from the mundia FAQS

How did you get over 1 billion profiles in your family tree network as a new site?
Mundia is connected to the Ancestry Websites and part of the Ancestry community. All of the public family trees throughout the Ancestry Websites are visible on Mundia.

I already created my family tree on another website. Why should I put my tree on Mundia also?
Mundia helps you grow your tree automatically. Unlike other websites, Mundia’s robust matching technology automatically searches more than 1 billion profiles in the world’s largest collection of family trees to provide matches that help you grow your own tree. You may see a unique green leaf on a person's profile in your tree to indicate a possible match. You can choose to accept the match and instantly merge additional data into your own tree. Mundia also helps you discover and connect with living relatives across the world.

so ALL of the public family trees on ancestry have been copied over to mundia!

Private tree are also on mundia.com and they are linked to your tree on ancestry. If you delete something off the mundia site it also deletes it out of your tree on ancestry.

I was informed when the mundia site was launched a few years back but as my trees are private thought nothing of it.

The vote is on wether we want the Welsh Assembly to have more Power on Law making without having to go through Westminster...

To make it more like Scotlands Parliament..Sort of..

You know Im not good at Politicking..!

But I do think we should not have to go through Westminster to get laws passed in Wales...So does that make a Yes vote?
Or will the extra power go to their heads so therefore should I vote No...

Hmmm...
Tick both boxes maybe...Nope,then its a spoilt vote..That much I do know about Politicking..

I posted at GR abut Mundia a whlie back. Horrific privacy violation, as far as I could tell.

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.page/board/records_office/thread/1239608?page=2

That was precisely the case, I found: a private tree at Ancestry became public at Mundia.

I have had no response from Ancestry re the public tree it started for me, with my real name in it, connected with my username, that I didn't ask for or consent to.

I guess I'd better go find out whether my name is in "my" tree at mundia now ...

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 2 Mar 2011 22:56

And how do you do that without becoming a member please JC?

I would like to check my tree is not on there as mine is private on Anc,but dont want to reg at the site..

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 2 Mar 2011 23:03

I hadn't heard about it before ...... must have missed your thread JC

My tree is also private on ancestry

I guess I take out another gmail account, or hotmail?

Well I signed up for mundia. ;) You can do it just using your Ancestry ID.

And yes, I now have a tree there. It has been altered to show my name as my Ancestry username, which I did the other day, but I'm sure it had my real name there for all the time it's been at Ancestry without my knowing.

PM me a name date place to search for at Mundia - and your tree owner/account name - and I'll see whether I can see your tree.

Gotta go to bed...Crackered again now...Fan the builder is still working on things here...

I will send you some details tomorrow JC if I may and maybe you can check out to see if my tree is on there for me??

TootyFruity

TootyFruity Report 2 Mar 2011 23:08

I've checked on mundia and all my trees are private on there

Edit: interestingly though is I've updated my email address on ancestry yolks ago yet mundia is showing the old one

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 2 Mar 2011 23:10

I just signed in using my ancestry sign-in and password

This is what it says on the Profile page

What is Mundia?

Mundia.com is a new site within the Ancestry.com network of sites focused on building family trees and connecting people with living relatives. This site does not offer access to historical records available on the Ancestry.com site network.

The same family trees and profiles found here on Mundia are also available through the Ancestry.com network of sites. You can access the same information through your existing Ancestry.com account without the need to join Mundia.

I can see that I ahve 3 trees (all are Private on ancestry)

but I can't see how to open any of them!

maybe to entice you into a subscription???

you could set up your tree on this new site, find lots of stuff from the Pblic trees ....................... then want to see the records, and of course then you have to subscribe

in other words

a marketing tool???

that's all I can think of
