The question was .... "send your favourite year and your reason" and I replied "2011 will always stand out in my memory as a favourite year – because this was the year I got divorced!!! [long overdue!]" lol

:-D

I won a book called ‘Tracing Your Ancestors’ by Simon Fowl - dont know whether it is any good - but ......... I WON IT!!!!!!!!!! [first prize was a pair of ‘Who Do You Think You Are’ live tickets for next year’s show in London] - I think I got the better deal!!! .......... :-S

MC

I have a childhood (age around 5 or 6) memory of coming downstairs after being put to bed, and seeing a woman with a baby in the living room. I was quickly hustled back to bed

..................... and could never get an answer, except being told I must have dreamt it.

However, I ended up having several long talks with someone about 30 years ago ............ and discovered that the woman alleged the baby was my brother's

He was still under 18 at that time, she was about 20 or so, French, and married to a British serviceman who was still "overseas".

Brother did admit it ............ but apparently parents put their foot down and "showed her the door"

I have no idea what happened to them, nor the sex of the baby ............ and of course, no surname to search under.

and so far as I know, OH, daughter and I are now the only ones to know about it

Lainie - I bet that's more original than most of the responses they got!

Sylvia - I bet there aren't many families who don't have some similar "skeleton in the cupboard".

Have just put my new avatar on. It's my maternal grandmother (the nice side of the family!) I'm guessing it would have been taken around 1920-ish.

Dea Report 6 Jan 2012 20:13

Sorry Laines, but for me - it was 1971 - the year I was married - closely followed by 1974 - the year my lovely son was born !!!

Most of my years are memorable Lainie....but not always for the right reason...... ;-)

That is some story Sylvia - and how 'spooky' [to quote Dame Edna] to find out that your 'dream' was real and the reason it was all kept from you was because of family secrets??? Did it turn out that he was really your brother??

Dea - if things hadnt gone the way they did then I would have said that the year of my marriage would have been a memorable year!! As it turned out - it is the year that I made the worst mistake I have ever made - and 2000 closely follows as the year that I gave him a second chance and tried again - I should have known.

Yes, the years my children were born will always be memorable but have been overshadowed by events.

Dont be 'sorry' I am not! I regret that my marriage didnt work out cos I got married 'for ever' but things change!! My divorce [actually] was a very sad event for me - but hey, life moves on!!! :-D

lainie39

lainie39 Report 6 Jan 2012 20:23

Anyway - enough of the sad stuff - come on - what year was the most memorable for the rest of you???

Dea

Dea Report 6 Jan 2012 20:24

It certainly does Laines !!

This year will be a new start for you !!

WayneTracey Report 6 Jan 2012 20:28

Well i can't say adding to your question will stop the sadness.

For me it was 2011.... my family lost a Grandchild and a Grandparent.

Sadly my partner's father died on Xmas day.

....been a weird year for me :-S
