Afternoon All

Gill I am keeping everything crossed for you hoping that your boiler keeps going now.Maybe there was a bit of muck in the pipe that then caused that overflow of water.

We have had a few snow showers this morning, then light hail and also some sun.it's very windy too.

Frank we do get those little planes .The ones that seem to climb high into the sky and then suddenly drop like a stone. It worries me when the engines stop lol and I hold my breath until they start again for the next climb.

I have just made tomorrows dinner. The house stinks now and so do I .I shall be going for a shower and hair wash in a minute..I made Smoked Haddock Macaroni Cheese.
It's funny how the recipe says how long preparation times takes, and it takes me double or more :-S :-S..I think it is because I am so disorganised when it comes to cooking from scratch.
I think I might light a few scented candles and put one in our bedroom as all cooking smells seem to get trapped in there.

Frank I'm sure if you save up you pennies like a good boy you will manage 2 holidays :-D :-D
Ann ,Fitz and I are going for lunch in Market Harborough at a nice restaurant called Ascoug*s.it is the same one we go to every year when we have our get together.

The sun keeps coming and going .I think I will grab the washing in now just in case we get a shower........Looks like some folk will be getting snow tomorrow !!!!!

I think I will watch Doctors before my shower and hair wash.

I really enjoyed The Second Best Marigold Hotel, it's not for everyone as I said to my daughter and it's not really a 'blokey' film they added a bit of Bollywood this time and it was really funny in parts so well worth going to see and when we came out had a lovely cappuccino in C*sta's with chocolate and coffee cake, yum.

I'm tempted too Gill to get started on the garden, it is such a bright sunny day here, but that wind looks very strong and I'd rather wait until it's warmer, no fun gardening when you're really cold, I'm not that keen.

So it's back to the art room for me now, good to get ahead of myself with cards and I've still got an empty frame on the wall waiting to be filled. :-0

Jane

Jane Report 2 Mar 2015 17:52

The Art room sounds a far more sensible idea rather than gardening at the moment Maureen :-D.There will be plenty of time for the garden when it gets a little warmer and less windy. Our side gate has been rattling like crazy in the wind today.

I don't know whether I mentioned this or not.But Hannah and her housemates have signed up to a site called 'Borrow my Doggie'.It is a thing where people who have dogs need someone to have them for a few hours, a day ,short breaks etc.The girls had a look at the pictures of dogs in their area that they think they would like to have. The first one (owner has replied) is a little French Bulldog called FRANK :-D :-D LOL

The house still stinks of Smoked Haddock...I am smelling sweet after my shower and hair wash. :-D.....But now I will smell of Sausages and Spanish Potatoes ( that is what is cooking for tonight.

Dentist for me in the morning :-| :-|..I really really do not want to go. :-S.I know he will go poking around my back tooth which is very sensitive to hot and cold and bleeds like mad when brushed. :-S...He will no doubt give me a lecture on not cleaning it properly.
Trouble is it is so difficult to get to.My mouth is small ..........No comment FRANK ;-)

Frank Report 2 Mar 2015 17:53

Afternoon all,

We haven't had any snow/sleet or rain. Just very windy a bitterly cold.

Jane when I first moved up here I worked at Philli#s who had a big distribution centre at Sywell. The first summer there, were the world acrobatic air display championships (1964) You should have seen those "LITTLE PLANES" diving around. Stopping their engines. The whole office were out watching them.

Maureen I think Carolyn and Ros will be going to see that film, not my cup of tea. Glad you are getting on with your paintings rather than the garden. If and when it gets warmer I will be in my shorts from morning till night and in the garden with my book, I will also do some jobs :-D :-D

Well it's a good job you didn't reduce the price Liz. perseverance is a just reward <3 <3 <3.

Ros said Jan has to be up by 2.00 am tomorrow, as she has to get ready then it's a two hour drive to the airport and she has to be there by 5.30 am. She will want to sleep tomorrow while Conrad is at work.

Cold beef, chips (home made) and colslaw for Ros. Pickle for me. So nice and easy and not much washing up..

The new Martin Clunes programme is starting tonight at 9.00 pm. With him in it it should be good. Apart from that it's SOAPS for TWO HOURS. (far too long)

Mr grumpy is signing off !!!

Evening all,

Cor it's been really cold today that wind blows right through you to your bones ,it was nice to see the sun .......through the window .

Well fancy that Mel, that was where my Gt Grandmother ( Mary Cheeseworth )was born :-)
So you have had the noisy planes today them Mel, years ago we use to have lots of gliders in the sky ,that was when they could take off from Swanton Morley aerodrome ,when the RAF moved in the gliders stopped ,i use to like seeing the planes towing them and then seeing the line drop off and the glider soaring away.

Gill, fingers crossed the boiler will keep going so you can have a little heat ,may be it was a little muck in the system as Jane said .

I love Macaroni Cheese ,not sure if i would like the smoked haddock in it though , what made you cook it today ? you'll have the smell again tomorrow when you heat it up :-D
Now you be a big brave girl tomorrow at the dentist :-D
Do you use the Sens*dyne toothpaste ? it does help .

When i was cleaning my shoes this morning it got me thinking, does anyone use shoe polish any more ?,i use to have to polish my shoes for school ,one brush to put the polish on and another one to buff them up and then a cloth to rub them up to a nice shine ,now it's all creams and gels for your shoes .

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 2 Mar 2015 19:05

I still use shoe polish and the brushes that dad gave me when I was first married in 1969. I must admit the bristles fall out a bit now if I get to enthusiastic. Did'nt know they do gel for shoes now. I have got one of those bottles with the foam on the top if I want a quick wipe over and just let them dry.

Mandy what did you think about that rellie I was looking for you. I did wonder if it was a still born child as it would have only been 7 months old when it was born.

Chicken breasts for us tonight stuffed with phili cheese and wrapped in bacon. Sweet pots peas and mushrooms.

MillymollyAmanda Report 2 Mar 2015 19:31

I think you might be right Mel, we're saying the baby was 7 months , it might have been younger , just a mystery :-(

William

William Report 2 Mar 2015 19:38

Hello everyone, sorry I haven't been on to have a natter but it has been one heck of a year but I think things may be on an upturn now, thank goodness.
I have so much to catch up on and tell you, I just hope GR doesn't do it's usual and drop me out half way through this dialogue! Maybe I'll keep saving and putting putting it back if it does, you can't be too careful.

I can't remember how much I've told you all about this year for us so if I'm repeating something do forgive me. Some of you put nice messages and 'likes' on Carmel's birthday posting on Facebook, so she would like to thank you all for that. The day didn't go quite as planned due to some mix ups but it was enjoyable anyway. Her brother in Dublin arranged a floral display to be sent through Interfl*ra, and due to a mix up, it didn't arrive until the next day - so there was an additional posh box of chocolates as a 'sorry'. If I was her brother, I'd have asked for a refund anyway, it's just not good enough, it was the Irish end that caused the mix up. Anyway, I've posted a photo of them on the Facebook thread if anyone cares to look and she was eventually delighted with them.
If you recall, my daughter Mandy was very ill with poisoning in her system from her knee operation and she was lucky to have escaped with her life. After being treated in our local hospital, she eventually went to the poisons unit at the Nuffield in Oxford where she had the original operation done and luckily they have managed to reverse the problem. She was eventually released home (she lives on her own out in the sticks, her son is at Uni in London, but makes the trip up and down repeatedly to look after her when he can) and she had an IV antibiotic system tended by a nurse calling each day. She has to see the consultant on March 8th. When she can put pressure on her brake pedal leg she will be permitted to drive once again, then eventually back to work in Oxford Brookes university. I did manage to get over to see her a week today, but it's an hour drive each way, so not to be done often. She seems much better although on a lot of medication still. I stayed till I saw she was tiring and then made my way home so she could have a nap. We had such a lot to chat about and catch up on.

Carmel's back problem is clearing up nicely now after four visits to four different doctors. But she was put on antiinflamatories and a different cream and slowly the pain and discomfort has eased. Then just over a week ago on the Thursday she got the quickest bug I've ever known to affect her. Sore throat in the morning, streaming nose by midway - and onto her chest by bedtime. Besides all that, it was going 'right through her' if you know what I mean. So on the Friday I didn't hesitate but phoned for a doctors visit. When she came, she confirmed it had gone onto her chest and said with the weekend looming, I'd done the right thing to call her in. But, thankfully, that's in the past now, but it all takes it's toll.
Meantime, the occupational therapist from Social Services called to see what help she could have. They have supplied a bath lift so she won't have to have showers all the time and can soak 'the important places'. Also a device under her mattress that gives her handles to help her in and out of bed. It's getting to be like a real old folks home here :-)

In the meantime, I think you learnt via Mel, that Carmel's friend of 50 years died suddenly, although 91 she was always very healthy. They found her dead on her kitchen floor, then it was nearly four weeks before the funeral took place. We still don't really know what happened. We went to the crem for the funeral and actually got 'mentioned in dispatches'.
If that wasn't enough, how about this! Carmel hadn't been able to go to Sunday Mass since Christmas then two weeks ago she was up early enough and well enough to ask me to take her. We usually sit at the front with a lady named Bridie, who se Hymnals I get for her for as she has walking problems. Anyway, we went to Mass and there was no sign of Bridie, but a lady and gent from the pew behind usmoved besdie us and told us that Bridie had died on the previous Monday. That was a bit of a shock as we thought she would have been wondering what had happened to us since Christmas.
Another shock was when Carmel's friend Jenny phoned to ask if I would call in and collect her card and present as she'd been in hospital. When I asked if it was serious, she told us that she'd had a mastectomy! Apparently it was very sudden and she didn't tell anyone until the last minute. Anyway, she is on the mend, slow and sure as they say. Jenny was Carmel carer/sitter for years and came so I could go out for a break. They have remained firm friends ever since even though Jenny has retired.

You probably know that in the middle of all this some idiot sideswiped my car while it was parked and drove off. I put in a police report but would you believe I've heard nothing at all from them, not even an acknowledgment.

So, we are hoping the year can only get better from now on, given a bit of good weather and a following wind. Perhaps next time I put a posting on here it will be a bit more cheerful, hope I haven't spoilt anyone's day!!! I think I'll now lead us all in a chorus of "Happy days are here again . . . . "

Still use the proper Shoe polish Mandy :-D The tin with the difficult twisty clasp on the side.I have the cream ones too and the stuff you just swipe over to give a shine.
We still use Chris's Dads brushes!!.I rub the polish on with the end of a yellow duster, then give a good old brush with a brush with handle on top. Then a buff up with the duster..It doesn't happen very often lol

The Smoked Haddock thing was a recipe I found in a Sainsbury* mag.Low calorie.
Smoked Haddock.Baby leaf Spinach, half fat cheddar ,some grated parmesan skimmed milk, bit of Dijon Mustard and Macaroni. Not sure Chris is going to be that struck on it but HEY we will see :-D :-D

Yes I am using the Sensodyn* toothpaste and it does help.I put a dab of it on my finger and wipe it over the tooth and gum after I clean my teeth. But it is still a bit sensitive :-S

I have scented candles burning .( I can still smell FISH). :-S

Chris and I have nearly come to blows today over colour of paint for the front porch.
He will be painting that next week .Desert Wind ( I think )...As long as I get the right colour for below the dado rail on the stairs :-D :-S.I need to get on the case as the decorator will be here in a couple of weeks!!!!

Dinner done and all cleared away.Relax time now :-D

Oh William what a roller coaster of a ride you have had with all the things going on.
I'm sure Carmel will enjoy being able to have a bath and a soak with the new Bath lift. Also the ease of getting in and out of bed .I'm sure that will make life easier for you too.
I am glad to hear too that your Daughter is finally on the road to recovery from her Knee trouble. What a time she has had !!!
Things hopefully now will be looking up for you all <3.It seems like you have all had a right bucket full (of you know what over these past months).
I will join you in "Happy days are here again" :-D :-D..I think I know the tune :-D( you should hear me trying it out lol)

Since I put my post on earlier, I've had a text from our 'unofficial' daughter Mel, to say she is going to call in and see us on her way back from Manchester on Saturday. We have known Mel since she was 18 and haven't seen her since she moved to Cambridge some time ago. That news is the icing on the cake :-D

Morning Everybody, Evening Kim.

Sofia off school again, this time she has an ear infection, I looked after Matteo yesterday while Victoria took Sofia to the doctors, she has to take alternative medication Nurofen & Paracetamol throughout the day. and also antibiotics ,

Waiting in today as my new livingroom suite is being delivered, :-D :-D we have cleared the old settee & chair and futon out, goodness me the room looks huge, kids would have a great time running about, but they won't get a chance cos next time their down the new chairs will be in. OH gone to collect my prescription and put it in the chemist, will collect it later or maybe tomorrow,

We have a couple of inches of snow which came on through the night, it's really bright and sunny here, so maybe it will melt the snow.

going to put on the Kettle, time for a coffee, also have a pile of dishes to wash. dishwasher has packed in. we had to order a new one, due to be delivered Thursday. never been happy with this washer , We have had the engineer out three times in the last 2 years, didn't get a choice of make as it came with the fitted kitchen, this time we have bought a better one and only takes 45 mins to wash.

Fiona, my dishwasher (a slimline) takes 30 mins to wash, plus two other available programs that take 50 mins and 70 mins! You can guess which gets the most use !! The shorter prog is brilliant and I'm sure you'll be well pleased with yours. My old dishwasher went on for ages and must have cost a fortune to run! modern ones are so much better. Hope your little one recovers soon.
Good luck with the Dentist Jane, sensitive teeth are a real pain(!!!) so hopefully it can be put right without too much hassle. I go to the Hygienist next week for my three monthly torture session! Not something I look forward to, but what with that and a strict hygiene daily routine, (an awful bore!!) my teeth do seem to have stabilized, at least for the time being. Long term? Who knows!!!
Iffy morning here! might go to the greenhouse and have a mosey round!!

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 3 Mar 2015 10:55

Morning all and evening Kim,

Bright wall to wall sunshine here.

Hope Jane gets on ok at the dentist. I go on the 10th and 11th next week. First ones early as it is another impression and the next one is in the afternoon.

Bet your all excited about the new suite Fiona. Never had a dish washer so I would'nt know how long they wash for but it seem to me you could do it a lot quicker by hand.

I had another bad night last night. Went to bed at 1.30am and was really comfy and nice and warm. Lay there and lay there and nearly went off to sleep but did'nt then got cross with myself so got up for a wee at ten to 4am was still awake just after 5am when oh got up. He said I was snoring a little while after he arose.

Morning all, evening Kim,

Nice to hear from you William, even though not all good news. Things can only get better, so keep your chin up. We are all here to listen to your stories, so don't keep them bottled up !!

I bet Jane is in the chair now, hope all goes well, not the best thing in the world to be doing. Only having a few I don't have your problems.

I tend to wash up in a bowl of soapy water each time. I use the D W but only on the odd Sunday, when I can't be bothered to wash up.

You are going to be "POSH" Fiona, with your new suite. It will have that lovely "NEW SMELL" for a while. Yes, I bet the children would have thought they had an indoor play area, with no furniture in the room. <3 <3 <3

HOME ALONE. Carolyn called about 15 minutes ago, and they are off out. Don't know when they will be home.

We had words this morning. She will collect seed pods from various sources and put them in little pots on the kitchen unit by the plate rack. This morning I knock a load over, and told her to clear them away. With that she threw them all in the bin !!!

I've got the sneezes I have just sneezed about THIRTY TIMES ON THE TROT. My head is swimming now !!

Nice bright sunny morning here, but very cold in the wind. I won't be moving fat today again.

How's the heating Gill,??? Still working I hope.

I still have my shoe brushes from my RAF days the polishing brush has still got my No. on it 5058700. They don't get used much these days as I tend to spay a bit on "PLED#E" on mine and a flick over with a duster.

I hope you all have an enjoyable afternoon, whatever you might be doing.

magpie Report 3 Mar 2015 12:40

I use my dishwasher all the time Frank! It's so much quicker than standing around washing up by hand, which is such a chore, particularly cutlery. Just stack it up, turn it on and walk away! We usually take it in turns to put away, just whoever happens to be there so to speak!
Really windy now, but bright, talked to daughter and son this morning, so not much done in the greenhouse! Son was 10 mins! Daughter over an hour!!!
How's your mouth Jane?!!!!!
