Mel Fairy Godmother Report 7 Dec 2017 10:17

Morning all,

Windy here today and the sun has just rried to come out after a murky start with a little light rain.

Have heard from my cousin in the USA again this morning and its so lovely to be in touch after all these years.

Have to get ready to go up for my flu jab so be back later.

:-D

Shot up to the post van and met it coming down our way from Shebbear. He stopped so I asked him if he could take an Air Mail card. He said it would be ok tomorrow but I said I may not be here tomorrow. He said it would be £2.27 and I looked in my purse and I had it so he took the card for me and the money and said he would do it at his next stop. He said he had done a lot of letters to the USA today so thats how he knew how much it would be.

Frank Report 7 Dec 2017 12:37

Afternoon all,

Can't seem to get going today. When Ros came to bed last night she left the lounge door open. Who should decided to come and lay down beside me. "BIGGLES" I didn't know he was there, about 4.00 am Ros heard him shake himself and his name tag rattled. He wouldn't move, so she had to pick him up and carry him back to the lounge.

Ros has made a couple of dozen sausage rolls and taken them to Stitchery Do. She never even left one for me. :-P :-P :-P

How long does the flea treatment liquid last ?? I still have a file of it in the kitchen cupboard. !! If it's any good I will give it to Harvey.

I am going to get myself a bowl of soup for lunch wing a slice of bread. I have done Shin of beef in the casserole. Potatoes done as is the cabbage and carrots. Ros has asked me to stop doing so much veg. So see what she thinks of this. !!!

Afternoon all

Just waiting for my mum to turn up so thought I'd come on here while I wait.

You do make me laugh Frank, I read your post about you giving the flea treatment to Harvey, WHY??? DOES HE HAVE FLEAS ??? lol lol ;-) ;-) Only joking, I assume it's for his pet.

That was lucky bumping into the post man on your travels Mel, that will save you a trip to post your card to the USA. I'm pleased to hear you're in contact with a long lost cousin.

I had a quick look at my tree last night and managed to find all 17 children for a couple I was having problems with. Only 9 survived according to the 1911 census so finding the other's took me quite a while. That last one was the worse to find as her mother's maiden name was mis-spelt, plus she was one of the ones who had passed away before the 1911 census. Luckily she was born where one of her sibling's was born and died where the next one after her was born, (they had moved location) she was also buried in the same place as another sibling, so there was no doubt she was the correct and final child to find.
All I need to do now is find the surviving children's spouses and children......wish me luck ;-)

Their parents moved about a bit so I'm hoping it's not the same with their children so it makes it easier to find their families. OH is pleased with all his relatives I've found. I'm almost finished with his mum's side now, then I'll take another look at his dad's side.

I still haven't caught up with the posts yet, so will try and do that today. Sandra has asked for a chili for dinner tonight ,so I'll be making that once mum has gone home.

See you all later <3

Mum's left she had some bad news while she was here, my uncle was rushed into hospital and is now unconscious it looks like it's just a matter of days now. I hate cancer. I'm so upset and feel like crying, he's such a lovely man. My aunt is in bits as you can imagine and to top it all off OH has got another chest infection so is back on antibiotics. Not a good time for us at the moment. :-( :-(

Frank Report 7 Dec 2017 16:15

Gill, you poor little thing, one thing on top of another. Thinking of you and the family. xxx

Thanks for your cards. Roa has put my birthday one away.

I did have to smile when I read your post about Harvey having fleas. LOL LOL Yes I did mean for his cats

I have tried sticking my "T" cack on the keypad with super glue, only to get it stuck to my finger. :-( :-(

Ros has finally finished wrapping presents. They has a nice time at stitchery, with all the women bringing lots of nibbles, fruit and DRINK. As Ros doesn't drink she had COT.

I have felt like a bag of whats it today. No energy and any get up and go. IT'S GONE.

I was asleep in the armchair at 11,00 am this morning, considering I wasn't up before 8.00 am. This shouldn't happen.

Dark horrible night out there, so I am glad I am staying in tonight.

Anne Report 7 Dec 2017 16:39

Gill I'm so sorry to hear about your Uncle being so ill and how upsetting and sad for your Auntie and the rest of the family. Do they have any children? Something like this always seems worse this time of the year. Your poor OH having another chest infection hopefully it will soon get better with the antibiotics.

Jane not nice with the central heating not working our next door neighbour had the same problem last week so I lent her a heater which we have in the conservatory. we do have a radiator in there but when it's really cold we do use it.

Mel how lucky catching the postman in time, I had to pop out really early to post one of my great niece's 6th birthday card as the only post collection is 9am and her birthday is on Sunday.

Frank you are going to miss Biggles when he goes home, crafty boy getting on your bed it shows how much he loves you <3 <3.

Had the Sainsbury delivery today so we and the pets are ok for the week. I'm doing a stir fry this evening which is nice and easy.

Afternoon All

Oh Gill I am sorry to hear about your Uncle. If it is just a matter of days I hope he passes away peacefully .It always seems worse at this time of year .You must all be terribly upset and just waiting for the inevitable now.
OH has just got over a chest infection and now another !. Does the Dr have any idea why he keeps getting them? Lets hope it will soon clear and well in time for Xmas.

Thanks for Xmas cards I received today :-D My little GR table is filling up :-D

Well Mandy I tried turning off the pump and everything now is as dead as a Dodo :-S :-S
I have a horrible feeling we might have to fork out for a new boiler :-| I hope not though ,as I bet there will be a wait to have a new one put in. Probably in January !!!.
The logs arrived when it was pouring with rain this morning ,so Chris covered them with a tarpaulin until it stopped . They are now all stacked away and a couple of baskets full in the garage. Thomas has taken a liking to the little oil radiator and lies in front of it. I reckon he thinks it is just for him :-D

Frank,is that the first time Biggles had sneaked onto your bed in the night? Bless him .He just wanted to cosy up :-D
Flea treatment lasts a month and worm tretment for 3 months(that is for a cat)I imagine it is the same for dogs. Yes does Harvey have fleas??? :-D :-D

I have been for a haircut this afternoon .Had a glass of wine and a shortbread while Nigel did my hair. There is a new girl at the salon. This was her second day and she washed my hair.Very good she was too. But I think she had to stand on a step at the back of the sink as she is so small.
Chris is off for a Council meeting in a bit. It starts at 6 .I said the car park might be busy as it is late night Xmas shopping tonight. I forgot he was going. He's not looking forward to it as last time there was no new info on the new builds around us.It may well be the same again tonight :-S
I have a ready meal for him when he gets back,James has a ready Curry and I have no idea what I am having. I think it might be eggs. There is a Chilli Beef and Rice in the fridge but I dont really fancy that.

Fire needs another log. I looks like we could get a bit of snow tomorrow. Gill it looks like you may get some too. Hopefully enough for Sandra to make that long awaited Snowman :-D :-D

Frank Report 7 Dec 2017 17:17

Our heating is going full blast, but I am still feeling chilly. I have just put a jumper on.

Just put the veg on, so dinner won't be long.

Home ALONE tonight, so have got the T.V. to myself. I've recorded her soaps. !!!

Bit chilly rounds the LUG HOLES then Jane. How small is that girl ?? because aren't very big are you. TALL I MEAN LOL LOL. (SORRY COULDN"T STOP MYSELF ) I have smacked my legs.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 7 Dec 2017 17:38

I hope those legs arn't still stinging Frank!

Thanks to Gill and Sandra for your lovely card just my sort of thing in the right colours for me. Thanks to to Jane for the lovely puss cat who does look a bit like Thomas.

So sorry to hear about your uncle Gill and why do these things always seem to come at Christmas and poor Glynn with another chest infection. Hope the meds kick in quickly for him. It may be all the stress he is under at the moment.

Well I managed to moss one ring today and do a little of the yellow stuff which goes around the edge and in the middle. I also went over the back forest and got some evergreen which may replace the fluffy stuff I usually use as there dos'nt seem to be any of that blown off the trees down the forest this year. I am usually lucky and we have a strong wind about this time and htere's plenty fallen off the trees.

We had our flu jabs and oh has to go in the morning for a blood test as his last one was in June.

I think I will do a big dish of mixed veg in the oven and chuck some Cumberland sausages in with them so that will do for tonight.

Jane did you see Detectorists last night? Its the last one next week.

Jane

Jane Report 7 Dec 2017 17:49

Thats right Frank.....tell me about your heat blasting away :-P We are fine here so far but as the temperature is going down to below zero I think we might not be so warm. The lounge is fine with the fire and the hall with the oil rad. It will be the kitchen ,utility and loo out by the back porch that will be freezing .Having an integral garage just off the kitchen doesnt help .I have the doorstop roll jammed up as tight as possible against the door to the garage.

Smack your legs indeed Frank ! Cheeky ;-) The young girl (called Sky) who washed my hair must be about 4ft.She was a lovely girl and I think she will do well .Just needs to gain a bit of confidence .But after only 2 days there I thought she did really well.
I took a nice bottle of Red Wine for Nigel as I dont tip him (being the boss) and put a nice tip in the juniors Xmas box. When they close before Xmas the tip box is shared out between all the juniors. Nigel is having a Xmas party at his house on Saturday for ALL his staff. We are talking a BIG PARTY .He must have at least 20 staff. It will be a right boozy do.

Jane

Jane Report 7 Dec 2017 18:55

I did watch the Detectorists Mel, but thought it was a bit boring last night. Hopefully the final one next week will be them finding the treasure :-D Hope the Magpie hasnt nicked it all LOL
Flu jabs done then Mel .I havent had one since Chris retired. He would bring 2 injections home and we injected eachother .
Mixed veg and sausages sound good. I prefer Lancashire rather than Cumberland Sausages.
James has just got home so I will have a quick chat and see how his day has been before he eats..... put that on hold he is dishing up already LOL
Now Chris has just arrived. I just heard hm say what a waste of 'fuffing' time . No developers turned up!!!!!!! AGAIN

Evening All,

So sorry to hear your news Gill. What a tough time you are having! Your poor OH too getting another chest infection. I hope it clears up quickly for him.

I had more cards to add to mine today too so thank you! :-)

Jane, have you checked the pilot light hasn't blown out on your boiler? It has been windy recently. What a nightmare losing your heating just when a cold snap is due! :-| You can heat the kitchen with your oven on low with the door of it left open. I remember mum doing that at times. I can see you undressing by the log burner tonight and then dashing upstairs!! My hairdresser always has a big party for his staff at christmas and hands out various awards to his staff. He's also pledged £10.000 a year to the RSPCA here. I notice their new trend is in hairpainting so must ask my hairdresser about it next time.

It's a good idea to watch Max's weight Mandy. I have read that Labs can be a bit greedy and will pinch any food if they can. :-)

I didn't like Kirstie's first prog of the new series, but hopefully it will get better.

It was busy with a few Christmas parties at Ullesthorpe Court where we had lunch today, but they had reserved us a table away from the rest. Because of the parties the carvery had all the trimmings and a bigger selection of veg than usual and was delicious!

OH has gone to some trust meeting tonight so I am adding some baubles to the Christmas tree. I hate all the boxes lying about so need to get it done now. Beading is at my friend with the Maine Coon cat tomorrow so should be entertaining!

We are having massive hailstone at the moment and they are making a terrible noise on the plastic roofing.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 7 Dec 2017 19:29

£10,000 to the RSPCA WOW he must be doing well. I am sorry but I would'nt give anything to the RSPCA after they took all my animals away when I was down here at mums. All my rabbits and cats and I could'nt get any of them back. I had left someone in charge of everything so I had'nt left any of them without food or water. For goodness sake it was a pet shop.

Gillx

Gillx Report 7 Dec 2017 19:37

Thanks everyone for your kind words, I've had a good cry and feel a bit better for it. I think you might be right Mel, OH's illness's are probably down to stress, what with his brother and now my uncle.

Sorry to hear your boiler isn't working Jane, I know what it's like. If you remember we had to have a new boiler around this time last year and it's no joke is it? Do you have a gas cooker? If you do turn all the gas rings on it'll soon heat up your kitchen, I do it when it's really cold as we don't have any radiators. in our kitchen, I then leave the door open and the heat goes into the living room. You'll be surprised how quickly the rooms warm up.

I think I've just heard Santa on his way around, he goes around the streets on a big float all lit up, Sandra has got her camera ready to take a photo. He didn't come down our street last year, so I hope he makes it this year for her.

I looked at the weather before and it looks like we might be getting some snow in the night and then more over the weekend, hopefully there'll be enough for Sandra's snowman.

Annx

Annx Report 7 Dec 2017 20:42

That's good not to bottle up your feelings Gill and I'm glad it has helped. This awful time won't go on for ever. I hope Sandra gets to see Santa and can take a photo!

Mel, he started from scratch with nothing, but saved each week from his wages which he gave to his nan to look after for him. Now he has 4 salons. He's hard working, expects a lot from his staff but looks after them really well, gives them lots of opportuntities and is very well respected. He wins hairdressing and business awards every year and his salons are immaculate and spotless. He isn't cheap though, and the girl who cuts my hair is a salon manageress, but was driving a Porsche even before she was promoted, so he pays his staff well He also goes into the local hospitals every year with some of his staff and onto the cancer wards to do free haircuts for the women with breast cancer to help boost their morale and confidence. How many hairdressing salons do that? I must admit I have been disappointed with the RSPCA in recent years. I don't want them spending what I give on some of the things they get involved in. I have also watched programmes where they take animals away from people already suffering dreadfully through falling on very hard times that are not their fault and it has almost been the last straw and left them alone and distraught to lose their animals, when really all they needed was some temporary support with their animals for a short time. There has to be a better way. When I do a new will I suspect they won't be in it anymore!!

Gillx

Gillx Report 7 Dec 2017 20:46

Pleased to say Ann Santa has just been and Sandra took a video of him. He stopped right outside our bungalow as the house across the road has five children living there and they wanted a photo with Santa, he was there for quite some time so Sandra is really pleased as she has a nice long video of him now. He even turned and waved to us as he went past.

Annx

Annx Report 7 Dec 2017 21:29

Oh how wonderful for her Gill! I expect she is absolutely thrilled and will be playing the video over and over!! :-) :-D All she needs now is enough snow tomorrow to build that snowman.......even a little one! If she does build one, tell her to get some photos! ;-) <3

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 7 Dec 2017 22:06

Ahh thats lovely she took a nice long video of Santa it must have made her day bless.

Can she watch her videos on her telly or the lap top?

Ann you said you did'nt think much of the new Kirstie program, neither did I. I thought the things were a bit past most people like the porcilain birds and I did'nt like the things in the tins and thought them a big child like. I liked watching the kids making the wrapping paper though but should think the eyes would have got in the way when using it.
