oh decisions, decisions, decisions. FMP has sent me an email offering me 20% off if I take out a subscription within the next 48 hours. I do like the site but have worldwide on Ancestry. Do I really need a subscription to both sites?

Your water cannot be that high Gins you live up north for a start...you sure it is'nt £60 a half year?

I have a swimming pool, not a posh one in the lounge like Jax had though. Mine is in the garden. Once filled it only needs the occasional top up to replace water that has evaporated so water rates not really adversely affected. I pay a similar figure to Ginny, just over £600 PA

Gee Report 4 Jun 2011 21:10

Up North Ja..x does not mean cheap you know....it depends where you live

I got the invoice out....£56.61 per month

Thats my water rates

Toots....if you really enjoy helping out on this site then, if you can afford it, I would say yes to both. You're good at research etc and you never know what people may need your advice with.

Oh that Watford Gap myth ja...x I know it's dearer to live in the south, but ever we poor Northerners have pretty big bills at times. Ours is just over half of what Gins pays.

re whirlpools

The motel where we stay en route to our cabin has got 2 rooms that have a whirlpool. In each one, the whirlpool is in the corner of the bedroom.

We just had to try it out the first time we were put in one of those rooms.

Pretty good!

Then the whirlpool started up of its own accord in the middle of the night!

It sounded pretty strange trying to work in an empty bath.

The other problem with them was that the water in that area has a strong sulphur smell to it, stronger some times than others.

so the bedroom had a strong sulphurey smell ..... ie, bad egg smell!

Thanks for that Syl I almost cancelled the last half of our parade today due to the rain and thunder ........ the first time in over 20 years I have been involved in organizing local parades. Thank heavens it was limited to 50 minutes but with people withdrawing it only lasted 40 minutes. To quote an old Irish saying "I don't mind the rain if it wasn't for the wet" Came home absolutely soaked ... had to pour the water from my shoes.

I think its interesting that the south think that living up north is cheap... OK not all, that would be a sweeping statement!

SylviaInCanada

also re whirlpools

Daughter had a very large, two person jetted whirlpool tub installed in their bathroom in the first house they had.

It took a minimum of 20 minutes to fill ...... fortunately, they had a system where water was heated as needed. Similar to what you have for showers etc in the UK, but not at all common over here.

BUT they were told NEVER to have a bath with soap, bath bubbles, etc, as this would irretrievably clog up the jets.

soooooooooooooo .............

they would fill the bath tub. Run downstairs to the shower. Shower themselves clean. Run back upstairs to the whirlpool, and immerse themselves in it for 10 or 20 minutes.

She said it was very relaxing!

sorry to hear that!

I was going to go downtown this afternoon

But there is the small matter of it being Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals

.................. huge screen tvs out on the street, street closures so people can watch, party time .......... with most of it beginning at about 1:00pm

so I stayed home!

for you others .............. think the FA Cup Final or European Cup Final, but played as a best of 7 games

and think of having one team never having won the Cup in its 40 year history, while the other team has not won in 38 years!

it's like a madhouse!

Sylvia, your comment regarding sulphurous fumes (Hydrogen Sulphide) reminded me of a few years ago. I stayed one night at the Hilton Hotel in Orlando, a nice place but when the lawn sprinklers started in the early hours the smell was horrendous. I complained bitterly and refused point blank to pay the bill.
