Marilyn that just goes to show you that some of the real cockney slang has been changed from the original Barnet Fair is right Hair. Boat Race - Face Bottle and Glass- the a.... B ristol Cities Tities Fife and drum, - Bum Losf of Bread is the same as Brown Bread, -Head. North and South- Mouth. Mince Pies - Eyes, Jimmie Riddle- having a tiddle,. Hampstead Heath - Teeth.
The others I dont know as some of the names were after the original slang like Douglas Hurd,. Gregory Peck and J A Rank , Eartha Kit so I have no idea where they came from or what they mean I can guess a couple but not to put in print lol It poured with rain about 4 today it fell down it was pitch black as well needed to put the lights on. see what Mo comes up with tomorrow,.

what I was saying Marlyn , when they use names like Douglas Hurd he was not around when the cockney slang first started in the days when the Pearly Kings and Queens were just that rulers of their plot.
I heard someone say marilyn Munroe once well she was not born then or Gergory Peck.nor Earha Kit do you see what i mean ? some names have been sliped in. Like Lional Blairs meaning Flairs (trousers ) well he was not around at that time dont forget we are going way back. so most are oringal but not all of them are the true slangs.

You lot crack me up lol, can you imagine if you all met up and tried to talk in rhyming slang.
I had a fella once who came from Dunstable but knew lots of the talk and he used to say Brown bread meant dead!

Morning All you lovely friends.
I have been reading and learning as l go along with you lot. Marlyn your book does it go into how the slang came about or any thing else like that ?
In Finchley Cemetery there is a statue a grave of a Henry Croft (think that is how it is spelt ) he died in 1930 born 1862 or there about. He was a road sweeper when he came out of an Orphange and worked in the Market. and reading about him he was the one who started off the pearly Kings and Queens in London . The Costermongers as they were known then later became know as Barrow Boys. were supose to have been born in the sound of St Mary-le-bow in Cheapside (I found some of this out when researching my late husbands family ancestors.) The slang came by these costamongers as they wanted to tell each other things secretly like the Beaks are coming things like that . They started to wear brightly coloured clothes called them Flash they decorated there outfits with pearl buttons on their trousers they had bright coloured waistcoates and always wore muffles or scarfs if you like. which made them stand out from others.. This Henry Croft went further and started doing pearl patterns on the suits and clothes it was this that made him famous as he got to make money for charity. hospitals the poor families this was in the eightteenth century. Evenntually every London bourough in London had a pearly King or Queen.. That was why the statue was errected on Henry Croft Grave. This cemetery is not far from where my sister lives.
So if anyone knows anything else I would like to know.
Rita.

Right that out of the way, I am going to a strawberry tea this afternoon being held in the grassy lawns of the local church. by Goldsworth Care they shop and do errands and take you to and from the hospitals or doctors if you are not able to get there or shop for yourselve through illness.. The invite all the people on their lists and if you are not able to get there they drive you. I think that is such a nice thing to do. Then I have to do my packing ready for going to my sisters wednesday she meets me at Waterloo Station. so I am hoping we get decent weather no rain so I can go about and do some more research. I want to have a look at this new Mosque they have spoken about in Ealing (Wembley ) If Highate cemetery is open I shall have a stroll around there but it only opens so many days of the year.it is where Carl Marx is buried.and other famous. people but it is also a place they were buried from St Pancras areas as well. so we will see. I have nothing else planned for today.

Hi Everyone,
Something funny happened today. I went to see my Dad and he said somebody has put this through my door.A piece of paper with two names on it. nothing else !! Now someone obviously is trying to trace their family tree because one name is the same as my Dads (JOHNSON ) now why the hell there is no contact is a mystery, now my dad is very deaf and don't always answer the door. Guess who the man on the piece of paper ???? said Bruce Joseph Forsyth JOHNSON B 22nd feb aged 82yrs..... Now this I think is our one and only BRUCE FORSYTH. So I did a bit of research and yes he married Anthea REDFERN 1973 Berkshire and he married her in the name Bruce Joseph Forsyth JOHNSON
I never knew he was called JOHNSON........ So I might be famous ..LOL, better not talk Slang anymore ...LOL
So The other person on the bit of paper could have been his sister because there is no surname about the same age as Bruce .
Now I'm going to wait and see who put this in my Dads door hopefully.....
Rita have a lovely time with your sister, bet she will be pleased with her prezzie.
I had a lovely lunch and ended on my sisters sons farm.
