom 10' x 15'

or you sometimes see the phrase "entertainment sized living room"

jax

jax Report 28 Mar 2011 05:07

I have never seen a total footage of a house in this country, just individial room sizes plus garden size.

I remember my friend writing to say they had bought a property with so many sq mtetres, I had no idea and still do not but I assume its quite big after I google mapped where she lived

Thank you Sylvs....my toast went cold whilst I was catching up on last night's conversation. You all had your talkative heads on, that's fer sure!

Seems like I have beaten Dea to breakfast this morning......maybe she is having a lie in after losing an hour's sleep at the weekend.

It's foggy here........wonder if it could be a heat mist??? :))

Got an autism meeting this morning so must go and get organised.

I am here Cynthia.

It took me ages to go through last night's posts !!!

Then, I had some of Sylvia's lovely breakfast.

Then, I had to go an search the net for pictures of lemon trees !!

I sent Renes a picture of my grand-daughters lovely lemon tree that she started off from a seed last year.

Renes agreed that it was beautiful but said that it didn't look like any lemon tree that she had ever seen !

She is right - I have looked at lots of pictures but none look anything like our tree ???................ Very strange ??

I know it was a lemon seed because we took it out of the lemon with our very own hands !

Anyway, it is still beautiful but I will be interested to see what happens to it next.

But really you are friends with GR on thier page so whats the difference with us?

EXACTLY Ja...x..!

Just what I have always thought...But of course some people have strange ways of thinking....But I quite like the chat online facility on FB as I can tell people to ...err..Get lost.?..and when you click off its all gone and no record left of the conversation..
My friends list is getting smaller though..:)

Cant be bothered to catch up on the last few pages before this,so will remain in ignorant bliss of all that...
