OOOerrr !!! - I have just returned from a trip to Tesco and I am all hot and bothered !!! :-0 :-S :-(
In our main store they have a system where, when you go in you can pick up a little scanner which lodges in a holder in your trolley and when you put something in your basket you can scan it first and then pack it into your shopping bag and then when you have finished you just have to go to a special bay area where there are screens and you download the info from the scanner into the 'thingy' and you can pay for your shopping and leave, without having to go to a till :-D
Well, for probably 18 months now, I have been watching people do this and thinking what a good idea it would be so today I thought I would give it a try :-0 ;-) :-S :-S :-S
It was quite simple really - I thought you had to register and give your name and address etc but all you had to do was to wave your clubcard at the thing on the wall and there were rows and rows of thezse little scanners in holders hanging up.
One of them flashed and that was the one I had to use so, off I set 'On my mission' ! :-D
It took me twice as long to do my shopping because at first I kept forgetting to scan the item and then when I got the hang of that I was worried that I would scan things twice but I found the cancel button in case this happened.
I was concentrating SO hard that I kept missing things that I wanted and having to go back to find them.
Anyway, I managed to finish my shopping and get to the pay area but was then baffled as to how I could get all my money off coupons to deduct but I saw the nice lady who had told me how to get the scanner when I arrived and grabbed her to help me with the final steps :-D
I was SO glad to get out of there but. all in all, it was quite a simple process and I am sure that it will go much smoother the next time I try it. :-D
My only thought though is that if everyone decided to adopt this way of shopping there would probably be many people who would lose their jobs on the check-outs! I will have to give this some serious thought ! :-S
I suppose you lot have already mastered this but there are people on here who can vouch for my inability to master various types of technologies.
I suppose my most famous display of this is that my car, even though about 26 years old, has 5 gears but when I learned to drive I had only 4 to contend with. I think I have only used 5th gear once in the 23 years I have had it ;-) :-D :-D :-D I reckon 4 is more than enough !

Dea,
You do make me smile at certain times. Your comment about not using your car's 5th gear because the car you learnt to drive in only had 4 gears is just such one of those times.
I tried a new shopping experience this morning, grocery shopping online at Asda. It is easy to see how people get confused with the "Special" offers some of which are not that special such as 6 for £4 or buy 12 for £11.39. Mind you once you have finalised your order an paid it is just a matter of waiting for delivery tomorrow which because I chose the 8 hour delivery slot only cost me £2.50.

I have been trying desperately to find something to help on in order to get my 60p's worth of extra subs on here but I haven't found anything yet :-( :-( :-(

We have self check out places at many of our stores ........... but I haven't seen that kind of scan yourself
It sounds very confusing to me :-S
I'm also dismayed at the lack of requests being posted from WDYTYA .................. and the very poor information that is being collected by the GR staff.
I guess not many of us will be getting that free month!

Good morning early birds... :-D
Ooooh.....nice to see you and your breakfasts back Sylvs. Dea will be SO relieved as she has had to put up with my feeble efforts much too often..... :-D
So no 'holey' ears then Dea......bet you're relieved ;-)
Hopefully, it is going to be a reasonable day today. If I can get all my washing dried outdoors, then I will be a happy bunny. OH will be a happy bunny too - it means 'no electricity went into the the drying of this load'. :-D :-D
Apart from that.....not sure what is on the agenda.
There was a request (on the dark side) on the page of a small village church not too far from me, for information on the names of the soldiers commemorated on their village war memorial.
The children from the primary school are doing a project on the War, and the teachers were hoping that, maybe, there were people in the village who had photographs, medals etc. which would help the children to realise that the names were once people.
I put this to the others who meet up over there, and we took about 4 names each and researched them and it was a great example of teamwork. I am almost at the end of collating it all and will be sending it to the school this coming week. I do hope they will be pleased, as there are some photographs and lots of information included.
I imagine lots of schools will be doing similar things.......
Must go...~~~~
