I have just paid my subs for GR (ooh I typed GT first) . .. you can't do a gin and tonic Jonesey to go wif da cornflakes....I can't afford the Dorchester...

At least my meal at the Langhams was bought and paid for, mind you I had to work overtime picking up the punters under a lamp post a few blocks from F By G to cover it all.

Whose you callin' a scrubber Gins... ??

Persie.. just been watching Midsomer Murders... glad I don't have ancestry there.

Hi all

~~~~~~~~~~~to Renes <3
See there are a couple of RR'd posts again....it does make you wonder if it is just a fault in the system with some of these reportings??
Whether not to wonderful here stopped raining at the moment though
Jax,
Regarding the RR'd posts. I don't think that on this occasion the overall GR system is likely to be the culprit. I think that much more likely it is down to a sad individual or perhaps several sad individuals with nothing better to do.
Although once the original post has been removed you can generally imagine what its content might have been if there have been any responses to it. In some instances it is possible that the removed post may have included some information about a person who may still be alive but in most that does not seem likely to have been the case/cause.
The most ridiculous instance occurred yesterday. A person had made a post at 4:00pm simply asking for suggestions as to how they might be able to discover where the family home of her family might have been in the 1940's. The only bit of information she gave was the family surname (No forenames or ages stated). Inadvertently, probably due to the slow reaction of the site when she pressed "Submit" she must have pressed the button twice and as a result the post appeared twice on the same board within seconds of each other. Within a few minutes a GR member recognised what was likely to be the cause of the duplication and posted a polite message to the OP on one of the posts explaining. That poster together with others including myself used the other thread to offer our suggestions as to what she might consider doing (Look up BMD certificates ect) to find the answer she sought. The second post did not attract any further responses so nobody duplicated any effort.
Some mindless or malicious person(s) sometime between 4:15 and 8:30pm requested a review on not one but BOTH threads. Fortunately GR has seen fit to restore both original posts now but the damage to the OP may have already been done. They must now be unsure what they did so terribly wrong to warrant their post being removed, albeit temporarily.
Unfortunately some people do not appear to have the sense that they were born with. :-S
Everytime I scroll down Genealogy Chat and see that post about Walter Grummitt ... I have to scroll back thinking it says Wallace and Grommit.
Feathers McGraw..
jax Report 18 Jun 2011 14:36
Well its all very odd I must say Jonesey
I did reply on the 1940s one then I noticed someone saying it was a duplicate so deleted my advice, but as you say there was nothing wrong with the post at all just that there were two of them.
Now you have mentioned it Persie I will have to go and look
Was about to RR this am (2nd time ever) as a poster had put post on General, Genealogy chats along with find ancestors and in the middle of an existing thread selling Australian cemetery info along with email address ... email edited out but still on all boards
Yes Jonesey,
I think this must be very worrying to a lot of new posters (and many of the threads reported are from 'new posters'). I have sent messages to a few of them.
I know that some years ago, even though I had been posting for quite a while, I had one of my threads deleted and a message from GR to say that I had been reported for abuse - I was DEVASTATED !!!!
Extremely upset, I e-mailed GR to say that I had never in my life been abusive to anyone and certainly had not been on my thread.
I didn't really understand what it was all about but I think it had been something rather trivial said by someone else on there which had obviously upset someone.
I do hope that GR can get this sorted soon.
I cant see how that would matter too much Robert
She was'nt asking for info that could get duplicated, just trying to sell something
I know Dea
I like the £80 one they will do that without buying a cert so they must be really good researchers? or maybe there are some good trees on ancestry they can copy?
Anyone about? Hope you're all OK.
Piddling down here - par for the course when the Hoppings is on.
Was at a wedding all day yesterday - have got a sore bit on me head with wearing a fascinator for 12 hours!
Have took a walk on the wild side and posted on the fluffies FB.
They remind me of the nannas who knit the Shreddies. (The cereal - not the men's underkegs).
Evening all!
I have to agree on the Wallace and Gromit thing Persie....I've been exactly the same!
This RR thing is getting ridiculous and I hate newbies getting upset when they haven't a clue what is going on. That is one reason I started my messaging service......because of the way naive newbies were being spoken to etc.
I'm sure you looked fascinating in your fascinator MC.......any pics??
We were supposed to have pouring rain but it's been beautiful....no accounting for the forecasting sometimes.
Please point me in the direction of Wallace & Grommit - am struggling to catch up!
Will put pics on FB if I find any (forgot my camera so will be scrounging some).
