Flooding sounds bad sylv :O

We have to keep watering the garden where we are. I think the worse floods in this part of the country were in 1953 where it affected the east coast and Canvey Island was hit bad (very near to me) but before my time

These floods are all rivers that are overflowing .............. partly as a result of melting snow, partly as a result of very heavy rains, and partly what I call "back flow" .................. high waters coming from other parts of the river system. That's sometimes coming north from the US, and sometimes from further north.

FBG FBG

Would you have anything useful to tell this guy about Neath records?

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.page/board/ancestors/thread/1267797

The thread isn't humongous. He can't afford certificates and is wondering about local records.

Hi everyone,

Flooding sounds bad Sylvia, we have had our share of that in our country this year, what a mess it causes and affects so many people.

JaneyCanuck Report 11 May 2011 01:28

I'll tell you I get tired of the stupid flooding.

Every damned spring it's the same thing.

The Red River floods in Manitoba and the Richelieu River floods in Quebec, and usually somebody's house is teetering on the brink for a while ... and that's all there is on CBC news for a week. I go out to get a coffee mid-morning, No.1 has got up and has the news on, and I say oh, it's still flooding ...

Do these people not figure it out?? Their rivers flood, for pete's sake. Why do we have to hear about it for weeks every spring?

Seriously. Where I live, we don't bother people with such repetitive dumbness. We had the earthquake last summer, that was a bit entertaining. Oh, and we did have that huge ice storm, but that shut down half of North America, and that was 20 years ago. And the odd blackout, ditto. We don't do it year after year, some sort of stupid spring ritual that everybody else has to gaze transfixed at on their teevees for a month.

My old co-vivant, the alcoholic cokehead, lived on the Mississippi for a few years after I put him on a bus and he fell off it on the Illinois side. He worked sandbagging one year. Why don't they just leave the sandbags there??

And I'll tell you, the east coast and its snow was getting up my nose this year too. Week after week, it's another snowstorm in New Brunswick or Nova Scotia, big whup, it snows in Canada!

There, I'm done.

re living people -- caught a thread on Chat (I think she's deleted it) from somebody who wanted to delete her post on LP because it had her email address in it. I'd noticed her name and two identical looking threads so I checked and one had been request-reviewed (because of the email address I assume -- now people who do that *are* the board police), so that's why she couldn't find it in her threads, I guess.

So I suggested she try FA instead, and sent her a bit of info by the bye.

So she did, and I just happened to see the thread, and lo and behold, now I've found a whole lot of stuff for her.

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.page/board/ancestors/thread/1267893

Should send that thread to management, I think.

Since the site management is paying no attention to LP, I'm thinking of posting threads saying Do not post here, post on FA, and maybe give those threads as cases in point.

Anybody want to play? ;)

By the way, I am coming up to 20,000 posts, and I expect a party.

At least FBG won't be able to steal that from me!

Hi Janey

problem is .............. the Manitoba flooding is NOT the usual Red River and Winnipeg and area this time

............ it's the Qu'Appelle and Assiniboine Rivers around Brandon and Portage La Prairie

jax Report 11 May 2011 01:50

I sent a pm to her last night asking her to remove her email address and noticed this morning it had request for review.

She replied to me saying she did not know how to remove it but I told her it does not matter as someone has reported it......It was not me by the way.

Have you noticed that someone has posted on the living board after deleting her thread I think maybe because you said something along the lines that" we are not typewriters with arms" or something like that JC

Anyway I sent her a pm not that it has been opened yet

Point me, jax, or give me the poster's name or something.

A Denise deleted the other day on FA after I noted her singular lack of acknowledgement. Her reply was "I am also paying to use the site" and that she'd order the certificate for the birth I'd pointed to -- without ever replying to my post with that info in it. Horrible little snot. I've saved that thread and I'm thinking of reposting it as one of my info threads. ;)

I just went out by myself and posted at LP. Don't post here, post at FA.

Well it's the truth.

I'm off to scrounge up some food and television.

I did'nt tell D*wn to delete her thread as I said I only said could she please remove the email address as stated in the guidelines...wonder if someone else told her to remove the thread then reported it?

I know a couple of people who patrol for email addresses. I advise against posting one if it's one that reveals your identity -- name and location -- but the only reason to object to something like an anonymous hotmail email address is to make sure management gets its pounds if someone wants to make contact. And frankly, Scarlett, I don't give a you know what about that, and I just can't imagine why anybody else would!
