I have an expensive robotic hoover which is very good, but takes ages and it cannot hoover the dust off the top of the imation gas wood burning stove.

I just bought a drag along Vax quite powerful one for £50...does the job

I have a Vax also - I can't use it now as it is too heavy for me but it replaced my Dyson for a fraction of the price and was way more efficient !!

A bit fiddly to clean the filter thingy butnot too bad considering the performance!!

The area around my cooker - tiles and worktop have a lot of grease which is very stubborn to remove (OOOhh I hate to have to admit this as it sounds VERY horrible) !!

Dea,,
Take a window paint scraper to it,the ones that have the stanley blade thing in them..Then scrub "gently" with fine wire wool dipped in washing up liquid...Voile..!

Dea Report 13 Mar 2011 18:12

Thank you Fans - I will try that !!

I have to admit that it really is 'horrible'

My house used to be quite 'sparkling'; but health problems took over and now it is quite 'Urrrgghhg '

I think I'll stay away from here on Sunday. It always seems to be the Day of the Pakleds.

If I run into another multiple-posting one today ..............

Hope you're not referring to us Janey....lol

Dea, I think ja...x has hit the spot. Why not (if you can afford it that is) get a cleaning firm in to give you a head start and then, either do it gently yourself or have someone in once a week??? Just a thought.

I think with a lot of men they dont notice the dirt like us women, I get fed up with the house being blitzed when we are expecting visitors rather than it being done on a regular basis.
When I was married I worked 5 days a week in a Bank 2 nights and sat and sun in a pub did all the shopping, cooking, housework and washing and normally most of the gardening he did his own ironing...now I feel bad about asking HID to do some housework...its not as though he is tired out from work lol

Cynthia

I have thought about it - that is what I really need BUT my house is SO out of control that I would be ashamed to have someone come in to clean it !!

I need to get itn 'under control' first so that I can ask someone for help and not feel ashamed and I can't do that because I do not have the energy ! !!!

To be honest Dea, you don't sound as though you are 'up' to getting it under control. Why not google for cleaning firms in your area and, when you find one that you think is reasonably priced, explain your situation to them. I am sure they will have dealt with much worse to be honest!

You have made me cry now !!

I know you are right but I am still rather ashamed at the state I have let it get into!

Dea

don't worry ................ those companies have seen worse than your house!

as C says, explain your problem to them, and let them go to it.

we all love you

((((xxx))))

I've haven't done a lot of housework for years, I've had Teresa, my Treasure, coming in once every 2 weeks since 1995.

But she hasn't been since the end of Seotember last year, when we started ripping the kitchen apart.

I can no longer do very much ........ and have to depend on OH, who has so much else to do that housekeeping gets pushed further and further back.

We do keep the bathrooms clean, and the kitchen, which is easy of course as it was ripped back to the walls and is now in the last stage of being completely re-painted

but don't look anywhere else in the house!

we do have friends coming on Thursday, luckily only for a short time ...... so out will come the hoover and dusters for a blitz on the front room
