for Gins

lowest ever in Vancouver ..... -18C (our first Christmas here!)

average winter .......... ca -5C (range 7C down to -15C)

freezing ........... 0C (which is = 32F)

average summer range ......... 18C to 25C (daytime)

hottest ever .......... ca 35C

coldest I've ever been in ............... -42C

hottest I've ever been in ............. +40C

we also have the humidex that R mentioned. The humidity is usually pretty high as we are on the coast ....... and that will have the effect of making the temperature feel 5-10C warmer than it actually is.

Similarly, in winter we have the wind chill effect, which makes the temperature feel as though it is up to 10C lower than it actually is.

Coldest period in Vancouver is January - February

Warmest late July to very early September

does that answer your question?

Persephone Report 24 Jun 2011 02:42

It is winter here but it is not cold enough in the mountains... supposed to be the ski-ing season and there is no sight of snow. Queenstown is not in a very happy place at the moment.

Oz had snow at Mt Hotham Victoria last summer... now that is a a great ski-ing place... it is the only mountain I have been on where you drive right over the top of it and the chair lifts and skiers are along side you. We had to have chains on the car and the snow was thick as .. all the cars in the carpark were mounds of snow.. it was winter then though.

Auckland can have four seasons in one day.... you never know what is going to happen. The weather forecasters have a 50/50 chance of getting it right.

Fans my lamp post is a Fortnum and Mason purchase LOL... no it is in the Wellington Botanical Gardens...

Just how many times does your washing machine go on in a week. Mines on every day and I still seem to have a basket full of dirty clothes

Its just taken me longer to peg out than it did for the washer to do its stuff

Hi all

Washing gets done when needed...so when there is a full load of darks ect, there is only two of us after all.
My neighbours seem to have a line full of washing everyday all through the year...again just two of them, I recon they must have contenence probs with all that lot.

When I was working I had a uniform as such with large aprons they were greenish to start then they changed them to white of all colours.
Well HID decided to work there too so we had ten of them to wash each week....lovely tangled mess of apron strings to undo

There's only two of us but the washer is on at least five days a week I guess.

Why does your 'interesting' post on fb have to be a Scottish one.......divil of a job sometimes. :-(

Gee

Gee Report 24 Jun 2011 18:01

Ja...x even I know to tie apron strings together in a tight bow before chucking in the washer

Anyone able to help om my Huddersfield/USA thread?

jax

jax Report 24 Jun 2011 18:13

Its much more fun getting 10 tangled heavy wet aprons out of the machine :-D The ties were really long too, as I used to end up tieing them up at the front when I wore mine....then I was a size 8 then.

I did like the fact our aprons were whiter than everyone elses that was because I used vanish in every wash amazing how it got ketchup mustard and bbq sauce out

ja...x, I never ceased to be amazed at the number of members who have posted 50+ threads and don't return to read replies or, they ask the most basic family history questions which even I could answer!!

And when I say basic, I mean basic.....cos I'm not a whizz kid like the rest of you.

I can only think that they have done a lot of chatting rather than a lot of research???
