Evening all,

What a scorcher it's been today ,little ones were straight in the pool tonight it was lovely and warm 29 degrees :-D
Last night after having a play in the pool we all had some chips from the chippy, the little ones sat on their towels on the patio like a picnic and thought it was great fun eating them from the paper ,i must say they did taste good with lots of salt and vinegar and some bread and butter .
Our car failed the MOT today it was only a spring that had fractured so we should have it back tomorrow ,i must say it does feel strange with no vehicle as we always had the van to fall back on .

I see you've been falling about again Frank i hope your ok
That's good you have Barry to help in the garden although i see naughty Ros is still trying to do a bit ,it's the lovely weather tempting her out :-D

Like Liz i put Max in his crate too ,he goes out and lays in the sun and then he finds the shade ,when the children come for the swim i use the crate as he just goes loopy loo and he doesn't know when to calm down and with this heat it's not good for him .
We bought a new BBQ from Morrisons as they were selling them half price ,son came to put ours together for us and decided to get one too .

Lovely photo of Larry cooling down Jane :-D :-D
We like those chickens you cook in the bag i shall have to get to Tesco's and get a couple .

I have quite a few Cucumbers forming they are about an inch and a half long and i can see a few tiny toms too, they were flagging a bit today even with the door open so i sloshed a good lot of water over the whole lot of them to cool them down .

Nice to know you got Barry to come and clear the bed and you were pleased with his work. I wonder what happened with the screws out of the gate hinge Frank?

Mandy children always like it when you do something different don't they. I bet they had a whale of a time sitting on their towels eating their chips. Did you all go in the pool?

Larry looks nice and cool in the garden Jane but oh said will he be pleased it is now all over the web?

Off to bed now. it looks like a full moon out there.
I don't think anyone will recognise Larry Mel :-D :-D He wouldn't mind anyway :-D :-D

Night Night everyone

Love the photo Jane! Yes you need one of those!! the pool, not the chap!!
Mandy, your description of the picnic round the pool so reminds me of when my parents had a pool and we used to go over at weekend's to swim. My mother used to cook sausages, put them into rolls and we'd have those along with the odd glass of wine!! Happy days! You had the sea of course Jane, extra happy days: :-D :-D :-D

Gillx Report 27 Jun 2018 23:10

Just been watching the bats with Sandra, she was about to come in when I spotted them so she stayed outside and thoroughly enjoyed watching them.

Yes a full moon Jane, there is suppose to be a strawberry moon tomorrow night but I think it'll be more visible in Australia or so I've heard so it'll probably just look it's normal colour on this side of the earth. I'll still take a look though.
Love the photo of Larry, he has the right idea putting his feet in the pool and making sure the back of his neck and head are covered, plus his legs, the last thing he needs is sunburn. I caught the sun with working outside for long hours and now the skin is peeling on the bridge of my nose, each morning I wake up with a blob of blood on one side of my nose. I must of scratched it on something in the garden and with the sun as well it must of gone to a sore. My skin is so dark with the sun I can't see exactly where it is. Hopefully it'll heal soon.

So the little ones have had a great time eating their chips out of the paper outside by the pool. I was thinking of your pool today Mandy and said to OH how I wish we had one as big as yours, it would be lovely to have a dip to keep us cool. I had to drape a towel over my kitchen window this evening to try and keep the sun out. I hooked it over the two small windows at the top and closed the window to hold it in place. I then opened the back door once the sun was going down and it had gone a bit cooler. I think tomorrow I'll put the towel up again but a lot earlier, before the sun heats the room.

I wonder what happened to the screws in your gate Frank, do you think someone's taken them out? It's a puzzle isn't it? Pleased to hear Barry has made a start on your garden, it'll save you and Ros most of the hard work, I doubt it'll stop Ros doing her bit though and I'm sure she'll be out there in the morning putting in all her new plants. We're not doing anything in the garden while the weather is so hot, apart from watering. OH isn't even cutting the grass as he said it might go brown with the sun, so he's leaving it until it cools down a bit. It's quite a large lawn in the back and walking up and down in the sun isn't a good idea for him as it's in full sun most of the time.

OH rang for his monitor results today and he said they were normal. I'm not sure what that means as surely if it was normal then why would he of needed the monitor in the first place? Maybe they mean it's not dangerously high. OH doesn't like me to worry so is probably not telling me the full story, but he hasn't said he needs any meds so I'll try not to worry about it.

Going to get something to eat now it's cooled down a bit. I've got a migraine and can't wait for the weather to cool down. We still haven't done the kitchen drawers as that room is far to hot to work in at the moment. All I'm doing is sitting by the fan, it's to hot to do much else, so no big jobs are being done for the time being. It's giving me the chance to catch up with all my recordings and it won't do us any harm to have a few days off, the jobs aren't going anywhere.

Gill, I expect your OH's BP was spiked because of all the stress that he was under. You said that things are easier for you all now, so I expect his BP has settled down again. Do try not to worry as your GP will know what's what! Why don't you get yourselves a BP monitor? You can buy them quite cheaply in any Chemist or on line, then you can check your BP at home at your leisure. I've got one, so has M as his BP tends to be a bit high and needs keeping an eye on!
Cloudy old morning here :-( Hope the sun appears later, mind you we're off out after breakfast so by the time we get back it may have cleared and we can get the chairs out!! :-D

Good morning Liz, and all you lazy people !!!

I was up at 6.30 made COT and opened the doors and windows. Which I shut soon after as that breeze was quite chilly. I'm sure ut will burn off soon, and start to heat up again.

I have been thinking about the gate saga . I will check the green bin for silver/grey paint, if it's on the bin anywhere I would think Barry did it when he put the bin back, but where did the screws go ??? I will ring him today to ask him anyway. He's the sort of guy, that if he did it he would have mentioned it. The "Green Thumb" lad was to thin and weak looking, to have done any damage. lol lol.

Chip butties, what a treat that was. When in the RAF. whenever we had chips we always ended the meal with a "CHIP BUTTIE" It just filled that little spot ;-) ;-) ;-) I bet the children really enjoyed themselves xxx

I haven't had our BBQ out this year. Ut's up against the fence, covered up, with various pay pots blocking it in. As there is only the two of us, it's unlikely to get used this year, unless Harvey and the family come up.

It's Simons Birthday on the 19th July (53) Makes me feel old. I think Sally said he liked the shirt that we bought him for Christmas, and wears it all the time, so it might be Ros will get another like it.

Ros is doing so well with her recovery. She rests quite a lot, but has sitting doing nothing as her bottom gets very sore. She is covering herself in cream with an old handkerchief of mine to make her comfortable.

I think I will get some breakfast and another COT. Ros is up now, so will get her a COT as well.

STAY COOL !!!

Morning all,

Another beautiful day here and we have a little breeze. If its as hot as yesterday today I shall be staying indoors.

Di said she may pop in today but I hav'nt had a message from her yet to say if she will or won't.

Oh has just gone up to see if its bin day today or not. We now have three bags to go when they do come. Since the change over to a fortnightly collection we hav'nt had them come round. We only have about a bag a week but this week there's not much in it so oh has gone to look and see if any others have their bags out. Its quite a trek up to the road so he goes up on the mower.

Must feed my toms todays and make sure the strawberries are watered as they dry out so quickly. The poor old lawns are becoming brown where the old paths were across the garden and all oh's hard work to get them nice and green and looking good has gone out of the window.

The beans are growing like mad now and thats something else I MUST water and wind around the wire frame.

Morning all,

Lovely here again ,Colin has just gone to get the car as it's ready , just got to get the tax for the year and hopefully that will be all the expense done.

Yes the children did enjoy the chips round thd pool ,it was a bit of a spur of the moment thing really ,i think thats why we all enjoyed them.

That a puzzle about your gate Frank ,you would have thought the screws would have been laying about on the ground ,you don't think some one has had a go at trying to get in ?

Not a lot happening here today ,i keep eyeing up the ironing pile but there's nothing in the pile we need so i think it can all wait .

Coffee when Colin gets back and a nice relax in the shade outside.

Afternoon all,

All the bedding and whites washed and dried in this lovely sunshine. Ros will help me make the bed later.

I have been reading my book in the shade of a big bush, Ros is planting up the new flower bed with what she bought yesterday. I will give them a good watering this evening when I water everywhere else.

No Mandy, I don't think anyone has tried getting in. I opened the gate yesterday morning for the lawn treatment . Both Green Thumb and Barry used the side gate. It was only whenI went to water last night, that I found it broken. The trouble is it's to heavy for me to handle. I have wedged the gate in the closed position, so it will look as though it's shut.

Liver, Onions, peas and mash for dinner tonight. I have got everything ready, it will just need cooking.

Ros it at Choir tonight. So I will settle down to watch England's game with a few cold beers, I can cheer or complain as much as I like, with nobody to tell me to be quiet. lol lol. ;-) ;-) ;-) Which she would if she was here. !!! I am a little annoyed with Tony, he goes out every night in his car to watch the football, and NOT ONCE has he asked if I would like to go with him. Knowing Ros can't drive, I would have thought he would have offered. :-P :-P.

Theres match starting on BBC two at 3.99 pm, so I will leave you to enjoy the rest of your day. xxx

Di's been and we have had lunch and now I have to go to Hosworthy t get more chicken food.

We have tried to order some more paint for the bungalow as the side by the back door definately needs andother coat as he watered that lot down!!!!! B & Q hav'nt got our colour on home delivery now so they must be out of stock and we want another colour for the base other than black. we have chosen a soft green which I think will go nice with the buttermilk.

Afternoon All well Evening really :-D I didn't realise it is 6 already.I will have the football on but will probably keep popping in and out to watch.I hope it is a good one and that we beat Belgium.
Frank, that Tony sounds incapable of thinking of anyone else other than himself. He knows how much you like to go to the pub and see the Footie. One day he will maybe want help or a lift and will no doubt call on you then!!!.

Gill I bet the Bats will be out and about tonight again for Sandra to see.I think it is just the right weather wit hlots of juicy insects flying about for them to catch :-D

Mmm! Chips by the pool .. Lovely Mandy :-D :-D. An impromptu kind of picnic :-DThe children will be wanting that again .I bet the chips tasted so good too.

I think a soft Green sounds a perfect colour Mel to go with Buttermilk. It should look lovely. Hopefully you won't have ot wait too long before you get the paint.

How are Max and Ruby coping with the hot weather? Thomas is flaked out on the patio and catching a bit of breeze Even our Postie said he was struggling today and he loves the hot weather.

Got the Beers out of the fridge yet Frank? :-D :-D Just think with Ros out you can cheer or swear as loud as you want to :-D :-D :-D

Evening all

Lovely and sunny again today, I think it's a bit cooler than yesterday, well this morning anyway.

I've been so busy today, first of all I watered the toms in the greenhouse then put a line of washing out, then spent almost the whole day in the kitchen making a chilli, two Victoria sponges (one has been eaten already lol) 84 sausage rolls and a quiche, I then fell asleep for a couple of hours. When I woke up I noticed OH and Sandra had fell asleep too.

OH will be watching the England match to Frank, then he said he'll water all my pots plants for me once it's gone a bit cooler as it went really hot this afternoon. Have you found out what happened to your gate yet? How did Ros get on with the flower bed, I bet it looks lovely now?

Thanks for your advice about the BP monitor Liz, the only thing is I don't know anything about BP so wouldn't know how to read it. I'm not so worried now as like you said the doctor would of given him some meds if he thought there was a problem. This year seems to have got better at it's gone on so hardly any stress, OH would of felt stressed with his brother passing away and then we were all ill for a while with one and thing and another, so I don't suppose that would of helped. I'm just pleased things are calming down a bit now, so if the doctor isn't worry about OH then I won't worry either.

Soft green sounds nice Mel and like Jane said it'll go nice with the Buttermilk colour. We changed the colour of our brickwork at the bottom from black to a reddish brown a few weeks ago and it looks much better. I know what you mean about your lawn, ours is patchy and needs a good watering, OH said he'll do it later when he waters the pots. We think the sun is reflecting off the windows and the greenhouse as it only seems to be in a few places.

Pleased to see your car has passed it's MOT now Mandy, just the tax to go then, like you said, all the expense will be out of the way.

OH has had to nip out and the England match has just started, I hope they don't score before he gets back.

Jane

Jane Report 28 Jun 2018 19:56

Gill you will be able to relax now knowing OH's BP is fine. We have a BP thingy here which is one Chris had whe nhe was working .The only time it has been used is after I have been for an appointment at the hosptial and my BP has goen sky high . But once home and checked it has been back to normal. It might be a handy thing for you to have as Liz said.

Mel is there no way you can find out exactly when you bins will be emptied? We still have weekly collections. One week is the Black bin (household rubbish ) and the following week is the recycling bins.I hope they don't change our collections to fortnightly. We always seem to have so much :-S

Did I say I have got a new washing up bowl for the kitchen sink? It's brilliant .It has a plug thing in the bottom so the water can just be drained out without having to lift and empty a full bowl of water and splashing everywhere. All food bits are caught before going down the sink plughole.I think it is an ingenious design , and it is raised at the bottom so the underneath of the bowl won't get all greasy and mucky :-D. How daft to be so pleased with a washing up bowl LOL
I will send a pic if you want to see it.

Gillx

Gillx Report 28 Jun 2018 21:13

Yes Jane, I can relax more now I know OH is okay, it was a worry though especially when he was making the new fence and fitting it, having to dig all the holes for the posts was hard going for him and the weather didn't help. At least it all finished now so he can relax and do some smaller jobs for a while. We'll go back to sorting the front garden out once the weather cools down. Your bowl sounds great, I'd love to see a pic as I might get one myself. The idea of not having the underneath greasy sounds good as that is the bit I really don't like....yuk. Where did you get it from? I did laugh when you said how daft it was being so pleased with a washing up bowl....you need to get out more LOL.

Was the air blue at yours Frank with England losing? To be fair our goalkeeper tried his best to save that goal, but it wasn't to be. One nil isn't to bad I suppose. OH has decided to cut the back lawn before he waters it as there is no sun on it at the moment, he will water the pots in the morning as they're not to bad.

Going to watch a recording with Sandra now before the bats come back out, she likes watching them and got all excited last night when one of them flew quite close over her dad.

See you all tomorrow
Night Night

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 28 Jun 2018 21:26

Yes I would like to see that Jane please.

I went to get the chickens food and when I came back we had one of the big chickens round by the back door. I called her to go in and there was another one out too. I don't know where they get out. I thought I had covered up all the places where they could have got out.

It was very hot again today and the breeze had changed direction and was coming more from the south so it was'nt blowing through the bungalow today. Its cooled down nicely now and is really quite comfortable now.

We've had such a lovely day out, odds and bobs this morning with a pub lunch by the river which was just the ticket!!
Our bins are once a fortnight, the blue one and black box one week, green the next. I just put them in alternate positions each week then you know which one is due. We don't have a garden waste bin as we have a compost heap, and a bonfire, and of course the incinerator!
Gill, OH and I have done masses of research on the NHS site for information about his prostate cancer. It has been, and is invaluable in helping us make an informed decision as to what to ask his oncologist and what action to take regarding his treatment. It's so easy these days to get relevant info about anything and everything, unlike years ago when I first developed HBP (before the internet,) when it meant a trip to the library!!! So if you feel worried about your OH it's really worth while having a look.
Nothing planned for tomorrow - garden I expect!

Gillx Report 29 Jun 2018 09:02

Morning all

Am I the first one on here today?

Another sunny day, but this heat is starting to get me down now. I'm getting so hot at night I'm not sleeping properly and I get up feeling sick with a headache, not a good start to the day. Luckily our back patio is quite cool in the mornings so I sit out there with a cuppa until I've cooled down.

Thanks Liz for your advice, I'll take a look and see what I can find out. It sounds like you had a lovely day yesterday with your pub lunch by the river.

We have two bins that are emptied alternately, one week it's the general waste bin (green) then the following week it's the recycling bin (grey) If we paid for the garden waste to be emptied, which we don't, that would go out the day after the recycling bin (every fortnight) Sometimes we forget which bin it is, but just take a look in the street at what everyone else is putting out and hope they have got it right LOL.

Nothing planned for today although we were thinking of sorting out the kitchen drawers. I need to work out all the measurements for where the screws go and to be honest I haven't got a clue where to start as the new drawer fronts are bigger than the old ones (higher). I'm sure one day I'll feel like working it out and it'll be done and dusted. Although it looks odd at the moment we can use the drawers so there's no rush. The kitchen is the hottest room in the bungalow so rather than stand in there trying to work things out I'll wait until it's a bit cooler.

OH watered all my pots last night as well as cutting the back lawn and watering that, I watered the plants in the greenhouse so they are all still damp and don't need a further watering this morning. OH watered the brown patch on the back lawn again today before the sun hits it. He agrees with me and thinks it's going brown because of the greenhouse so all we can do is keep it damp and hope for the best. He has decided to cut the front lawn and water that at about 8.30 tonight when the sun has gone around the back, as it didn't do the back lawn any harm and this way the hot sun isn't on it for a few hours.

Does anyone know how long this heatwave is going to last, it's keeping us from working in the front garden and we really need to be getting on with it? I don't mind the sun, but this heat is something else.
