So glad to hear that my dongle is causing so much hilarity - huh!

Hactewally, said dongle not only has a blue light on it but is black on one side and white on the other! Make of that what you will........ :-D

Naughty Sylvs? :-P :-P :-P

I will, however, thank you for breakfast which, as per usual, is wonderful. Porridge with sugar for me.

Who.......what......was that Fans thing which popped in before? Why would we miss her/him/it? You do get some peculiar people sometimes. :-P

Hello Catherine, I see you have posted on the Suggestions board quite frequently. Hope things are running better for you now.

Ah well, had better log orf before I am ripped orf - see ya later. ~~~

Hi Persie

My tree turned into a jungle a long time ago. Not just my lot, but OH's on there too. Both of us have rellies who emigrated all over the world. Many of mine went to Utah, the men had multiple wives and tribes of children.

On the non-Mormon side of things....... my grandad was one of 17 (yes, seventeen) children. I've only found 15 of them (at least 6 died as infants).

I'm descended from an illegitimate child of a Bishop........... who married his mistress many years later, so his children could inherit titles & money! None of the titles or money passed down my branches lol

My GR tree is the "small" one with almost 19,000 names. I have nearly 2,000 names on my contacts list. Don't ask how many on my own software!

There are much bigger trees than mine on GR. Need a map to navigate them.

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 12 Mar 2012 13:45

Oooh Catherine, I wouldn't call 19,000 a small tree! Mine is only around 1,300 and jax has one with very few on it if I remember rightly.

Have you been able to verify that all details are correct on each line?

I think I would give the men in Utah a miss...............much too complicated to work out! :-S

My grandmother was the last of 16 also 6 died as babies (two sets of twins) found the baptisms and burials for five of them...no idea who the other one was

hi all
xxx

gale force winds overnight, and all this morning. Just starting to have some quieter periods in between gusts. The outer coast was getting hurricane force gusts .... that's 120 kph

We're OK in our neighbourhood ............. just had the winds and rain, but not seemingly any damage, ........

............. and the power is still on :-D

OH's gt gt grandfather was one of 20 children, all survived to adulthood, but fortunately several of them did not marry or have children.

My parental line is the worst ................... they had big families dating back as far as the 1700s, most of the children in each generation married and had big families. One family emigrated to Australia in the 1840s, and had children over there. His niece and nephew both married in the UK, and had a few children, and then emigrated to Australia in the 1850s where they had more children .......... uncle, niece and nephew all ended up in different parts of that country.

The nephew and some of his children (some already married and with children of their own) then boarded a Mormon ship and went to California where they were supposed to proselytize on the Californian Goldfields. I don't think they really were Mormons, have found no proof ..... think they just took advantage of a ship going somewhere. They settled down and populated the San Bernardino area, and became staunch pillars of society.

I have made no attempt to trace these families any further! I know someone who is, and she is well into the 5, or maybe even 6, figures on her ancestry tree ............. and I trust her work ................ but I don't have that over-riding desire to trace every single person!

I want to know only one thing ....... and this has eluded all the researchers into this family, going all the way back to people doing the tree back in the 1970s and '80s ....................

.............. where did John come from in 1740, when he married Catherine???

Her family has been traced back to 1540 ...... but we can only assume that John was born "about 1720" because no-one can find any record of baptism, or possible parents.
