You poor neice Fans, must be awful for her

My kids were and are faddy but I blame that on their father. They dont eat veg as far as I know apart from one eats raw carrots. I think the younger one eats a more varied diet if her father would give it to her.

When I used to visit he would cook us a meal normally pasta with a bolignaise sauce but no onions....yuck

His partners son is autistic and I seem to remember he would not eat a meal if things were touching each other on the plate....but then he smoothered everything in tomato ketchup after :-)

Good news today had to go to a tribunal to get placed in the support group for ESA....months of worrying then panic this morning as it was so hot 31c the car said, anyway very nice lady judge and lady doctor (both English) and they had decided before I went in it seems that I had won.

Weight off my mind for a while until this government changes things again

Im glad to hear that Jax as I knew you were fretting over it....I know what them things are like with HID having dealings with them before .
The gov keep going on about getting disabled into work...But we havent got enough work for ablebodied a lot of the time and the last person to see HID said "There are some people that can work with their disabilities and then there are some that cant, and you fall into the cant ..!)Scares the daylights out of me at the thought that they may decide he CAN do a full time job...Its not them that see him everyday is it??

Niece is in good hands and a good consultant...Dont know how things are going now but Mother gives me news of it all when I speak to her....Think she also has the 2 cervix thing as well....Mother couldnt remember the name of other thing she had 2 of so that is prob it..

Mother is fretting that she wont be able to have children as she doe want some...eventually...But Im sure she is getting the best help knowing nieces mother...

Cynthia
How do you go about getting adults diagnosed.?The form they gave me was for a three year old and of course so many of the questions were irrelevant now. They both were statemented but have different ends of the spectrum. Others have recognised it in them with the way they talk etc and there is no way the older one could get a job.

Really pleased for you ja...x that's great news. You must feel a whole lot happier now :-D

I can understand what you must have been through as I went to a tribunal once re my daughter. When I came out I said I would rather have another baby than go through that again...awful experience.

Hope your niece gets the help she needs Fans. Does the condition have a name or have I missed it somewhere?

Cynthia Report 27 Jun 2011 17:01

Hi LK.

It's easier than it was to get a diagnosis for an adult but it still isn't that easy.

First port of call is the GP who, hopefully, but not necessarily, will have an idea of the symptoms of the condition.

You need to go armed with any concise info which matches their traits...check the National Autistic Society website and print out anything you can particularly relate to. Also, there should be a diagnostic sheet for GP's on the site somewhere.

It's also worth mentioning to the GP that there is now the Autism Act which has been passed which is to be implemented by the Autism Strategy. This gives people much more of a leg to stand on.

You need to google what you can so that you can put your case over well.

Check your local area to see if they have any support groups and maybe get in contact for advice.

The NAS also run a helpline which may be worth calling for advice too.

Let me know how it goes or if I can help anymore

I should have said that, hopefully, your doc will agree with you and send them for an assessment.

NO Cynths - that is what Fan's niece is suffering from (I think).

Your memory problems are probably due to 'oldish' age, like mine :-D

There is a 'potentially' interesting programme on Radio 4 at the moment Cynthia about an Asbergers sufferer who is a Consultant Physician ??

IThat's a pretty rare syndrome that you niece has!

I'm sure she's found it, but there is a web site started by a young woman with it

I'm convinced that my son-i-l is an undiagnosed high-functioning on the autism spectrum person.

He shows so many of the traits, not only the food.

He does differ in that he can be very empathetic, and is touchy-feely. Kisses his parents, and us, hello and good-bye ............. which is not typicel I understand.

Interestingly several members of his family, going back 2 geenrations, also show(ed) traits on the syndrome.

Of course, I worry about my grandson .... although he doesn't seem to be showing any traits.
