Ginny,

I DO hope your new cooker doesn't turn out to be a disappointment like my new one!

I had a lovely cooker before and it was under an extended warranty scheme. The bottom fixing of the door on the main oven came loose and the engineer said I would have to have a new door.

Unfortunately they could not get one and so I had to have the whole cooker replaced. Such a shame as it worked perfectly.

The one they found for me, when I looked it up on the internet ranged in price from over £800 to almost £1000, depending on where you got it from so it was't cheap.

As it is a gas cooker, I couldn't find anywhere that kept it in stock so I could not go and see it, but anyway, it does look o.k. BUT............ It is absolutely awful to use and I really hate it !!!!!!!!!!

I seems a bit extravagant to go out and buy a new one so I am just hoping that it will fall to pieces and need to be replaced.

I hope your's 'works like a dream' !!!!!

About 20 years ago my wife declared that we needed a new cooker so I said "order one then". She did and I was horrified to discover that she had picked an expensive one costing more than £750.

When I got home from work on the day it was fitted I enquired what she was going to cook for tea on her new stove. She replied "Nothing, I thought we would have a barbecue tonight"

I fell asleep last night otherwise I might have said something to the Poo as she does'nt like me either.
At least cookers have come down in price now. The last one I bought which was in 1995 ( as I have not owned my own home since) cost a £1000 for a free standing Stoves ceramic top thingy

Good news, J has turned up safe and sound. Was stranded with no comms or internet. Phew!

I'd love a new cooker but having trouble finding a decent one in the right size. Kitchen takes a freestanding slot in, but only 55cm and there's not much I like in that width - don't want to start tearing kitchen to bits to fit in the more standard 60cm.

Well thats good news MC

The cooker we have in this house looked nice, 4 gas rings plus what we thought was a griddle, but it cannot be removed for cleaning....so I dont know what use that is? as it is fitted between the units not sure if they make them now the exact size to fit in that gap.

So pleased J has turned up safe and well MC.

I always thought I would always cook with gas but I have to say although I prefer a gas hob I would never have a gas oven again after using my Mums. It's only three years old and with all the safety features, I would never buy one. By comparison my electric oven is far better. With her gas you push in the knob, turn and hold for what seems an eternity and leave it on high for five minutes. Mine turn knob, good to go. Her gas oven is such a faff and it wasn't a cheap one either

Gee

Gee Report 13 Mar 2011 14:22

Hang on I replied under Jonesey about the ovens....where has it gorn???

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 13 Mar 2011 14:23

Really good news MC - I bet everyone concerned has heaved a sigh of relief. :))

I've had both electric and gas ovens and would go for gas everytime to be honest TF. I never felt in control of the electric one and couldn't gauge times properly whereas, at least with gas, I know what's happening! Good job we are all different though.....lol

Beautiful day here now but am indoors cos OH always has a nap after lunch. Messaging here I come..

Dea Report 13 Mar 2011 14:25

I am starting to think that too Toots!

I just hope this one will 'die' prematurely and I think I have decided to change to electric.

They are far cheaper too !!!

Knowing my luck - this 'horrible' one will last forever !!!

Not that I cook anymore, but I prefered the fan assisted electric one at the old house (which was new). HID forgets to turn the gas one off as there are no lights on it aghhhh

Did someone object to your post then Gins?

I used to love gas ovens until all the safety stuff was put in, Mums is a double oven/grill the same as mine. To switch on the grill on Mums is such a pain, you have to stand there with knob pressed for a few minutes, which seems like a lifetime, mine turn knob, job done. You soon get used to the settings and timings. It's just so much easier
