Okay. For the uninitiated........forgetful...........or just plain clueless.....

All Creatures Great and Small was a tv series based on the life of a vet in Yorkshire. His name was James Herriot.

One of his patients was a dog called Tricki Woo - owned by Mrs Pumphrey. She always referred to her dog's condition as 'flop bot'.

There. Does that help??? :-S

Sheesh......you lot are hard work sometimes....

Hi Laines..........~~~~~

Do any of you know what it means when someone receives a pm and, when they access it, a brown box shows up saying this message cannot be viewed??

Have just been asked this by someone I sent a message to.

Mother's Day here is Sunday May 13

jax Report 17 Mar 2012 04:42

Having been in the restuarant trade for many years...hated mothers day.

Worst day of the year, we did'nt take bookings and there would be queues from 11.30 till 8ish

I remember one place I worked at as management I was told I had to make the desserts for the waitresses rather than seat people. This started at 12 and I did'nt finish until 10 without a break.....handed my notice in the following day.

Last time I went to the states it was to Vegas and it was in May and did'nt realise mothers day was while we were there...we expected it to be like the uk....not a problem getting into any restuarant...would not attempt to go out here on sunday without a booking.

The brown box is a message in a plain brown wrapper.. courier delivered and probably contains unmentionable material.

Did Mrs Pumphrey also have two cats... I know one of them had two cats and one cat got pregnant and she told Herriot that the cat couldn't be pregnant as they were not allowed outside. He looked at the other cat and said something like well it must be his. Herriot then got told off for even thinking such a thing as they were brother and sister moggies.

All this talk about fat-bot and a flop-bot sorry should that be fat-blop ... reminded me that in the roaring twenties they had a Charleston type dance called the black bottom.

Hello Linda... I can understand this thread being a comfort to some... I think???
It hasn't made any difference to my sanity. I guess I can hope or have another coffee with Renes..that helps.... but then along comes FbyG and Gins and it has all gorn again.

Jax ... I think halloween and thanksgiving are their biggies and of course the 4th of July .. at least they were when I was there. But they have holidays for all sorts over there it can be a nuisance when you are traveling around a lot.

Think you are right there Persie

Dont think I have been there in Oct/Nov but have been to Palm Springs twice in Feb...few holidays then.

First time I went to Palm Springs we went to visit my friends inlaws. The mother in law gave me a gift for Valentines day....strange because we only give valentines gifts to our boyfriends/partners.husbands not to complete strangers.

I also think there are more restuarants in the states...well there were in Vegas so they dont get so busy

you wouldn't try to get in any restaurant on Mother's Day here without a reservation made several days in advance!

The only exception might be in some of the restaurants in the big hotels downtown, where they might keep some tables for hotel guests

It is of course exceptionally commercial in North America

Give your mother diamond earrings.

Give your mother a luxury car!!!

J gives me only a card ....... that's all she has ever done, apart from the little gifts she used to make in kindergarten and elementary school.

And I don't get anything from OH ..... he says I'm not his mother :-D
