Frank Report 20 Jun 2018 10:38

Good morning to you all,

Lots of blue sky here but very windy. I was in bed 9.30 last night before Ros got home. I was completely shattered. From what she says she enjoyed her evening wing the girls.

I sold get by results within two weeks, so will ring the Dr. then. Mel, I have been taken off the Dentiss books, as I haven't been for such a long time. Th's why I had to pay for the breakage. Conrad tried to supper glue them, but they broke again the first time I used them.

Jane certainly looks pleased with the cottage, it can be so hit and miss, depending on the owners/agents, and the cleaners employed before the hand overs. I did Chatsworth many years ago. I was separated , and had a Sunday free so went to see what it was like. I did have a nice day, and the gardens are a treat too.

Mel, I know what you mean about those trolly's on wheels. Yesterday I filled three bags, plus two cases of beer. When Ros worked in town, she had "A little WILLY" as she called her trolly, for going on the market for the fruit and Veg on a Friday lunchtime. That's the only time it ever got used.

The Beans have been devastated by the slugs/snails. We put a line of PELLETS all along the row, but the little Bs still got to them.Ros has bought a new packet of those beans Mel, so we might try potting them and see if we can get a late cup.

Since having my dicky tummy, I have been the other way for FOUR DAYS, Took some "gunge" this morning so hope things WORK OUT later lol lol(SORRY) !!!

Shower time and a shave, this morning too. Then I will hoover and dust through, before going into the garden. Be good, see you later. xxx

Done loads of ironing this morning and then did lunch.

Its still raining inthe air today and it gets everywhere. Now it has turned rather chilly out there in the heavy breeze. My trousers feel damp too from going round to the chickens.

We have had a squirrel on the bird feeder again and the deer ran through the garden this morning and right across and out the back and jumped over the fence in the corner of the field. It was the young stag.

Gillx

Gillx Report 20 Jun 2018 17:15

Oh I see Mel, mind you like Liz said someone will help you if you ask. We've noticed there hasn't been any squirrels around here for weeks apart from one young one. We're now wondering if someone has killed them, I hope not as we loved having Rosie around for her peanuts :-( I saw the young one in our garden today I called Rosie as I wasn't sure who it was at first but then noticed it wasn't her as it ran off into the back of my border.

You asked about who owns the fence Mel, to be honest I haven't got a clue. The original fence was rotten when we moved in so we took it down, or should I say it fell down and it was never replaced. We had another rotten fence up by the bungalow which we've just taken down as we knew when we took the plants away it would of fell down anyway.

If Mr Grumpy pays half of the cost on Friday like he said he would then we'll put a new fence up all along, but if he doesn't then we'll put the one panel we already have up to make a corner where we've just put up the fence facing the road and then we have some pallets and wood which we'll use to make a fence for between Mr Grumpy and us against the bungalow to stop the postman cutting through.

I still have large plants near there so they will be at the end of that piece of fencing so you don't notice it doesn't go all the way along from that part of the garden, then we'll plant some tall plants in the gap between the two lots of fences. Once the evergreen plants go in you shouldn't notice there isn't a fence in the middle, as we had it like that before. Mr Grumpy won't like it but then it'd be his fault if he doesn't pay his fair share so he can't really complain, not that, that will stop him. We're putting the evergreen plants in planters so we can take them with us should we ever move.

Sorry to hear about your tummy Frank, hope the meds work and you're feeling better soon. Don't over do things if you're not feeling well. Pleased to see Ros had a good night out with the girls.

Have you thought of putting the new beans in the greenhouse that might cut the slug situation down a bit? I have my tomatoes in pots in mine and they are coming on great, some of the flowers are starting to go into tomatoes now. We also have Sandra's strawberries in there to keep them away from the birds, she's had loads this year.

Mind you talking about birds I noticed the other week when I left the greenhouse door open in the hot weather a bird must of got in, thankfully it left the strawberries alone and poked about in my climbing bluebell shrub then it must of stood on my garden chair I have in there and promptly did a poo on the seat, luckily I spotted the mess before I sat on the chair. I've never seen a bird go into a greenhouse before let alone find it's own way out without causing much damage. Thankfully it's not happened again since then.

Anne

Anne Report 20 Jun 2018 19:37

Been hot again today but it's supposed to be getting cooler

Gill the deeds of your house will show who is responsible for the upkeep of the fence. We have one side that we are responsible for on the left, the right side is next doors. I thing Mr Grumpy probably knows which makes me suspect it could be his

Mel have you thought about having your shopping delivered I wouldn't have it any other way, when we go on holiday I do the same but mainly for breakfasts and Ruby's food plus a few other bits as we eat out most of the time.

Frank Glad to hear Ros is going out and meeting up with her friends again, she is doing so well. Sorry to hear your ailments have now gone into reverse. Hope you get back on track shortly,

Gillx

Gillx Report 20 Jun 2018 21:34

We don't have our deeds Anne, the land registry keep them now. I'm not sure when it changed but you no longer have your deeds once the mortgage is paid off. We can have a copy for a small charge if we want one though.

You maybe right about Mr Grumpy knowing the fence is his responsibility, which would explain why he was so quick to agree to paying half for a new fence. I'm still not convinced he's actually going to give us his share though, but like I said we'll see what happens on Friday.

We've had rain here today, but it's suppose to be sunny and dry tomorrow which OH is pleased about as he'd like to finish taking out the last plant roots so we can crack on with the paving by the front door. He's not going to dig the holes for the fence posts yet until he knows the job is going ahead as the ground is very hard to dig so he doesn't want to waste his time if next door changes his mind..

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 20 Jun 2018 21:45

I used to have the shopping delivered when the shop in Holsworthy was Somerfields but then Waitrose took it over and they will deliver but they don't do half the things we like and its so much more expensive than Morrisons. They don't deliver. Its the heavy things that other shops don't sell like oh's brand of cider and I like to chose my meat. Anyway if I did'nt go out on a Tuesday to Bideford I would only see the postman and Em on a Saturday. Don't forget we live behind a 10' plus stone wall and can't see out of the garden at the front and there are tall trees out the back and a field and more trees the other way.

Bunnyboo

Bunnyboo Report 20 Jun 2018 22:26

Gill, I think it's usually the fence on the right that's yours, the left your neighbour. As you say though, you can always get a copy of your deeds if you need to. When we bought this place (no mortgage) 7 years ago, we were given a copy of our deeds through our solicitor, but maybe OH asked for them, I can't remember!!
OH finished pressure washing the back of the bungalow this afternoon, so we can creosote it just as soon as it's dry. OH had a clean bill of health from the Optician, no new glasses needed, and no glaucoma! That's a relief :-)

"BLUE SKY'S SMILING AT ME, NOTHING BUT BLUE SKY'S DO I SEE"

Good morning my lovelies, and what a grand day it is too. Quite a bit of wind, don't know if it's cool or not as I have not been out yet.

Gill we always put our runners in pots in the greenhouse, this year the bu@@ers have got in and had a banquet on them. The birds love to go in there as well, to get the damp soil for their nests. Talk about being spoilt !!!

In our area, your fence is on the left and across the bottom of the garden. It could well be different in other parts of the Country.

I had a email from our Jane this morning. BLANK. I told her to put the wine glass down and to concentrate.

Ros is doing so well, I think I will get her to DIG THE GARDEN (JOKE) <3 <3 <3 She is a little sore but that is to be expected. She is still sleeping, so rest is good for recovery. (That's her story, and she's sticking to it) ;-) ;-) ;-)

Between us we got the Runners in yesterday afternoon, I watered them in well and fed them. The Tomato's are at the top of the greenhouse now and have loads of flowers. They were fed again yesterday. I watered all he flower beds and patio pots, I also did the front garden, without falling A over H. :-( :-( :-(

To answer your question from the other day Mel, YES she is able to knit. and has loads of wool that are in skaines (sp) I have the job of putting them on the back of a chair and winding them into balls. I so remember as a small boy, sitting with my arms out holding the wool while Mum made the balls. Happy memories.

Small white clouds have suddenly appeared from nowhere. and the wind is getting stronger. I hope thats not a bad omen. !!!

Great news for Ian Liz, and no EXPENSE. !!!.

I think I will have a bit of breakfast now, before Ros gets up. Then I can get showered and sort out a load for the washing machine. It will dry in no time if this weather holds.

Have a good day, whatever you might be doing and take care. xxxx See you later.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 21 Jun 2018 10:18

Morning lovely ol Frank and all,

Well today is the longest day so make the most of it. I really can't believe we are nearly through June so six months of the year gone now!!

I have library this morning late but don't know what else I shall be doing today yet. I did start sosem craft yesterday. Going to make some bookmarks with pom poms.

I had to hold the wool for mum while she wound it up in balls, as you say Frank happy memories but at the time I hated having to sit still but rocking my arms side to side as she wound.

Oh is out up the top garden with the digger and chain saw so I expect he is going to cut down a sycamore tree up the top wall as our neighbour asked about it as he said it would let more light in his garden. It won't but we like to keep him happy as its Em's dad and mum who bought oh's bit of the front and had the little calf shed made into a house. Its right near Em's so will be good for when Phil has to live there and not at the big farm anymore.

Bunnyboo Report 21 Jun 2018 10:49

Lovely morning here so I've washed the final pair of curtains in this room! Only our bedroom, and the ones in the passage way to do and they could wait if necessary!!
I can remember holding the wool for knitting, my S-father used to do it as well! so my mother had two willing holders!!
The fences at our old house were left to right too Frank, but that was because the house next door had once been part of our property and the fence was put up by the sellers. It's always best to check to make absolutely certain if you need to!
This evening M is coming, last Sunday it was P who dropped by for a couple of hours! We're feeling quite spoilt!!
Our garden's doing pretty well, especially the spuds! Tomatoes in the Greenhouse are in flower, and everything else is showing and looking good.
OH should get his info from the hospital either today or tomorrow, then we shall get the dates for his scan, and for his radiotherapy sessions. They seem to think it'll be between 11- 12 each day!! It'll be nice to know as we can then plan our days round it! The consultant is very confident that this treatment will knock the cancer on the head and OH will live to fight another day!! So we are positive!!
Must hang those curtains to dry!!

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 21 Jun 2018 11:43

A good day to get the curtains down and washed Liz. Perhaps you could put another lot in today and get those dry too. I may even do mine.

Library soon. Oh has been cutting trees down so the big one can come down but the digger is playing up. Is'nt it always the same when you do osmething fror someone else with your equipment that something happens to it so more EXPENSE!

Gillx

Gillx Report 21 Jun 2018 12:27

Afternoon all

You're in a chirpy mood today Frank, I laughed when you mentioned Jane's blank email and the reply you sent her ;-) :-D We've been lucky this year where slug and snails are concerned, hardly any and none in the greenhouse. Some of the flowers on our toms are now tomatoes so it won't be long before they are big and ripe enough to eat. I picked the last of Sandra's strawberries today which were also in the greenhouse so all the strawberry plants are now outside and the shelving unit they were on has been dismantled and put in the shed ready for next year. I have quite a bit of space in the greenhouse now, it was quite difficult to move around in there before and watering everything was a bit tricky to, now I only have the four tomato plants and the climbing bluebell to water.

Good news for your OH Liz no glasses and of course no expense either. That was quick hearing about his scan, hope all goes well for him when he starts his radiotherapy. It's good to know times of things as like you said you can plan your days around them. Having the same time each day will also make life easier to. Hope the weather holds out for your curtains to dry. We've had rain here and it's quite cloudy so we may have more rain later. The sun is trying to come out but I think there are to many clouds around today.

Did you do your curtains in the end Mel? It sounds like your OH is busy, hope the digger holds out until the job is finished. Does he know what the problem is with it? Yes the longest day of the year today.

OH was up early this morning and took the remaining plant roots out, he took all his equipment around the front and said it took one go with the metal pole and it popped out straight away so he had to put everything away again. He took it down to the tip along with some other rubbish we had and it was all done before 9.30 this morning before the rain started, so not a bad day for him so far.

We were going to put the one fence panel we've got in the front garden today but decided to wait incase Mr Grumpy thinks we're going to pay for it all. I still don't think he'll pay his half but I suppose time will tell and we'll find out tomorrow. We then thought we'd make a start on the paving but the rain started so we've decided not to bother doing any more outside today and catch up with some recordings instead. I think with us doing so much lately we're just not in the mood at the moment. Plus it's not very warm out today and the wind is quite strong, so we'll stay indoors where it's warmer.

I think the F1 is on this weekend so the fencing can wait until next week. I don't think it'll be delivered until Monday anyway if we order it tomorrow or Saturday morning. They're closed on Saturday afternoons and Sunday. We don't mind as there's no rush, plenty of other jobs in the garden we can be getting on with in the meantime, when the weather improves if Mr Grumpy doesn't pay his half.

Going to get a cuppa now. It's quite cold today so I might pop the heating on for a bit to take the chill out of the air.

Gillx

Gillx Report 21 Jun 2018 13:28

Mr Grumpy's just been around with his half of the money, a whole day early. I really didn't think he'd pay his share, so that was a nice surprise. OH has just gone to order the fence panels and posts so hopefully they'll be delivered tomorrow and if the weather is kind to us we can make a start. We're hoping everything will be delivered in the morning so we're not hanging around waiting. I'm so pleased we can crack on with the job as it looks awful being open the way it is and very bare. I can't wait to design our new front garden and see what plants we can find in the garden centre :-)
I think our luck is finally changing and the rest of year will be better than the beginning. I hope so anyway.

Frank

Frank Report 21 Jun 2018 14:41

Good afternoon to you all,

I Got th washing out of the machine, bedding plus other whites. Went to take the basket to the line, and did my USUAL TRIP down the lawn with a basket of wet washing. Fortunately I managed to drop the basket FLAT on the lawn. Pegged it out, not as MADAM would have, but pegged out, all dried and folded ready to be sorted and put away. Bath towels all washed as well. They went in the tumble dryer and they have beed put away.

Ros is sitting on her little seat in the greenhouse, cutting back all the leaves, so the sun can get to the tomato's. We have a couple of bunches ready to ripen and loads of flowers on the others.

Minted lamb steaks tonight ,with new potato's and ratatouille. I prepared it all earlier so only the pots to boil, and meat to cook. Ratatouille with only take minutes to warm through.

Pam called round to ask if Ros would like her to pick her a punnet of Strawberries, as they were going to get some for themselves. I wondered what her answer would be. ??? But then again "IS THE POPE A CATHOLIC" lol lol.

Good that MR GRUMPY has coughed up the cash for his part of the fence. How old is he Gill ?? It would be nice if he was able to give OH a hand to do it.

Sods Law Mel, if ever you do a good turn, it ends up costing you money. ;-) ;-) Does OH know what's wrong with the digger ??

Just the weather get the curtains dry Liz, Hark at old Mother Frank going on. I have never washed a curtain in my life. :-) :-)

Forgot to mentioned. I went round the front to water yesterday. On the door step was a BIG BOX. it was a flower display from M & S in a bag of water. Roses and fuchsia's from Conrad and Jan, wishing Ros a speedy recovery. To say the least she was over the moon <3 <3 <3 <3. At least it was another Vase to be found. !!!

I can't believe that I had TWO BANANA'S at lunchtime. I never eat fruit. !!! Ros's mouth dropped open :-0 :-0 :-0

Still a nice warm afternoon. I might go and sit in my lounger with my book for an hour.

Ros is at Choir tonight. So Valerie will have to come and pick her up, what a change that will be. :-) :-)

OH's schedule has arrived! treatment starts 16th July - 11th September! First session is the CT scan at 8.30!! After that its between 11 and 12 midday, 5 days a week!! Anyway we shall be well clear in time for our trip which is booked for 28th September-4th October!
OH has finally finished the creosoting, and it does look good!
Oh dear Mel, I hope your OH can fix the digger, else as you say, more expense!
Good news with your neighbour, it'll be nice to get the fencing fixed!
Glad all is well with you Frank, and that your patient progresses well
Curtains are dry so must get OH to put them back up again for me.

Gillx

Gillx Report 21 Jun 2018 15:49

Pleased to see your OH's treatment will be finished in time for you going away Liz, it's all worked out perfectly for your both hasn't it?

Hope you didn't hurt yourself when you tripped Frank. You have been busy today by the sounds of it. Watch you don't over do things though or you'll be no help to Ros. I was wondering weather to cut our leaves off the tomatoes to give the toms a bit more light, but when I did that last year they ended up with tomato blight so I don't know whether to do it this year or not. I have taken lots of strawberry plants out of the greenhouse today as they were finished so there is more light in there now. Might wait and see what happens over the next few days and then see if any leave need cutting out. How nice for Ros receiving the flowers off Conrad and Jan, such a lovely thoughtful couple.

I don't know how old Mr Grumpy is but would say he was maybe in his late 70's, he can hardly walk so would be of no help to OH, not that he would of offered even if he could do it, so I'll help him. Sandra and I put up the six foot fence in the back garden two years ago when OH was in work, so I should be of some help to OH with the front fence. The materials aren't arriving until tomorrow afternoon/evening so we'll probably sort the levels and start digging the holes for the posts until the materials arrive. We have one fence and post so if the holes are done we can always make a start on that panel while we wait for the rest of them to arrive. The sun has come out now but it's still very windy and not very warm, I hope the weather improves tomorrow with less wind, otherwise the concrete post mix will blow everywhere when we try to put it in the hole.

OH is watering the pots for me now as we don't think there was enough rain this morning to water them properly. Sandra wants me to put one of her programmes on that I recorded, so I'd better go.

MillymollyAmanda Report 21 Jun 2018 18:36

Evening all,

Not quite so hot here today but we've still had plenty of sun .

Gill i'm glad the old devil has paid up now you'll be to get on with the fence and get your garden sorted ,there's talk of high temperatures next week so you won't want to be out in the heat .

Liz that's good you now have the dates and know the times of OH's treatment ,that's quite a few weeks he has to go to the hospital i hope you can get some sort of refunds on parking ,if your hospital charges are any thing like ours which have now gone up it will cost you a fortune ,it's good it doesn't coincide with your trip away .

Oh Frank not another tumble ,i hope it hasn't left you to bruised ,look after yourself .
You carn't beat English strawberries ,they taste so much better than those from abroad and they smell good too.

Hope your OH has managed to fix his digger Mel ,things always seem to go wrong when your doing some thing for other people .
Colin stopped lending out his tools to other people as some times they would come back and when he went to use them they had had it , after all his tools were his livelihood.

We have sticked our runners today ,some of our runner beans never came up but luckily my sister had some left over so we had a few from her .
She also gave me some Cucamelon plants that she grew from seed so i'm giving them a try ,they look like little Watermelons but they taste like Cucumbers with a hint of Lime .
We've had to prop up the old white rose in the front garden as it was hanging down so much with all the weight of the flowers i wouldn't like to count the flowers on it there's loads and loads .

Lacey's birthday next week so we went and bought her a new scouter most have those tiny wheels but this one had bigger wheels bit like the scouter i use to have .

Frank i use to have to hold the skeins of wool while mum wound it into a ball ,after a while it made your arms ache .

Nice to see Jane popping in that was a surprise and some nice photo's from her too.

No I did'nt get my curtains washed or anything else washed today and its been really lovely here today with plenty of sunshine and its been warm too. There has been quite a strong wind today. I have repotted my two tom plants and put them in one of those plastic tomatoe houses. Monty said you can't grow toms outside now because of the blight so I am hoping it won't blow away. Iv'e got it against the bantam house on the end and bricks and stones in the bottom of the plastic cover. They were in the shed but getting very leggy. One has two trustes of toms on already.

I grew the Cueamelons the year before last but did'nt think much of them. They were only the size of a teaspoon.

Toasted cheese sandwiches for us tonight as I have been in the garden.

Frank I hope you hav'nt hurt yourself taking another tumble like that. You must be more carefull now you are looking after Ros. I wondered if Ros would like some pom poms to sew on the muffs she is making? If she would like some I will send some I am not using. I have them all over the place where they hav'nt been fat enough for what I want. I also have a few lavender bags that mum made years ago. They still smell nice and could be sewn on the muffs too. Let me know if she wants them.

Good old Mr Grumpy came up trumps for you then Gill. I bet that was a nice surprize to get the money early too. Now you can get on with the front garden whilst the weather is good.

Liz I am pleased Ian has his dates and it will all be over by the time you go away. At least you can relax now knowing when he has to go.

Morning all,

Another lovely morning here in Devon. Whats it like with you lot?

Nothing to report this morning but I desperately need to fill up the bird feeders as they are all empty. Yesterday I had a baby Blue Tit on the peanut feeder who hung on for about half an hour. There were a few peanuts in the bottom of the feeder then. The day before there was a parent with it and baby was hanging on the feeder and the parent was pecking at the nuts and feeding baby so I expect it was that one and now taught feeds itself.
