Hi LK

so glad to hear that you are progressing well ...... but you're right, 4 months with no pay is not fun!

Take care though

I live about an hour's drive away from Melbourne so not too far.

April can be beautiful, last year it was very warm and sunny. Over Easter this year we had lovely sunny days, when it is just nice to sit outside and not be too hot but the sun just warms you nicely, if that makes sense!

Sylvia, lol we were liek that when we went to London in 2000. We went in January and everyone told us it would be okay, it snowed, the room in a hotel was completely wet with moisture and there was only a column heater thing..I have never been as cold as I was then!

Where you are do you get snow?

SylviaInCanada Report 10 May 2011 04:14

Hi Grace

sorry, had a break for dinner ............ and to fill out the short form census, which then told us we had been selected to do the long version as well!

We're in Vancouver, on the coast. We're in what is termed Temperate Rain Forest ....................... so much rain in winter, and dry summers.

We do get snow, usually on 5-10 days during the winter, usually about 5-10 cm a time, and usually thawing by the next day

Vancouver is also much warmer than the rest of Canada

That sounds lovely Sylvia, the best of both worlds!

I like looking at the snow but I suspect it is not that much fun to live with for days at a time!

SylviaInCanada Report 10 May 2011 04:45

You only have to go about 100 km inland from here, and you get lots of snow that stays around for months.

OH's sister lives about 1200 km north of us (as the crow flies), she ahs snow from mid or late October to April, literally FEET of it!

Plus the temperatures are much much lower almost everyhwere else.

The lowest we've experienced was -42C, on a Christmas trip up to see her.

I don't like it that cold!!

It's a very pretty church, yes Yew trees are very traditional, I've heard it is bad luck to knock them down or break them.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 10 May 2011 06:35

it is indeed unlucky, Grace

This church is I believe quite unusual in that the circle is still almost complete ...... there are only one or two gaps where trees must have fallen.

This was the church that OH's family used to go to, and his parents are buried in the "new" graveyard which is outside the circle.

I didn't like either my parish church OR the vicar there!

Oh I dont think I would want an email everytime someone had post on here....but it looks like a waste of time then.

Wish they would do something about the living rellies board...
Pm'd a newbie to advise her to post her searching for living relatives of xyz born 1880s on the find ancestors board instead because she may get more help ect.

so she started a new one on the same board asking the same thing about another well dead person aghhh

Cynthia Report 10 May 2011 19:41

You just can't tell some people anything can you ja...x? Ah well.

Re the email thing, you won't get notified unless you have specifically clicked on the watch my thread thingey.

Has everyone gone on a coachtrip or summat???

Janey's made a good point to me on another thread.......my signature line makes it look as though I am researching my first dog......you are researching your cat and Sylvs is researching the church where she married.........lol :D

jax

jax Report 10 May 2011 19:49

I know I read it cyn had a little giggle.

I now know what the living rellies board is for now...Once you have posted on the find ancestors and recieved a lot of help with out saying thank you but keep adding to it with other requests...you then get upset because someone dares to say something about it...you then delete your thread and start one on the living board instead

That way if anyone is going to complain about manners it is done in private...sorted

SylviaInCanada Report 10 May 2011 19:59

we have massive flooding in several parts of Canada

we're OK here in BC, before you start getting worried!

But parts of Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Quebec are facing floods higher than they have ever seen ............... and the waters are still rising. We're talking water 4 -5' deep, and as high as 10' in some places.

The army has been sent to Manitoba and Quebec in an attempt to help with sandbagging, and rescuing people.

The levels are way higher than any seen before, or even predicted.
